wanna get this for my brother eventually, but want to see how well it will run on his system, and if giving him my CH Throt/Stick would be better than KB/Mouse.

If you have a copy of the game, can you not install it on his system to try it there? I think there'll be a confirmation code emailed to you to make sure your account isn't/wasn't hacked, but that's it..

I dont have it, downloaded the demo and he confirmed its a PITA trying to fly with KB/Mouse.

We'll hookup my CH stick/throttle and see how that goes, hopefully its part of a sale soon, but I.doubt it.

I've heard that some people have good success using XB360 controller, might be worth trying that with the demo.

KB/M is doable but you need to set it just right. I played on my laptop during the beta when I was bored but joysticks are definitely better.

I use KB/M and it's ok for docking/travelling but for combat,no. That's why I don't fight unless I have to. If you have some set-up tips Peally,I'm all ears yep

My whole reasoning in forces CH onto him is to aid in my push to get him into DCS....

Doable, not ideal biggrin

Combat sucks against anything other than bigger AI (gimballed weapons help), but I don't think trading and exploring is too bad. I had to sit and fiddle with the controls until it was intuitive enough to play.

My son plays it okay with KB/Mouse. KB alone is a nightmare but with KB/Mouse, it is do-able. Still prefer full HOTAS + rudders smile

For fighting, gimballed weapons are a god-send. Even with HOTAS+rudders.

I wonder if I buy it on my brother's steam account, if it will install on my PC as well (as we share libraries).

and allow both of us to play at the same time, lol.

If I understood it correctly, even the Steam version still uses the ED launcher, so I doubt it.

Yeah I loaded the demo up on my rig w/ 7.1 audio abd 3 screen eyefinity abd TM Warthog profile (modded the trust axis)

Completely different experience.

He's just worried about endgame and after, or repetitive grinding..

Grinding just depends on what you want to do, really. If you just want to pew-pew, a Cobra is very versatile and in the scheme of things, quite cheap.

I only grind because I want a stable of ships, a Python, a Cobra, a Vulture, maybe a Fer-de-Lance, hopefully all on A-class modules. That means lots and lots and lots of credits. Hence the trading grind.

It is what you make of it.

Yup,

I had to trade grind to get my Asp.

Now I`m out in the dark exploring, haven`t seen another ship in 14 days. And I`m happy. Coming home from work, I fire up ED and go exploring an hour or two. After scanning another 50 or so systems, I`ll go back to inhabited space to sell my data and upgrade my ship.

After that, I plan to go even further into the dark.

For some this may sound boring, for me, it is a dream coming true, owning a space-ship and going where ever I want.

Yup,

one day owning an Anaconda would be cool. but for now, I love my Asp.

No need to grind anymore.

No idea about the Star Trek online thing, although what I am doing now is indeed grinding.

I go between two stations trading Product A and Product B, and do it for hours on end. I think that is the very definition of grinding. However, I do this out of conscious choice. With my Python, I can swap out some cargo racks and put in a shield generator and I can go out and do some bounty hunting if I feel like it. Or mount up some scanners and go exploring. However, my gaming time is limited and my goal is as much credits-per-hour as I can so trade grinding is the way to go with that goal.

Just this evening, I have achieved my goal of getting a functional Type-9. I say "functional" because I purchased one a few days ago but had no money for decent upgrades so I had to go back to the Python for a while longer. Now, my Type-9 has decent cargo space and just-enough jump range so it is "functional." Next step is to grind out more credits to upgrade the Type-9 to the best it can be.

The grinding inSTO is insane and they divide it among several things,

So an entire weekend of grinding for the same thing yields less than 1% Of needed to complete the task...

Just gotta get my brother steady in the demo with CH gear, as Im not givin him my Thrustmaster Warthog, lol

I don't think it's that bad, an afternoon or two of a lucrative trade route using a good transport will net you enough to buy a new ship.
