Wow, I could understand the freakout if there was a sonic boom involved but otherwise just some drama queens...

Its only cool for a little while. The first time F18's (or anything like that) are buzzing around landing at the local air station around midnight, well it gets old.

But F18's off the deck going crazy fast is a freaky sound if not ready for it or know its coming. Remember being outside of some little town in Iraq when buzzed at night by what was probably a Marine Hornet going to stupid fast and low. About crapped my self. But that is not what happened here.

You get used to anything and it becomes background noise. A childhood friend had train tracks so close to his house that you could just about stick a broom out of a window and hit the train. For about a year of the time I was stationed at Ft Bragg, I lived in old wooden barracks in "Old Division." For those not familiar with Ft Bragg, Old Division is maybe 1/2 mile from the end of the main runway at Pope AFB. Day & night, dozens of C130s, C141s, and the occasional C5 flew over at maybe 1000' AGL. Within 2 weeks you didn't even hear them anymore, not even when the 82d airborne went on a mass tactical jump at 0200 and those suckers went over every minute for what seemed like an hour.

While it looks like everything was on the up and up, it seems reasonable to me to ask questions. I don't like the idea of Navy professionals using very expensive equipment and manpower just for teh lulz (though I surely would have done the same thing if I were in the pilot's position and could get away with it).

I'm also a little biased because, cool as it was at first, I've come to loathe the two weeks in the summer around the the time of EAA Airventure where there are jet fighters flying low over my house and workplace all day. I like the more unique vintage stuff flying by though.

The old joke is sometimes reputed to be a true story:
the couple who had a bedroom right beside the railroad
(sometimes the El in New York or anywhere else they
existed) and a train would go by at exactly the same
time in the middle of the night for thirty some odd
years, until the route was retired. First night it
didn't run they both wake up at the moment it should
have gone by, saying "what was that?".

"How often do those trains go by?"
"So often you'll hardly notice."

One of my favorite bits from the BB film.

Vienna, 2nd rock left.
If he was cleared for 2500' and not on burner he should get away with it.

Used to work in the 41st Floor of an office tower next to the Danube river herein Vienna That's maybe 150 Meters or so. Not just once saw a jet at eye level because they cross the city over the river, for safety reasons. Loved it.

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

We get those dickheads near our airport all the time calling in because of the jet noise. Base was there since the 50's, pretty sure you knew there would be jet noise when you bought your house...

"Norman" is most likely not just a "normal" dickhead, but a greedy one, too: property near an airport or other such facilities that generate a high level of noise usually is comparably cheap; now if "Norman" could get the council to close the airfield, the value of his property would rise considerably.

Don't be so hard on Berkl... Berlkenians?

When I was a kid it was usual for Mirages to pass low over the town, as kind of salute to the family of a Mirage aviator that died in the Falklands war. People ultimately thought it was too much of a hassle to hear jets once every seven months and they ended up that canceling those passes. banghead

When you're feeling sad, just remember that somewhere in the world, there's someone pushing a door that says "pull".
