A double standard is when different rules are applied to two different entities in the same situation. The situation you described is one company offereing to HELP OTHER PEOPLE makes stuff for free which the company makes no direct money from. ED is asking people to WORK FOR FREE so they can potentially make a ton of money in a new market.

Do I personally see where Sobek was personally slighted for his localization? nope. Do I understand why he's being defensive? Totally. There is a sustained strain of ire towards ED here. You cannot have a thread that discusses a communique from the company without it escalating to excrement tossing adventure in a span of 10 posts or less. Someone is always waiting in the wings with a bone to pick. Sobek, Skate and the bunch, as closest representation of that institution, are a convenient (and constant) target of that ire.

Do I always agree with what they say or how the respond? Again, nope. But at this point I can't help but sympathize with them. I'm not even the target of any of the crap they take, and I'm constantly frustrated with the persistently acidic attitude that seems to have descended on this forum since last summer.

In any event, you did raise some cogent points earlier: People with the skills to do translations have come forward before and offered to help, and ED is letting them. Perhaps I was too quick to condemn this on ED's part.

And I think there is a bit of a cross comparison to modding; just as 3d modelers and programmers use their skills and free time to enhance the game, those who know both languages can opt to help as well. Yes, mods aren't included in what ED sells to consumers, but is it really that big a deal if a translated PDF is tossed in with a module versus making someone download it from the files section of the site?
