Just forked out 100 euro for twelve long stem rosses to be delivered toady. Don't get me wrong my wife is worth everything/penny to me. but what pisses me off. Next week I bet I could have got the same for half that price. Every year I say I wont buy them, My wife would be the first to say its a rip off but I also know deep down she would be Disappointed. Then I feel like a mean ass. so end up paying it. you think after twenty five years I would have copped on. LoL Its the same with restaurants and hotels here in Ireland they bump up the prices for valentines day. Do the florists/restaurants/hotels in your country's do the same guys. Fair enough they have to make a living but most of the above doubles in price.

I have to admit that I don't usually look at long stem rose prices except at Valentine's day, so I don't know if they hike them up or not, but it wouldn't surprise me. It seems like a ripoff, but then if they are swamped that day, and maybe even have to hire extra help, it might increase their costs.
Plus, as they say, the price is whatever the market can bear, so if we're paying, that's the value I guess.

I don't do flowers. For a better splurge item, go with Godiva chocolate. There's a store, but I order online. Even comes in a styrofoam cooler with freezer packs. This year I went with a spa afternoon, but we usually don't make too big a deal. Bottle of wine, a movie and the kids out of the house makes a good date night.

I really don't have anything to add to this conversation, except that I live in a place where there's not such thing as Valentines Day. Get green with envy, you suckers!
When you're feeling sad, just remember that somewhere in the world, there's someone pushing a door that says "pull".

I better not get something that dies in a few days. Tomorrow is just another day to get your hard earned cash into the register at stores, since it's been roughly two months since any major shopping has occured.

Dozen roses in Lidl here £5. Wife is allergic to flowers, perfume and chocolate. Wonder how much I have saved in 34 years of (mainly happy) marriage. She really deserves a medal for putting up with this curmudgeonly old scroat for so long, and another one for raising 4 wonderful children despite my inept attempts at parenthood.

My wife is great about this sort of thing. I love her to pieces, and we have been married 32 years, so at this point we don't really need expensive affirmations. For Christmas and Valentines Day we usually pick a thing we both want and treat ourselves to that. For Christmas this year it was some landscaping for a garden we are building around our fire pit. For tonight we have a reservation at a restaurant that we both really like. I was a bit more on top of my game than usual and got my reservation in a few weeks ago.

I'm glad my wife doesn't buy into marketed things like Valentines Day.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

LOL@ Jayhawk.
+1 on the Godiva chocolate! Or, alternately, those Reece's peanut butter cup minis (the ones not individually wrapped).
Early in our marriage I cured the wife of roses (we've been married 22 years). One Valentine's day I suprised her by waiting, in nude repose on the bed, for her.
"What are you doing with a rose in your mouth?" she asked, trying not to laugh. "I'm not kinky enough to put it between my ass cheeks," I responded as deadpan as I could manage.
To this day she can't look at a single rose in a vase without snickering, and so I turned what should be a symbol of everlasting love into a comedy prop for an inside joke.
