IL-2 Cliffs of Dover was one of my most long awaited, and anticipated flight Sims, but when it was released it became one of my biggest disappointments. It didn't fit into IL-2 1946 as I hoped, and it was abandoned, instead of becoming a part of a new series like the 1946 franchise. It was broken, and never fixed right, and I gave it a pass. Team Fusion changed that, and has made this (CLOD) one of the best looking flight Sims out there (IMHO). I hope they continue to improve it, and there still is a life for this Sim. RoF & BoS are great sims, but CoD is still a very likable sim.

I've had the game for a while, but hadn't put the time and effort into it to learn how to fly again. I played IL2 1946 and played servers that allowed no cockpit and externals. I've been trying to learn CLOD lately, using full switch realism. Damn it's hard. I have finally learned to keep the spit in the air, with speed, and without burning up the engine. I went online the other day and flew for a while, lost mostly. I only had one encounter, who managed to put a few in me, but he got ran off by some friendlys after I drug him to the deck.

I do have two questions for anyone willing to help. first, why does the plane move before the engine is even on? It's like I spawn into a wind storm every time. Second, is the heading indicator set correctly upon spawning into the game, or do I have to set that every time?

The game has a problem with interaction of wind and planes on ground, why the plane drift before start the engine.

A 3 m/s wind turn the plane face the wind, a 9 m/s prevents open the Bf 109 cockpit pointed for eh wind...

In Spit, Hurri and Blenheim is need adjust the Directional Gyro with the Magnetic Compass reading at mission start* and after make G maneuvers.

* In air start - single player - the Directional Gyro is automatically set with Compass.

Problems: is not modeled the "Lubber Line" (reference line) in P-8 compass to read/set the heading, so is need use the digital info on "Info Windows" - see in the link.

Is not possible (at least in simple way) make a shortcut to camera focus on compass, is need use cockpit 6DOF with mouse - press F10, then press mouse middle and right buttons, move mouse - or use TrackIR.

Thanks for the reply Sokol1. With all the great things about this sim, the wind interaction on the ground is ridiculous. Dang plane blows around on the ground like a plastic bag. With some wind, trying to set a compass on the ground is a bit of a challenge.

To immobilize planes use the "Signalize Ground Crew to Insert or Remove Chocks" - is need assign a key, in Controls > Keys > Aircraft (near end of list).
