I just bought a new motherboard/processor and an SSD to boot windows from. The SSD instructions are very thin - just pictures of plugging it in.

Anyway, it shows putting in the SSD install disk before installing the SSD. But there's no OS yet...so will that disk do me any good? Should I just plug it in, set my BIOS SATA mode to AHCI and then put in the Windows install disk? I'm a little unsure of the order in which I should do things. I have replaced parts before but never built a whole system.

Hopefully the SSD disk will include a migration feature that will pull your OS off the HDD and onto the SSD. My Samsung has this and it worked great. There may be an option to choose which folders besides the OS you want to migrate.

Oh, I get it DOH.

If it is a new system then you need to start with the OS disk and let that load onto the SSD.

The SSD disk will have maintenance and tuning software on it for the SSD and you can install that later.
