Wife roasted some Brussels Sprouts in a butter sauce in the oven to go along with our beef tips over noodle dinner.

I am not a fan of Brussels Sprouts but those were actually pretty good.

I never understood the hate for brussels sprouts.

Venison with home-made Sptzle, brussels sprouts and a fine sauce.... yummy!

The hate? Maybe because they have both the flavor and texture of wet wads of toilet paper?

Oh, and any food that you won't eat without a sauce of some type is de facto lousy. It should be good without sauce and just better WITH sauce.

As someone who ate many brussels sprouts with no sauce growing up, I can attest that while there are more vile planets that can be consumed, they are generally not sold at stores.

I also don't like eggplants and okra stewed in tomato sauce.

Fried okra is okay.

I don't like to eat slimy food.

I am given to understand that brussels sprouts require
frost before they taste any good. They are an autumn
plant which responds to frost by manufacturing sugars
as antifreeze to preserve their foliage over the winter.
This is why they have been a favoured food for christmas
dinner in northern countries. If they are grown in regions
that don't get frost, such as for instance California,
which supplies much of the veggies for the US, or if they
are harvested too early, they just taste bitter. Here on the
rain coast, much of the veggies for western Canada are grown,
and the absence of frost often plagues the local sprouts as
well. It would seem an opportunity for farmers in the north
centre of the continent, but they seem too busy with grains
and oil seeds, which are probably a much bigger and more
reliable market.

I don't know much about Brussels sprouts so that's interesting, PV1.

It's the same with turnip/swede, they are better after a bit of frost too.

Sprouts, stoved with a little butter, bacon bits and some chopped nuts, Mmmmm Lekker!

Edit: I have a walking stick made out of the stalk from a sprout plant, it is silver mounted and hollowed out to contain a glass flask for whisky/brandy, the handle is also hollowed out to hold the glass, It belonged to my great grandfather.

I don't like turnips and those beets that have been pickled in red color.

Every so often I can stand a few slices of raw red radish in my salad as long as I have a ton of red wine vinegar to put on it.

there are many sorts of beets, last week we had a lovely selection of them which we roasted with carrots onions and potatos along with a nice leg of lamb.

Also nice is aardpeer (jerusalem artichoke) which we also roasted along with the other root vegies.

Got hungry the other night...

The "wine" is just REAL (not from concentrate) concord grape juice. Big FAT center cut pork chop, fresh broccoli and cauliflower with a baked potato. Yummmmmm.

The view's not bad either.

That looks good but I would still be hungry after I eat that.

That would be an appetizer for me.

Yes, the pic is a small portion. I used three 8 oz tuna steaks for 5 servings on lettuce. Quite filling!
