I would say that I get slightly better FPS in P3D compared to FSX but its negligible. But even at those similar FPS P3D runs so much smoother so it feels like the FPS is a lot higher.

Thanks guys, good to hear the progress on P3D, glad to see that they are making good progress, I see more and more people using it instead of FSX.
I will probably check it out at v3.0 (I heard 2.6 will be the last version for v2)

I'll add that for me, I get maybe a 10% boost in frames, but it also looks better at that frame rate, versus FSX, especially with Shadows. The real determining factor is your video card, which P3D is able to take much better advantage of.

I recall that P3D allowed underwater ops. Is that true? And if so, has anyone tried it?
-S Yes, it's true. As of 2.5 there is a Ohio class sub. I selected it just to check it out and it bobs around in the swell somewhat convincingly and that's about it. I think it's just there for proof of concept. Don't expect to do anything exciting with it anytime soon unless some 3rd party developer decides to use p3d as a platform for a sub sim. It's probably all there, but only in the shape of an API. It *could* be awesome, but don't buy it because you want sub action. Also, now that I have installed p3d 2.5 there is no reason for me to keep FSX on my computer. For me and my setup (a laptop with a 780M and 4800MQ) it curb-stomps FSX in terms of smoothmess, FSP and texture sharpness. It's all up to the developers now to take full advantage of what P3D has to offer.

I am thinking about pulling the trigger and purchasing P3D. I am not sure which version to purchase. I read that with the $50 version, I will have to live with a logo on the screen. For $200 I can get the version without the logo. How big is the logo on the $50 version and is it there ALL the time while flying? If someone could post a screen shot of what it looks like, it would be helpful. Thanks.

What kind of framerate do you guys get in P3D 2.5 with REX and Orbx and A2A or RealAir planes?
I've not made the jump from FSX yet because it works well enough for me in DX10Fixer and since with P3D you have to buy a new version whenever it moves to the next major version (i.e. v2.0 owners will need to buy 3.0), so I've been waiting for P3D to develop some features worth upgrading to besides cockpit and cloud shadows...
One thing that would get me off the fence would be framerate, is that much better in P3D with REX + ORBX + deep systems payware aircraft compared to similar FSX? I have FSX/REX/ORBX (global, vector, all region packages)/DX10fixer on my five year old PC/. I'm new to P3D, which I have on my new PC. I added only FTX Global to P3D. I don't know if it is my new PC, which I run exclusively at 3840 x 2160, or P3D, or some combination of the two, but I like P3D much better. It's beautiful. EVen without FTX Global installed, the plain version of P3D is on a level with an enhanced version of FSX. And plain vs. plain isn't even a contest. Again, it could be that 4K vs. 2K is that much more beautiful. I haven't tried P3D at 2K. 2K vs 2K might be closer. What's missing in P3D? Flyable default commercial airliners. That's it. But P3D has other default flyables that don't come with FSX, so it's a wash when it comes to aircraft. P3D (I have version 2.4 and won't upgrade until 3.0) is just better. I haven't touched FSX since I started using P3D.

I'm installing P3D instead of fsx on my new laptop when it comes. I'm really excited about it.

How does the licensing work for P3D? I know its not meant to be for entertainment usage but does anything actually check/are you meant to provide some kind of proof that you're not using it as basically an FSX upgrade? Of course anyone could claim any proper flight sim is educational in some sense. I simply bought the academic license in January, downloaded, installed and now play...I mean fly whenever I'm in the mood. I haven't done anything special.

Of course anyone could claim any proper flight sim is educational in some sense. They couldn't care less. Their forum is full of guys who are basically using it as an FSX upgrade. They added the licensing term "used for simulation" after v.2 released to basically be a catch all for the guys coming from FSX.

Prepar3D is basically the ESP simulation engine from Microsoft. FSX uses the ESP engine as well. not exactly ... ESP uses the FSX engine. P3D is an slightly developed ESP.
