While we wait for the manual of Belsimtek, I thought I would gather my thoughts about what I know so far and write it all down before I forget.

Hey Chuck,

Thanks for creating the guide. I scanned it and it looks really cool. This should help me tame the beast.

I've been using it extensively, very helpful. Only comment I have is that I'd like more detail on the eccentricities of the radar sight, such as how to get it to lock on small targets. Also, a cheatsheet of common wingspans would be most helpful when using the manual sight.

Chuck, got any good tips on the gunsight? I have a very hard time getting the pipper on target. When I do it's mostly so briefly that the burst I fire even misses.

I thought about it... still I concluded that the other planes could be google'd or wikipedia'd easily. The only wingspan I found relevant to remember was the MiG-15's. Others are less relevant as you are very unlikely to fight anything else from that time period.

The gunsight is special indeed. If you have too much trouble with the gyro, use the fixed one. I do that for most ww2-era planes. However, if you want a tip for the gyro: make sure that you have a "lock" on your target. What I mean by that is that you need to keep tracking it by keeping your nose in the right position. Avoid hard banks as they mess up your gyro and accumulate errors.

You can check at 6:20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHaz3kx39-8
I usually keep tapping-holding my gyro for about 1-2 seconds to try to get a "radar lock". Once you get a lock, you can see right away that your gunsight will track your target and stop wobbling around.

Just found this. Thanks for the work. My goal is to learn the F86 and the P51 to be able to fly precise formations.
Thanks Chuck.

Thanks for the work Chuck. This, along with some informative videos, have made flying the F-86 very easy.
