I might have missed because my life doesn't revolve around this forum, but I saw a community-developed mission builder was launched...

http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/14672-release-simple-3rd-party-mission-builder-bos/#entry234061

I also noticed that Jason chimed in looking to see if the devs can synch up with the guy who built it. A couple questions...

Has anyone used it and is it worth the effort to learn it.

If it was this simple, why would the devs have not done something like this already? And why jump in now to try to coordinate?

I am a little more optimistic about BOS because it shows what the community can do. I am more pessimistic about the devs because they didn't think of doing this.

I did a test.

Easy to install, just extract for some folder, and configure, edit the Config to match with you BoS folder.

Not difficult to set a mission, just select item on menu a place o map, save, open the game in offline mode and play.

Set a intercept mission, but my "mission maker" skill fail in set timed waypoints... blush

At least I get a big He 111 V. smile

Looks interesting, can you create large formations with it? What about ground objects?

Looks like it --- he's even posted source code for it SMB for BoS on GitHub

Now we'll see!

I have to agree with the initial post though...this is a WTF moment (again) regarding the Devs capabilities and intentions if a 3rd party comes out of nowhere and does something they could not do having access to the DNE and BoS code now for years.

Could not come at a better time though....as I had no hope that the FMB would be released before BoM was released and we would have no way to fully test out the limits of the DNE.....now with this SMB....I'm confident the boundary conditions and entity count and playability can be discovered.

I wondered because after seeing Sokols picture above that's what I wanted to see in the campaign when I choose an intercept mission instead of the same three bombers who do the same thing every time, it would be great to come up against a swarm of bombers.

How would the limits of BOS be really much different then ROF ?
Give or take a few things, wouldnt they be pretty much the same ?

I'm guessing it shows that they won't create this kind of fmb (because it could bring the engine to its knees) not that they can't.

Kudos to the coder tho. Hope they dont buy him out to shut it down. Quick, someone set up a mirror!

It's on Github, it's out there for anyone to grab quite easily.

I have a copy, actually two of RoF; but have never done much with it beyond smallish engagements of fewer than 10 A/C. Reading comments from others, there is nothing about RoF and DNE that idicates that it supports the mass formations of A/C characteristic of ...well...The Battle of Stalingrad!!...as an example. The only "test" I've seen to date was of a custom mission by Veteran66 that so slowed play....that the clock in the 109 could actually be seen losing time vs realtime in response to too many entities in play at one time.

That is why with this tool, there is now at least the potential to explore what the boundary conditions are for entities within the active rendering area.

Nope, can't get it to work, aint no javacodergeek, help needed:

- downloaded the zip, unzipped to hard drive (desktop)
- installed java 8
- changed directory to C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data
- double clicked the .bat file
- in google chrome typed 'localhost' in chrome address field

nada

- inserted double slashes (after reading this on bosparser) ie C:\\Program Files (x86)\\1C Game Studios\\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\\data
- double clicked the bat file
- typed 'localhost' into chrome address field

nada

- did a restart, repeated above
- now I got a command screen with a whole heap of scrolling text
- got the network access warning, said yes
- typed localhost into chrome

nada

ideas?

EDIT

OK I am a frickin genius

I looked at the cmd window, and one of the lines says 'tomcat started on port 81' so I typed localhost:81 and it started

Seems to work now...

Not too old to learn new stuff after all!

Hmmm, can only create missions with Luftwaffe aicraft?

EDIT: you have to create your luftwaffe aircraft, save, and then load the mission again, now you will get an option to select country, and you can choose Russia and create the russian aircraft.

Q - Why on servers so few foreigners, I came at different times during the day and at night, they have less demand for the game?

Loft A - Currently we have 20% of the players from the CIS (Russia).
Multiplayer sim, in principle, is not popular because the game is complex, players are adults and not everyone considers himself quite steep for network operations.
~~~~~
And Loft thinks BoS is complex rofl rofl rofl Maybe it is for him wink
I guess that's why he can't let his dev team spend even a week on a real campaign and Jason is stuck trying to find a 3rd party developer to create a campaign. There is a post on the BoS forum by Black Six (I think it was Black Six), a 1CGS dev, who said he spoke this week to Andrew (Loft) trying to convince him to let them develop a real campaign. So the 1CGS employees want to build a real campaign also! How did Loft get to be in charge. Here are these poor 1CGS developers themselves wishing they could turn BoS into a real sim, but Loft won't have it apparently. As he said above, he already thinks its too complicated!
Loft appears to be a wanna be Donkey Kong developer. I think he really is in the wrong business segment.
Hope this SMB turns into something usable, as anything is better than nothing smile Also hoping 1C Company removes Loft from the BoS project. BoS game play couldn't get any worse, so it could only get better with someone else in charge of the creative direction IMO.
Many updates by Lupson to this, it is quite improved already.
- more waypoint commands
- choose position in formations
- choose user made skins
- show both sides on map at once for easier waypoint planning
Yeah, it's not like the good old days of Falcon 4 where you get a beta game that lasts 1 year before the team is disbanded and the project abandoned.
Unless there is a huge change in the speed in which software can be created, or combat flight development teams suddenly atleast triple in size then beta releases are here to stay for todays far more complex flight sims. Its actually a good thing for a combat flight sim to be a WIP progress for many years, adding and improving content.
Only IF the devs of said sim listen to the folks using their beta and take their comments and suggestions onboard. Not that I am saying the devs of other sims dont listen to the people playing their sim *cough*
