This is primarily addressed to the "core" players at SHQ who play MWO.

Last night was unlike anything I have ever seen with this group. I don't know how to address the situation, but I think you guys know what I'm taking about.

I don't mind:

- friendly banter (but not in the heat of battle, when some discipline is critical)
- new players (these guys seem friendly enough, but are in a different head space)
- guests on the channel (how are they getting our TS info?)

...but last night was over my line. Realizing how curmudgeonly I am in saying this...I will be in MWO2 for the more "old school" among us.

That, and maybe it's time to give Elite a go.

Any thoughts on this?

Who's the admin for TS? Guests need to be deported ASAP unless they're signed up here, and d-bags too wink

I hear ya. Nice enough people, but not at the same place in life as the bulk of us. Can't get a word in edgewise either.
Personally, I love the BS'ing going on, but it isn't our BS'ing now. We contain to to between rounds and the first empty minutes of a round.
I'm concerned about the TS server info getting out to non-members of the site.
They may have come here through a member, which is ok, but as a guest. That server is getting a lot of use that isn't from site members.
Touchy situation since they aren't bad guys, but I do think that splitting the group would be the (temporary) answer. I'll be on MWO2. And giving Elite a go.
Payday 2...or whatever. The group is where the fun comes from, not just the game, and the group is awkward at the moment.

Watch the homepage TS info. You'll see it getting a lot of use.

It would be easier if they were d-bags, but they aren't. Not members, not sure where they came from and tend to dominate the comms.
Hell, I felt like an outsider interrupting last night. WTF?

I think this is why Brennus and Klarsnow are using the channel "Stuff" to get away from us wink

I'm also in favor of rotating to another game for a bit. We did have a lot of fun in Pay Day. Now that Elite has wings, that may be an option too. Perhaps we can sync drop wings?

MechWarrior 1941 (aka War Thunder) looks good too.

I'll be on tonight for some more SimHQ action!

Well part of the problem last night was caused by me. I got frustrated and vented a little bit. Unfortunately that spun up and out of control pretty damn quick. I don't think it would have gotten so bad if I hadn't vented on the evening's luck.

Discipline, while not a strong suit or a requirement in our group, did get pretty bad last night. One of the reasons you don't here a lot of our banter in the videos is because it cuts out at engine start and I always cut that out of the vids. Which is good news for some people...you know who you are...Tomo.

Ultimately, I don't know what to do about it. Its a sticky situation. For the immediate future we may just need to tell people during drops to cut the chatter. I know I need to be told to shut up from time to time. If that doesn't work we can come up with a plan B.

With that in mind, Clyde's kid was out of hand. It made me uncomfortable and a little self conscious. That kind of stuff is uncalled for.

Well let me know your plans for mwo (for the odd times I am up at 3am to play with you guys.

Otherwise as suggested, elite is working really well with wings, and you can have in game your private wing voice channel.

SimHQ guys are now starting to coalesce together and flying in groups is becoming regular. Its a good game.

You were getting frustrated like the rest of us Feet because we weren't able to run how we're used to. We might not be a competitive team, but we do stick to the business at hand once the action starts. Last night we had to play like PUG's because we couldn't communicate--and that was during the 12 man games that are a struggle even on our best day.
Tues went well but there were only 1 or 2, and not in all rounds, so we were still able to play somewhat normally. It paid off. The other chatter was absent.

Ouch, for us new guys playing this thread sounds quite ominous. I wasn't on last night but were comms a complete mess or did the game just not turn out well for us?

Performance wise, last night was very bad. We did not win a single game and the ones we lost were mostly steam-rolls. We'd kill 1 or 2 of the opposing side and lose 12.

Now that I think about it, there are two factors that led to this. 1) Group size 2) Discipline.

Since we don't want to be try-hards, the factor that we can control to accommodate our casual playing style is group size. We should not drop as a 10 man or 12 man. When we're are more than 8, we should form two groups.

There's another option when we have a good sized group on: private rooms. We could either use both MWO rooms, open a 3rd one, or use in game VOIP.
For years I never played with the public at all, but just a group of like-minded adult players in Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six.
Everyone had the same mentality, there were no issues with "meta" mentalities, no bugs exploited. Everyone played in the spirit of the game, not rush tactics etc. We could create custom game types within the types in the game to liven it up. Weapon limitations, agree to not capture to use the better spawn points in a siege game...lots of options. "Mole" was a great game type. One team recruits a player on the opposing team to be their mole/assassin. The paranoia that creates is hilarious. Perfect for imbalanced team sizes.
Teams could always be random since we were all friends and knew how each other played anyway. EVERY game was a good one regardless of the outcome, no harsh feelings. If having a good time, who cares if one team might sometimes have an extra player?

Is there any interest in switching to private rooms as an option?

Yeah that's a good idea, might be fun to divvy up and setup some matches.

Behemoth,

I was worried that a post like this may seem potentially unwelcoming, and believe me, that is not the goal. Having said that, many of us have been here for a decade or longer. There is a SimHQ "culture". It's not that dang strict, but last night was absolute madness. No attempt at coordinated team play, and the channel was flooded with chatter...from folks I've never seen on the site...ever. By all means please continue to join us, you are fine. The fact that you are on the forum kinda indicates that.

Defcon,
How are these set up? How is access controlled?

...and thanks for discussing this guys. I think a few of us felt like strangers in our own house last night.

IIRC, you just form a group as usual, but instead of launching into public, you choose private. Takes you to a lobby where you split into teams.
If the host has premium time, which is not an issue to have, you get more options as far as game set up.

Ok, My turn. I don't post but I do from time to time read and to finally get me to type on this dang thing takes a feet. duel

Last night was kind of rough and last night was not a one off. We cut up sure, we say off color stuff sure, but we also play together. I really enjoy the people (lord knows I don't have much of that lately). I also really really like MechWarrior. Which means I don't want to just run to another game to avoid a situation. We have two channels and it would appear that we starting to form two distinct MWO groups (great). We have a SHQ unit, lets enforce it. We will play in our channel. We will allow other but only after they adhere to our guidelines and we will report (Omega) anyone that causes us issue.

I have heard stories of the other channels being strict about certain things then I would assume we can get the same.

This is our few hours of fun and I have no problem being the bad guy to preserve our peace. I am at the service of SHQ.

Oh, And I too am up for cutting the arms off Feet's hellbringer. grrr

Hey Sinner, No hurt feelings, and I'm sensitive to changes in the "culture". My profile may seem new, but I've been with Sim HQ from the early Aughts (2000 maybe 1998, not really sure though)), I think I found it while playing Falcon 4. I just think that it needs s to be spelled out what proper comms should look like, as I will join when I'm on MWO, and I'm old enough to not have a lot to say but the bare minimum. Glad to play with you guys, and as I'm new to a lot of you I want to state that new and unfamiliar is not always a departure from SimHQ culture. So what is the general channel we are using for public games?

I jumped online last night, and when I saw the turnout for MWO on the TS3 channel I was gonna jump in, but only after an update, and due to long stretches of down time it was something like 13 patches total, which took a good part of an hour. Sorry about the situation last night, maybe we should call on Magnum to sort this out. If your familiar w/ ArmA you'll know what I mean.
