Yep, got question about the game, post them here.
Friendly discussion about the game.
I do hope this ends the 'tension' among members here at SimHqs.

Gambit will be moderating this forum also.

Wow, just noticed, not a single 'tip' in several months...that will not do (most of these courtesy the incredibly helpful Sokol1).

GET RID OF THE ARCADE STYLE HUD (BUT KEEP IN GAME MAP)

H - turn off HUD
O - show in flight map
I - toggle your aircraft position on/off on the map

AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF THE HUD AT MISSION START

Remap the P key to toggle the HUD. That way when you hit P for pause, you will also turn off the HUD

ALAN GREY'S KEYBOARD COMMAND LIST

USING GUNNER POSITIONS

Ctrl C to move to gunner position
T to get aim assist
SHIFT T centers your view over the gunsight
Shift C change waist gunners left and right side
Mouse to aim
Left mouse button to fire
Alt R to reload (if available)

IDENTIFYING RUSSIAN FROM GERMAN FIGHTERS

http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/14229-spotting-and-identifying-russian-fighters/?p=224882

SETTING A CUSTOM COCKPIT VIEW

Use the keys bellow to recenter the gunsight position:

Insert = Move pilot head forward
Home = Move pilot head backward
Page up = Move pilot head up
Page down = Move pilot head down
Delete = Move pilot head left
End = Move pilot head right

Wen done press F10 to save the new position.

"F10 = Save current corrections in head snap position"

To avoid this "accident" again, remap F-10 for Alt+F10, so will not save by chance some unwanted position.

COCKPIT REFERENCE CARDS

http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/6670-cockpit-glance-reference-cards/

STOP TEAM KILLING SWINE TAKING OVER YOUR GUNNER POSITION AND SHOOTING YOU DOWN

In bombers, as soon as you enter the cockpit in multiplayer hit ESC
Select GUNNER STATIONS, click on box on top to lock turret position (you see a RED padlock)
Now that little pimply fool who gets his kicks shooting down bombers from the inside, is SOOL.

TAXIING IN CIRCLES?

COCONUTS TIPS

In the replay viewer, in external cameras, you can rotate the view using the mouse, but only when the HUD is hidden (press H). You can also use the numeric keys, but not when the time bar is visible. The time bar is made visible whenever you move the mouse while the hud is visible. It disappears after a few seconds if you don't move the mouse.

You can greatly improve the visuals of the terrain with little or no performance impact by editing a file, terrain.ini. See http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/1250...-g/#entry194292 for details.

You can disable motion blur when moving the head by disabling "cinematics" in the camera options.

The calm weather landing mission starts you with 100% fuel by default, which makes landing more difficult. If you are finding it hard to land smoothly, try with 50% fuel.

Good to know for people coming from War Thunder: unlike that game, BOS allows you to record free flight sessions. Simply press ctrl+r. Useful when practicing landing to see what you did wrong.

STUKA SIREN AND DIVE BRAKES TOGETHER

Map the same key (or button) used "AirBrakes on/off (Stuka dive brake) for "Attack Siren on/off".

So extend the dive brakes engage the "Jerico's Trumpet", raise the dived brakes stop. In this case "Less keys is better".

To make the gunner stations more accessible I change this for:

R - move for gunner (s) position (and back to pilot, in cycle)
T - to get aim assist (or take control over the gun)
Y - centers you view over the gunsight
U = move for 2nd/3rd gunner position in same station (He 111 rear to from belly station, Pe-2 from belly to right/left station).

This allow you tip fast RTY, and are read to shoot the bandit. wink

For reload the MG's I use middle mouse button (this command don't have use in fighters unless one are playing with unlimited ammo), so only need move the index finger to reload. smile

Other simplifications:

J = Landing lights
K = Navigation lights
L = cockpit lights (on some planes is need cycle 3 positions).

F = flap up
V = flap down

The idea is avoid modifier keys (Alt, Ctrl, Shift) as possible, but to avoid "accidents" I use Alt+G on landing gear, because happen in on one Veteran66 mission accidentally hit (G) trying turn on the HUD (H) to see mission reports, and use Alt+E to turn on/off engine(s). In these cases the Alt has a function of security switch.

Stealing an idea from Sokol1...

AUTOMATICALLY TELL GUNNERS TO ENGAGE

BoS gunners are so dumb you need to tell them to fire at the enemy (right alt 1). Deadly if you forget.

To do it automatically, map the G GEAR key to gunner FIRE AT WILL.

That way when you bring your wheels up they will be combat ready and wheels down they will stand down!

I'm having trouble getting the HE-111s to drop all bombs on a single pass. I can get them to drop one each and while I admire their confidence I'd rather have them dump the whole lot and make a mess out of that rail yard. Anyone got any tips?

I've figured out that you cannot use large single formations and multiple 3-plane formations seems to work ok. You cannot order a trail formation for the bomb run (how you setup a JU-87 attack without trail is beyond me) although that seems to be the default take off formation so a wedge seems to be the way to go. Setting spread to safe seems to work fine although I cannot see much difference with the dense formation.

I want to setup a 36 bomber formation attacking a town, supply depot or a rail yard. The player flies as a wingman so you get to enjoy some formation flying. The player starts on the parking or runway while most of the rest of the formation is already in the air, climbing. The timings are a bit hard to get exactly right but I'll figure it out.

Charlie, if you go into Settings, Key Control, Weapon Control, you can enter a keyboard command to 'toggle bombs mode'. I think this is what you're looking for.
You can also 'toggle rockets mode' allowing you to loose different numbers of rockets in a salvo.

Thanks, I just realised that I kind of left out a key bit of information in my post. I'm working in the full mission builder and these are AI bombers we are talking about. I was basically looking for some option to check which would state something like "Attack with weapon"-> Bombs "Salvo"-> All. Like you have in DCS.

Even so, thanks for the bombs mode/rocket mode tip. I've been manually releasing the full stick one bomb at the time up til now.

If you are talking about getting the other AI bombers to drop their bombs, this was bugged until the latest patch, but supposedly has been fixed with a workaround now - haven't tested it myself. Use the radio command 'do like me'.

35. AI bombers should now correctly drop the bombs after the Do Like Me command;

However I guess you have to be leading the formation, not part of it, for this to work?

I am thinking for BOS SP, it always considers the player plane the leader of the flight...

That is something, for campaign flying, I would really like to see changed.

However I could be wrong and someone please correct me if I am.
