Have been thinking of picking this up lately and was wondering what my fellow SHQers think of the current state of the game. From what I hear the devs have fixed a lot of the launch issues and its fun playable experience now but I wanted to hear from you guys first. If it still needs some work maybe I'll wait a few more months to pick it up on another steam sale.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

ED runs fine on my aging system, see specs in my sig. And while it might still lack some features, it is rock-stable, have had not a single crash and only one server-drop-out since release.

I wouldn't call elite rock solid. I am having some serious problems with it. Visiting the tech forum boards, I can see a host of others with varying difficulties. I do have to say though that the elite dev team screwed the pooch rushing release for Christmas sales and deciding to take holidays as well. The host of tickets not being responded too is pretty appalling.

BUT

I would rather this over x abortion and I wouldn't support at any price this latest Xbox dumbed down iteration of the x series.

Not even if free would I touch rebirth.

Fighterops...

The only TRUE Stealth crowd funded game.

Devs said there was stuff there, but you just couldn't see it.

Think I have maybe played 40 minutes of X-Stillbirth, it is an abomination, I'm not even tempted to try it again even after the latest updates.

Rebirth is fun, albeit hokey with the highways, etc.--and after playing Elite Dangerous as much as I have, the combat in Rebirth is shallow and lacks depth. But, regardless, I did enjoy playing it last month for some time--it has potential at last and has improved significantly since it was released.

Well based on your posts I'll just pass on it for now unless its hits super cheap on steam (ie under $10). For now I'll work on building a new PC and dreaming of Star Citizen and ED!

Rebirth has a free weekend and a sale on Steam (currently just under £12). I have it installed to try but am I just wasting my time if I have E:D? I could never get on with the other 'X' games,I found them too complicated.

I have 2 days if I can find the time during that period to get a feel for it. I'm guessing I can allocate maybe 3-4 hours to it,can I get a handle on it in that time I wonder.I feel I should just delete it but I like a bargain.

Well since its on sale I picked up it and the teladi outpost DLC. Save it for later most likely. Unless I can not help myself.

Never really been super big into the X games. But I do all the main early quest lines a few months back of x3 albion prelude. So curious about this and on sale...why not.

Ok,10 minutes in and I already want to uninstall it and erase it from my memory.

I decided to try the campaign so I have that woman I rescued with the space rack sat next to me but she's no help at all.Dock at this station for repairs she says! So I get to the station and I see a repair icon in a glowing red cylinder so I assume that is where I dock? How the f**k do I dock? Shift-D? No.Enter for the interface? No.C for communicate? No.Fly into the dock repeatedly at speed? No. Shoot some laser at the door? No,but here come the Space Police, maybe they will let me in.Oh f**k mad

Well despite my reservations about this game I purchased the Teladi Outpost deal. After watching a few tutorials on YT I think I got it.

I have this on/off love affair with space games.E:D isn't currently doing it for me,there just doesn't seem to be enough to do at the moment.

Trying out the free deal this weekend.

Didn't get too much time in, just working on the 'tutorial'. Gave up last night having issues trying to dock with my freighter to deliver the captain to fly it...

VERY initial impressions:
- Looks great, runs well on triple monitor setup.
- Flight physics feel weird, immediate stopping once a zero throttle with no drifting seems off...
- Some of the menu systems are familiar from the old games, good for someone used to those.

Hopefully get some more time on it this weekend to see if it is worth picking up yet, or if I should leave it for a while and play some of the other games in my list.

One good thing, got my to dust off my x55 that I have barely touched since I bought it last year.

I never got to dock with my freighter as I never got past the attacking drones.I'm going to have to use my joystick next time.Good job the game told me earlier to press F5 to save the game.Except...

FFS! The save didn't work grrr

*update* Oh dear,oh dear. It's not much better with the joystick. This may take some setting up.If anyone has some tips on control set-up I'm all ears.

The more I read these posts the more I think I should just wait for an Elite/Star Citizen capable gaming rig......

I really like space games but they always seem way too deep or not deep enough, then throw in the learning curve of some titles and it just gets out of hand. I'd like to see something along the lines of Galaxy On Fire for IOS but with cockpits and a little more to do. Elite looks awesome but I need that PC to make it look pretty first!

I'm getting to grips with it slowly. The campaign is awkward in places and as I understand it,it was broken at some point in the past. It's just a tutorial and to be honest I think I'm going to skip it and just jump into open play.I don't like the fighting aspect so much and the campaign forces me to fight.I'd rather just trade and explore.

I had an amusing incident early in the campaign when you deliver the captain to your freighter.
On completion of that mission you are jumped by a couple of ships looking for whoever destroyed their drones. *cough* It was me. You are in the freighters hanger and I decided to chicken out and not leave but one of the ships flew inside and there then ensued a heated battle in a hanger that had barely enough room to manoeuvre.

It's like a flawed masterpiece.
