I've quit three times so far, I've been thinking about quitting for good lately. I'll be 34 on New Years I have a four year old daughter and its really just a nasty habit. Save that money I spend on smoking for a new PC is what I figure, thats a much healthier habit.
Good for you on quitting its a tough habit to kick and the health benefits are huge not to mention the money saved. Hope you stay on the wagon and win the fight.

Yeah really! lol In Florida a pack of cigarettes will run you at least $6.00 and that's very cheap compared to some other States.

I remember in '85 a carton of Marlboros (IIRC) was around $15.00.
I was only a casual closet smoker (~pack or two a week, also cigars and pot), but the wife (girlfriend then) didn't care much for any of it (her brother was a heavy smoker, probably helped finish off her father in his early 30's). I was more interested in making out than being stoned or smelling bad to her, so I stopped at 17 before it became a real problem. Replaced by overeating and occasional heavy drinking, all history now, at mid-life I worry about health and mortality.
Good luck to those of you quitting, my father was a serious chain smoker who quit (also an alcoholic), many friends and family have tried, some successfully over long periods now.
I quit cold turkey after smoking for about 15 yrs found it tough but stick at it and it gets better and easier though.spent a day driving a different machine at work and its regular driver smokes up a storm in there every day had to drive it with both doors open ,air con off lucky it wasn't to dusty that day and found the addiction that is tobacco wants to drag you back if you let it ,found myself rolling a ciggi at smoko time didn't light up and gave it to a smoker whose tobacco it was disturbing to find it still has those hooks in me.i havnt picked it back up but that monkey is there and I hate that.so stick to not smoking you will not regret it and neither will your body especially as you get older .
Congrats! Took me a couple of tries but I was able to kick it with the gum and then phased that out too. Been smoke-free for 4 yes now. Still very occasionally have a craving but it's easy to ignore now.

Can`t stand the smell of it anymore, we avoid any smokers no matter where we go.
I find if I go into a situation knowing there is smoking going on I am fine but if someone walks up on me unexpected I just about blow my cookies. Having said that I try to avoid situations that require me to end up in a smoking environment.
I quit for a while after ten years of smoking and then starated again when things were getting stressful in my life. So when I decided enough was enough, I took up vaping instead and that worked brilliantly (you have to buy a proper apparatus, not the gas station e-cigs like Blu's and such). I even started mixing up my own 'juice' so that I could control the nicotine level more precisely (but they do sell a wide variety of clearly labeled concentrations). That made quitting easy. The gum and patches never worked, it just wasn't the same, but vaping did. Once you get it down to a pretty low dose, which you can do quickly, it's much easier to stop vaping than to stop smoking. You can even keep the vaping stuff around for a few months in case you get a really strong craving because it's a lot better to take a puff on that than it is to go out and buy a pack of cigarettes.
The whole process really was totally painless, easy and stress free (not to mention cheap).
I tried patches for awhile side effects of having a red round rash on my arm lol. They work just my body doesn't like them.
Tried cold turkey for like 4 hours and started smoking again lol.
Used gum this time. Spearmint was really strong so it killed the 'pepper' taste that indicates the nicotine is being released i assume. So i kept on chewing on it for a couple of hours. Start feeling nauseous and spit it out. Wanted to quit bad enough so i kept on with the gum. After getting tired of feeling queasy all the time i threw the second box of gum away. (Was given two boxes of Nicorette from work)
Now i'm cold turkey. Think about occasionally of smoking 'just one' but i know what it will lead to.
