But they've dropped a lot of hints about a Tomcat. An AN/AWG-9 radar pic for example. Unless they're making the F-111B fleet defense interceptor, that really only leaves the Tomcat on the table. And the MiG-21bis is post American-NVN hostilities.

They are working on the F-4 Phantom (or perhaps the F-8, but I'm going Phantom) and a Vietnam theater.

Think about it- it all makes sense. First, they already have the MiG-21. What is the peanut butter to the MiG-21 jelly? The F-4 of course!

Next, they talk about new technologies. That has to be carrier code. They also mention ships...another clue indicating carriers.

AI aircraft can only mean additional Vietnam-era aircraft like the MiG-17/19 and other meat and potatoes jets like the A-6.

Finally, they talk about dropping jaws. Well ED has mentioned developing code to implement dual cockpits, and so I'm sure LNS is working with ED to create a two-seater, MP compatible Phantom.

So there it is, you heard it here first, and so there.

Counterpoint: The third picture in the letter is the mid section of an F-14 from the back right, and the MiG-21Bis is outside of period for major hostilities in Vietnam. As for models, the mid 80s were a sort of renaissance for the US surface fleet, with no less than 5 classes of guided missile cruiser, 3 classes of guided missile destroyer, a class each of surface warfare destroyer, battleship, anti-submarine and guided missile frigate in service: the majority of which are not in game yet.

In Summary:
THERE ARE NO STOPS ON THE TOMCAT HYPE TRAIN. CHOO! CHOO!

The MIG-21s used in Vietnam were very different from the Bis. The F-13 had 35 rounds in the cannon and two R-3s. No radar, no flares. Other versions had radar (but no gun), ect. I believe a few PFMs (?) were used, which had a radar + cannon.

The F-4 really out classed the MIG-21, even the Bis. A MIG-23 (which was designed as an F-4 counter) and the Mirage F1 are more comparable.

The render looks like an F-14 to. Maybe it is an AI unit? Although I wonder if these AI units will be sold separately like addon aircraft, or if they will be integrated into the game. I hope they are integrated otherwise it will be a pain for online. Ensure everyone has the same map, the same units, ect. Accidentally place a single new AI unit that is not free for all DCS users and suddenly a bunch of people can't join your server.

Also, I'll throw in my guess. One of the planes is an F-16 (air to ground radar, studio setup in Poland).

Vietnam era F4J Phantom, and a dual cockpit setup. If they could produce the US Carriers that where on Yankee station off Vietnam during that time period and maybe I could keep dreaming for an F8 Crusader and possibly an A4 sky hawk down the line. Hey count me in. I sincerely hope they do the right map for this.

I prefer the F-14FM, better sound quality and more accurate reproduction.

It's not a question of whether or not it's a Tomcat, it is. That silhouette is one of a kind. It's a question of which Tomcat it is. I'm hoping for the B, a D would be impossibly spectacular, I'd love every frustrating, compressor stall plagued minute spent in the A.
