Hello All,

So after all this time, I finally joined the band wagon last night, and bought the DCS F-86F Sabre. And it's outstanding, that level of fidelity is first rate. So, I want of tip my hat off and congratulate all parties involved for this, and all products coming out the DCS.

I'm still going over all the details of the basics, which got me hooked. Weapons employment is next. One, of my all time favorite flight simulations, back is the day, was Rowan's Mig Alley. The immersion factor was outstanding. So, if their is third party out there, working on the Mig-15bis, which after this great release, one would hope that is "in development and coming soon". OK, so given the high quality, and attention to detail involved in the task it takes to make a high fidelity aircraft to current standards, here's a flight dreamers request, if humanly possible.

1) Korean war era, circa 1950's itemized landscapes, or terrains with airfields like Kimpo (K-14), Suwon (K-13).
2) Korean war era full USAF Squadron markings and aircraft skins, from both fighter wings, The 4th FIW & 51st FIW.
3) Korean war other aircraft like SAR Helo's,C-47's, Meteors, F9F-2, F-80, F-84.
4) Korean war era detailed area maps, pilot uniforms, ground support personnel, ground vehicles, fuel trucks ect.
5) Korean war era US & British aircraft carriers and other naval ships.
6) Korean war Complete fully immersive Campaign 1950 to 1953.

Hey one can dream right!!!! But is half of this request possible? Thank you all, and when this done biggrin See you in the skies over mig alley.

Best Regards,
Heat2151

I'd actually consider buying another DCS product again if they did this.

But yeah, at this point I'd say keep dreaming.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

Other than the MiG-15 itself, nothing else Korean War-era is listed as coming out soon that I recall.
A full-on KW sim would be great, it's been 15 years since the last one, but I don't think it's a priority right now for them.

You have a legitimate post Heat - with legitimate wishes. I'd say all of your requests are possible provided someone picks up the mantle (whether that is ED or a third party). Pretty much everything you listed would be part of a total Korean War theater, so it just remains to be seen whether that will happen. ED has (I guess) committed to eventually doing WW2 (personally, not a fan, but whatever..) so I don't think it would be outside of the bounds of what they might plan to do.

Stay positive and be sure to mention your wishlist to the developers at ED - they do listen (I can guarantee that) and use input like yours to guide future development. I'd love to see it tomorrow, but as I'm sure you can imagine the road to such a project is a long and bumpy one.

Nice post.

Give us a Yak-9 with the MiG-15 and we'll have 4 period-appropriate planes. The ground forces and terrain are another matter.

Making an immersive campaign would undoubtedly be hard to achieve as well. Apart from the lack of period ground units and terrain, things like communication and tactics wouldn't work at all. If GCI wasn't possible to implement for the MiG-21, I doubt it'd be possible to simulate the radar vectoring the USAF did over MiG alley would be possible. As for inter flight communication, it's far from perfect (the AI is not good at calling out anything without using Bullseye, which isn't too helpful in a dogfight) but the main challenge would be tactics. Try doing a finger four formation throughout a dogfight and you'll see what I mean. Not even your wingman will stay on your tail to cover you when you tell him to cover you, so you have to look behind your back a lot when lining up a shot.

I'm not saying it can't be done (trust me, a Korean war campaign like described is the best thing I can think of for DCS), but it's a lot of work.

Is it within the realm of possibility that some sort of Combined Arms module would give an AWACS or GCI component to DCS World?

No idea, but the lack of GCI for the Fishbed (despite what Beczl claimed for a long time) makes it seem unlikely to appear. IIRC LNS said that while possible, it could take several months of work just developing the system for the AI to guide you for an intercept. I don't feel anyone would spend that amount of time on a system suited for just one aircraft/era. Maybe a more general system when 3rd party devs are more prominent, unless people would complain too much about a generic GCI as opposed to a 100% realistic one.

Btw, you have a MiG-21 preview copy. How does GCI look there? Maybe a review of it?

There's a bit of GCI/AWAC in CA if you counted what the player can do. The 9-line is to the A-10 what GCI is to a MiG, it's lifeblood. I hope there's a 1-on-1 controller module for the -21. A radar off approach would surprise a lot of pilots in more capable fighters.

Yeah, there needs to be some expectation management here. You're talking 10-15 years of development time to implement all of that stuff...and 15 years might not even be enough.

Number 1 is probably possible...and number 2. Some of number 3. A scripted number 5 is possible if number 1 is done.

But we're talking years and years of work here.

I don't particularly fancy how there's a seemingly large amount of communication from and between ED and the community going on in the Russian part of the ED forums that never makes it to the English part. I don't really understand the translation, nor do I understand the context. Is it someone who's joined ED or a 3rd party dev, or is it "just" (because those are some darn fine cockpits!) an amateur 3D developer?

Hello all,

First I want to thank every one for your positive feedback and your words of encouragement. But like one of the lines of favorite songs from motley crue "They say, I'm a dreamer with a heart of gold". This may well take years, but, anythings is possible, with the direction that DCS to going, who know's. DCS Korea or DCS Mig Alley, man, one can only wait and see.

I just hope for more positive progress and support with the flight simulation community as a whole. Compared to what we had on the late 90's when Jane's Combat Simulation Series, MicroProse and Rowan's. We have come along way. Back in the day for $50 you could get an entire game, a full boxed set with a books included, but now a days, your looking at one plane at a time, all digital downloads. Whether it's DCS, 777 or IL2. We have to support these guy's if we expect the genre to grow. Sure, it's the closest thing you can get in a living room to the real thing, but, you gotta love the progress that is being made. I have a been a flight simmer for 20 years now, and love this hobby.

With the DCS-F-86F Sabre, I went through the basics, pretty straight forward, completed the weapons employment just to the point of shooting my guns, then it was take off's and landings, flight management aka watch the fuel gauge. So I decided to take on one of the missions that came with it. The mission is the one with Col Robbie Risner's flight and the craziest thing happened. It opened up with 2 Mig-15's I started banking to my right, so now, I'm going after tail end charlie, then both Mig's leveled off and split two ways. I'm like no way, dude!!! So I, stick to tail end charlie since he's the closest target, but what happens next, this guy goes inverted the dives for the deck just like that!! I'm, like man I'm impressed, next thing I hear is this pop-pop-pop, I look behind me and it's his boy trying to nail me. I had to pull into him and it took somewhere like 4 to 5 more turns, and tried to pop my brakes, just to try and get a solution on him, but man could he turn on a dime. It was my understanding that the F-86 was more maneuverable than the Mig-15bis, below 30k Ft, I can honestly say this fight started at around angles 18.7k. I wish I had wingman to wake me up and cover my six. Well, folks duty call's, my platoon mates are at attention (a pair of German Shepherds) need their walk. runningdog

See you in the skies over Mig Alley and Check Six. salute

One of the reasons I bought into the ww2 kickstarter was to get my hands on the promised SDK. That was one of the many broken promises that has left a very bitter taste.
I was also in the process of developing an AD skyraider. I have paid a very talented 3D artist to model the aircraft but I do not know what to do with it now. It seems the communities sole purpose is to just buy the products. Any form of modding gets zero help from ED. Map making will only be allowed for the chosen few. A shame really. I'm sure the community would have at least 30% of the globe modeled within 5 years of the release of the SDK. As it is we will have to wait and hope our theatre wishlist gets on some devs to do list

Wags July 2014 "In this July 2014 update, the primary news is in regards to the restructured backer rewards. After a careful review of the older system under RRG, we found it financially unattainable."
Wags October 2017 "the investment vs. generated revenue has been excellent for the World War II aircraft. In fact, the P-51D Mustang has twice the cost effectiveness of the A-10C Warthog."

I would buy if all you ask for was there, and on going support of course.

The SAR "Helo" was the H-19, which I was in on SAR missions during my USAF enlistment( Just after the KW,
but later with the 51's FIW & 16th FI SQ. ).
