In other aircraft I hit CTRL SPACE to open the canopy, then CTRL-E three times to bail out. In the 109 it seems I can't open the canopy in the air, I just hear a knocking sound. Anyone know what's going on?

Is there an option for "jettison Canopy"? This is what you would have to do in the real thing.

Yeah, gotta jettison the canopy. The way it opens is it goes up, whereas e.g. the Spit's canopy slides back. That means that there'll be too much resistance from the air to open it. What you have to do is use the emergency handle to simply detach the entire thing, which is represented by the "Jettison canopy" option.

Here's how I bail out of my 109. It works great and it's fast. One button on my CH Throttle. The lower one on the side that is down low and out of the way to avoid those nasty accidents that have happened to use all. Just two rocks of that button and I'm out. One up and one down. Up blows the canopy and down bails me out. Fast and simple.

salute

In the old IL-2 Stumovik 2001, IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles or IL-2 1946 how many of you fell for the old Ctrl E gag? "Hey how the heck do you...." "Oh simple...Ctrl E" If you really needed to know something people could be flying for years and next thing they know their in mid air falling through space until their chute opens. I fell for it tons of times....DOH! duh
