I'm just getting into the Combat Mission series. I'm an Eastern Front guy, is CMRT worth purchasing? Is CMBS really any better?

So what CM series game have you played? What are you getting into now?

Red Thunder is awesome because of the fact it has all the 3.0 updates, and is a great game on the Eastern Front.

Black Sea is also using the 3.0 engine, and I love it more because I prefer modern combat, (said it before, and I'll say it again... would really love a CM Cold War series based in the 80's.) but modern combat does have it's issues... mainly, even on the largest maps very hard to maneuver or fight close quarters... almost everything can be seen on the battlefield with drones, and very hard to get enough room to flank a force, without getting seen and shot at from a totally different unit across the map.

SO, IMO... if you love the series old or new, then the new WW2 games are great for you, only get the modern ones if your really into the full series.

Thanks for the response Magnum. My tastes in the past have always been (and remain) combat flight sims and titles like Steel Fury, SB Pro PE and the Arma series. The CM series never appealed because it looked awkward to play and visually clunky.

Recently though I've gotten completely hooked on GTOS. That led me to take another look at the CM titles. Red Thunder seems to be the only relevant Eastern Front title. I've been reading about and studying that theater of operations for nearly 50 years (yeah, that dates me). So I guess that's my route.

Really the only thing that's clunky and awkward at times is the camera controls, but you get used to them and there's a lot of control schemes to suit your tastes. I do agree that it looks crazy unoptimized on YouTube, but when you play it it isn't nearly as badly flowing.

Got it, and it's very absorbing.
