I don't see anybody use machine guns, do they work. I know you probably bind a mouse key. What do you use?

Is there any pros and cons to the Training System? Is it best to become Expert as soon as possible. What's the real advantage?

I noticed that machine guns on tanks are useful for a very limited range of things.

Hose down open vehicles, light armoured ones, and unsuspecting airplanes too slow and too low.
Occasionally it works to scare some tanks and keep the pressure on while you reload or stuff.

It even happened the bullets found their way to a soft spot- but that might have been a lucky stray shell in an Arcade match so...

The training system is actually useful but it takes a VERY long time to improve the crew. Or lotsa money.
The single biggest main help is the gunner aiming. The higher the level, the more it will traverse the main gun in both axis (vertical and horizontal) at the same time, instead of first adjusting horizontally and then lifting the barrel.

Everything does get better, the more you train it, but few things are better than an expert gunner.

My machine guns are bound to the spacebar (default?). I use them on aircraft,and the weaker spots on tanks. Sometimes I get the green 'penetration' marker come up so it's always worth a go. Oh,they're also great at chopping down trees. Or should that be making them slowly disappear into the ground?

Mine are bound to one of the side mouse buttons, lumberjacking is their job. Poland i always chop down the high area opposite the town so tanks can't hide, create fire lanes in some areas. Eastern Europe when spawning Western side there is a couple of areas that are common spots for enemy tanks to sit and shoot at tanks coming out of spawn after they have done the run from their spawn, i clear them on the way past on my initial spawn. If i am under attack and in a bad way i will also shoot down trees in front the enemy tank so they do not have a clear view of me.

I have killed a lot more trees than tanks

I'm pretty sure there should be an achievement for that!
