Hi there,

Normally when I run CLOD I have no FPS issues.

On mission 8 of the RAF campaign - this is the one where I need to fly my hurricane to Manston I have had a terrible FPS drop which has rendered the game unplayable.

Is this a bug in the mission or is it just because there is more going on?

My specs are as follows:

AMD Phenom X4 9150e
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450
4 GB RAM

Which RAF campaign?- the original suplied with game or REDUX?
I certainly don't recall fps being an issue with this mission in REDUX, and there isn't particularly heavy activity in this mission.

It might possibly be worth trying dropping some graphics settings to get through this mission? (switching off clouds, shadows and trees would be a good place to start- and if you are using the 'extended clouds' option available in TF then definitely disable it).

This is the REDUX mission.

It's really really weird - the rest of the campaign has been fine.

I have tried dropping graphics levels but no luck at all.

I tried a freeflight mission and there is no performance issues whatsoever.

In the problem mission I am getting around 1FPS.

Thanks!

ALl i can say is that during testing of the REDUX campaign I can recall no issues with this mission, particularly of the drastic nature you report. I also cannot recall anyone else having such an issue.
However it was a smallish test team and probably didn't include your exact hardware (which is on the low end ).

As yu say, it is weird for a mission to give 1fps- it is certainly possible to make missions that can bring any rig to it's knees (i have one with 70 he111's and 200 fighters escorting-runs at 5 fps hahaha ),
in this case the mission does have more statics/stationary objects than previous missions in campaign- tho later ones can have even more! and even this number is nothing compared to some missions people have created with several 1000's of statics dizzy - I wonder if this might be what is stressing your rig?

One possible test would be to run task manager (cntrl alt del while running the mission and look at the performance tab should show if it is a cpu or memory issue?

I have done the test as suggested - although I don't really know what i'm looking for.

The memory bit says 3.09GB and has a blue line close to the top of the graph on "Physical Memory Usage History" and the CPU usage is 32% and the graphs look to be about half way up the page.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help on this.

memory useage flat at 3gb sounds like it might be 'overflowing' your 4gb (what OS are you using? 32 bit?)
Do you see hard drive activiy when running this mission? ( if memory is full computer will write/read the 'excees' to/from hard drive- which would be one possible explanation of what you are experiencing.)

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. How do I tell if I have hard drive activity?

If memory is the problem is it just a case that I need to upgrade my RAM?

Most comps have an led light that comes on during hard disk activity, but if not there is a further tab in task manager you could look at-resource monitor.

I would be cautious of recommending you go out and spend money on your rig ((it might work- but it might not, and your rig is weak in other areas.
A test of the mission with statics removed would 'prove' this is the cause- but I'm on long days working this week so I'm not sure I have time to do this for you- are you familiar with fmb?

Check your "log.txt" if the mission at hand throws errors for your install.
I had a similar behaviour during mission creation tests where an unlucky combination (having loads of random calls) threw loads of errors for me - ended up easily in 1 figure FPS.

Can be a soundfile missing or whatnot (pretty common but rarely bites FPS).

(But I don't think the campaign runs too much on random calls so this is a grab in the dark by all means as bolox stuff is pretty solid as far as I know)

The original REDUX missions were intended to create a low hit on the PC, so there is virtually no scripting (random calls or other) and minimal ground objects. Bolox and Gabuzomeu threw in some curly scripting in some other missions (eg landing gear failures, text messages) but not that one!

For TF all we did was adjust altitudes and aircraft types to take advantage of the high alt improvements and the addition of Blen IVF and 109E-N

V unusual for this mission to cause those kind of probs...

Hi Bolox,

It seems I have hard drive activity - using the resource manager.

When I click "disk" it shows the C drive graphs with lots of spikes.

The CPU tab shows a jagged blue line close to, but not touching, 100%

It shows that I have physical memory free.

I have no idea if this is relevant or not - I don't know much about computers at all...

Unfortunately I don't know what FMB is!

Thanks for looking at this for me, I do appreciate it.

Hi Oden,

I don't know where i'm looking for the log.txt or indeed what i'm looking for.

From what Heinkill says it sounds like this might be a red herring but i'm keen to look at all the options to see if there is a fix.

What should I do?

Cheers;

Alex

In your "Documents/1C Softclub/il2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD/" folder there is a small log.txt based on your previous session (reset each time you start il2).
Contains alot of gibberish but look for "ERROR:" and see if any is present and if they make any sense.
For example I have:
[21:09:27] ERROR: HierMesh: Can't find chunk 'UC0'
[21:09:27] =================================================
[21:09:27] System.Runtime.InteropServices.SEHException (0x80004005): Ett undantagsfel har inträffat i en extern komponent.
[21:09:27] vid corelib.CoreERROR(SByte* )
..yada yada

from my last session, had no issues with frames though so I just ignore it.

(
also found this:
[21:09:27] Server: theOden’s G.50 ( - ), AI in a Spitfire Ia (100oct) (SH o A) shot down Hurricane I (Rotol 100oct) (KW o K) (AI).
[21:09:34] Server: The battle ends.

haha I'm so awesome
)

Hi theOden,

Unfortunately - after searching my whole hard drive I cannot find a "log.txt".

There is certainly not one in the directory you suggested; which is obviously very weird.

Could this be part of a problem?

This whole thing is so frustrating! I really don't know what to do.

Given that the other missions have run fine I am leaning towards the fact that it is just an error with that mission, but I don't know how to begin to fix it...

Thanks for looking at it.

Alex

Very frustratingly I still can't fix this.

Is there any other good BoB campaigns for CloD?

There is Always http://www.desastersoft.com/ (but they seem to focus on Luftwaffe)

Desastersoft also has RAF campaigns in Wick versus Dundas. It's the only way to play CloD single player!

You can always just skip that mission and go to the next.
