I have now spent the whole damned weekend playing the remastered sabow. Been awhile since I played SABOW.

Now i am thinking about maybe trying to get the M38a1 jeep playable in game again. Is it even worth the effort? If I did get the bloody thing to work I would end up doing a campaign with it. Maybe a Crescent Moon II. Where half of it you would be glued to a jeep getting some kind of defense ready. The other in the M60a1.

Just talking out the side of my mouth here.

Just now remastered SABOW has a 3d set up phase camera (YAY!) and there may just be more interest again. Less tank sim. More company commander infantry glued to jeep seat. If I could get that working.

Going threw my old Isabow files. As well as looking at what is new under the hood with the new one.

Any who... Booted up the last thing I was working on. It was of course the playable M38a1. It was not done but was far enough along to try and get it drivable. Well...an issue with not being able for game to find a place for the human to sit. Well or AI's. but would spawn at least.

Have some pics =)






And some OLD ones where I got it to sort of work as an AI only vehicle. Which is WAY more easy to get working.

Well this was unexpected...

ISABOW 4 gtos mod works with the remastered sabow. More or less. Still a bit surprised by that one.

WIP M38a1 in GTOS. Get all the kinks out in GTOS and then back to hair pulling trying to get it playable. I really hope this works this time..

Oh lord...

Believe it or not, I almost have this thing rigged up right as an AI vehicle in GTOS. Just need to figure out why the ammo goes poof, fix the disappearing texture, and get the guy hovering over the gun to knock that off.

Still issues with the gun and ammo. Strange issue indeed. But can't wait now to get this issue solved so I can do the final bit O model and textures. Well and see about making it human usable in SABOW.

Its a real cute little unit. biggrin

Some fan fire with the old M106a1's. YAY! got all the basic functionality with the m38a1. Still needs tweaks. Turns like poo. It really needs custom poses for the crew (something I do not have access too). But it can shoot stuff. Still need to get to the M38a1c. Which will be the heavy hitter.....M40 106mm recoiless rifle. But how I have a basis to torture myself and try and get it drivable in SABOW.

The M106's? They are ok. Was a speed job on textures. Not my best. But they are 3 years old. Released with ISABOW and such way back. While Isabow does not work with the remastered, oddly ISABOW for GTOS does more or less. Go figure. I will likely update all the old stuff, well campaigns I did at least along with the way old minimod for the remastered sabow.

For this go around since IRan never used M106's but did use M30 heavy mortars I will probably take the mortars out of the m106 and make them separate. If a player wants to move them about, just order them into an m113 for transport. Something like that. However, if I update old mission crescent moon to crescent moon II, they will get the M106a1's for sure. That is just Iran standing in for a NATO in a balls to the wall reinforced Warsaw pact style reinforced mechanized infantry battalion slamming into a few Nato style defenders.

LOL modeled the gun shield like 3 years ago. But was after what Iran did with theirs. Which seems to be no gun shields. The ACAV kit seems to only have been done by South Vietnam and the US Army. Although the commanders bit of that kit seems to have been used by a number of Nato m113 users over the years.

Main reason was I never got the damned m113 quite right on the basic playbale version. Why I never released that. With the m113 with recoiless rifles I got the M40 to work right, the driver to work right, but never the commander and his .50 cal mg. That was always borked. Just could never solve that one. Other issues too. Never got the periscopes to work. i was able to work out about what 1/2 the config did. but the other 1/2 no freaking idea.

Which is why I think I can get the m38a1 and m38a1C to work. Well maybe. If I had gone with tank with the 4 person crew I probably would have been more likely to get that to somewhat work. Hopefully now will meet with more success with round 2. No longer stupid publisher issues. And will hopefully get more help from Gravi than before. Although they did what they could and more than they should have back then under the circumstances.


So the plan now is to try and get the m38's working. Update all the old campaigns I did for old sabow. Get the mini mod part of isabow up to date. Then worry about the m113's. If I meet with success on the m38a1 and m38a1c then maybe totally rework the m113's to a playable version. And BTW... working gear shifting is being added to remastered sabow. Perfect for the m38a1 jeeps.. Oh and of course complete the m38's textures.. they are still vary WIP. HAve to make all the gauges for the m38 "cocpit".. LOL which will only be working gauges for playable vehicle most likely. Unless somehow I can do more the M2hb version. Like a T & E or something. What this really means with the M38 is that the player will have something to boss around and take part in battles where no tanks are present. And with the M38a1C. Play suicidal tank destroyer with a whopping 6 rounds of 105mm recoiless ammo to fight tanks with. Last summer i FINALLY found the gun sight range scale of the M40 recoiless rifle. YAY! And got to look over both an M38a1 and an m40 recoiless rifle close up.

flash burn.. I was think, you tired yourself maybe too much on a small vehicle (jeep), maybe you should make some things that are more present and decisive and nice add-ups? I mean that these jeep cars, the occupants would jump out of them as soon as combat begins, like the trucks, maybe you should port BRDM to iran-iraq war and gun-mount trucks and add more trucks or add a vehicle like AML-90?

Ill be setting up the armed jeeps so that no jumping out at the first sign of trouble. If I do an unarmed one, well their maybe issues if it is playable, maybe not. Think of the gaz66 with zu-23-2. They do not jump out.

AML-90 would be a good choice for a vehicle. But is same issues as with a tank. Lack of interior photos and simply much more work with out knowing if I can get the #%&*$# working. In the end, the jeep is a good vehicle for what I am after. A simple playable test with less to go wrong. It allows the player a vehicle that you can control ai infantry forces without overly effecting a battles out come where no tanks are about. I certainly don't think they will be vary effective! But setting some up in a scout platoon with artillery spotters might just be real interesting. This is what one of the things I trained to do in the military. At least what I ended up doing in the end. That is a "light" mounted scout. Simply find the enemy. Tell everyone where the enemy is. And call artillery on anything found. And I have high hopes for the M38a1c. That might actually be fun. Before you get blown up.

I think I stuck my spec map in the wrong channel or something wierd for gravi's engine. Anyhow... now with glass wind shield and head lights that you can't see. UGH. More things to fix.

Well at least I finally got my main normal map behaving. Ill take that at least.




And how it might look if it where not being silly...







I hope I can get these things playable in SABOW. I mean suicide cars sounds fun to me. Maybe I am weird.





Interesting. I now have the config pretty much right for ai to shoot stuff. Sent 6 of my jeeps after 4 BTR-60s. Was not expecting that to be so lop sided. My little jeeps wasted the entire platoon of btr 60's with their most of their infantry. Lost 2 jeeps and a few crew members. These are not the M113 that turn turtle all to often. Just need to solve somewhat crappy turning, gear ratio's, and way to springy suspension on that front. These things are going to be stupid fun for both GTOS and SABOW I think.

Breakable parts are mainly working. 2 do not seem to be. mad Location damages are being stupid. Not working at all which is vary odd.

Well damages still are not working... a 73mm round to the front of the vehicle SHOULD at least knock out the engine. A the VARY least. Usually setting this up is pretty easy. Not sure what i missed. And some more texture work + experiments.

Damages now actually work. Silly issue that one. Simply missing the updated config tag.



Head lights and tail lights... CHECK...

Black out drive I do not think can be properly modeled in game. So if I get board i guess add in the little dim marker lights for the hell of it.
