I've never know about Art of the Kill until this post. I watched it on YouTube. Very enjoyable. It makes me want to turn and burn with some Migs. At the end of the video, one of the audience asked a question about corner velocity and it was similar to something I've wondered about. Given these two options, which will be more effective in getting position on the bandit. The setup is a 1v1 head to head neutral fight.
Option 1. You've been racing at the bandit in full afterburner and are really fast; much faster than corner velocity. At the merge, you pull as hard as possible. As you travel through your turn, you bleed lots of energy. Once you reach corner velocity, you ease up on your turn and maintain corner velocity.
Option 2. Before the merge, you shed some speed. At the initial turn, you are at corner velocity and you maintain it during the turn.
I did a very quick and unsophisticated test in Jane's F/A-18. Option 1 got me turned 180 degrees quicker than option 2. However, option 2 yielded a much tighter circle.
Any thoughts on what the better strategy is?
