Wow, I could understand the freakout if there was a sonic boom involved but otherwise just some drama queens...

That's it I want off of this world. Since when did people become such wienies? Since we changed the national anthem to: O'er the land of the free, better save than sorry.

I just about pooped my pants in excitement when a common C-130 flew over town one day. I'd be in heaven if we had regular military traffic in the area Its only cool for a little while. The first time F18's (or anything like that) are buzzing around landing at the local air station around midnight, well it gets old. But F18's off the deck going crazy fast is a freaky sound if not ready for it or know its coming. Remember being outside of some little town in Iraq when buzzed at night by what was probably a Marine Hornet going to stupid fast and low. About crapped my self. But that is not what happened here.

You get used to anything and it becomes background noise. A childhood friend had train tracks so close to his house that you could just about stick a broom out of a window and hit the train. For about a year of the time I was stationed at Ft Bragg, I lived in old wooden barracks in "Old Division." For those not familiar with Ft Bragg, Old Division is maybe 1/2 mile from the end of the main runway at Pope AFB. Day & night, dozens of C130s, C141s, and the occasional C5 flew over at maybe 1000' AGL. Within 2 weeks you didn't even hear them anymore, not even when the 82d airborne went on a mass tactical jump at 0200 and those suckers went over every minute for what seemed like an hour.

The old joke is sometimes reputed to be a true story: the couple who had a bedroom right beside the railroad (sometimes the El in New York or anywhere else they existed) and a train would go by at exactly the same time in the middle of the night for thirty some odd years, until the route was retired. First night it didn't run they both wake up at the moment it should have gone by, saying "what was that?".

"How often do those trains go by?" "So often you'll hardly notice."

Don't be so hard on Berkl... Berlkenians? When I was a kid it was usual for Mirages to pass low over the town, as kind of salute to the family of a Mirage aviator that died in the Falklands war. People ultimately thought it was too much of a hassle to hear jets once every seven months and they ended up that canceling those passes.
When you're feeling sad, just remember that somewhere in the world, there's someone pushing a door that says "pull".
