I've been playing Flight Simulator since the very first version, have FSX installed on my five-year old PC, and with it about $600 worth of add-ons, including all the top brands like REX, ORBX, Carenado, and Burkherd Renk's MyTraffic X. I'm running it at 1920 X 1200, and have the sliders pushed almost all the way to the right. It's beautiful. But it doesn't hold a candle to P3D v2.4 with only ORBX Global Base installed.
P3D v2 is my first time with P3D. I never tried version 1. Perhaps the difference is running the sim at 3840 X 2160. I don't know. All I know is it's beyond beautiful. It's drop-dead gorgeous. Would it look this good on my five-year old PC? I don't know. Would FSX look even better at 3840 X 2160. I don't know and I don't feel compelled to find out. P3D v2.4 is amazing. All I need now is Renk's MyTraffic X 5.4C. It is supposed to be compatible with P3D v2.If you haven't tried it because you are long devoted to FSX like I was, break out and go for it. Try P3D v2. It not only looks better, it runs better.

P3D v2 is awesome - I replaced FSX with P3D v2 and although I gave FSX SE a try, P3D is so superior that there is no turning back, and when you add all the add ons and flyables, it becomes the best flight sim there is. Agreed. I can't go back, and don't see the need for both especially since all but one of my ORBX add-ons will work with P3D V2. I don't have to buy them a second time. I like that P3D taxes the GPU more than the CPU. I really like that no matter how high your resolution and slow your fps, no more screen tearing and no stuttering.

What is FSX SE? Does that stand for "Steam Edition?" I won't touch Steam. I hate it. I'm focusing on games that are not part of Steam. Another reason for loving P3D. Oops! I know... P3D is not a "game." It's flight instruction for people like me who have purchased the academic license.

I can't get enough of this sim. It looks so beautiful in 3840 x 2160. I was just flying around Shanghai, China, Bogota, Colombia, and Capetown, South Africa. I even found Robben Island where Mandela was imprisoned. I've been to all three cities in real life (including Robben Island) and wanted to check them out on P3D v.2.4. This sim is beautiful with only ORBX Global added. You don't need any other scenery packs like you do with FSX.

P3D is where I spend most of my time - everybody I know has either FSX or P3D installed.
I started to explore California using photoreal terrain, and I have been doing this, exploring areas since 2007, FSX was great but P3D made it an even better experience.
P3D v2.5 needs a new clean install, going to make a full backup of my 2.4 install and this week I´ll update, the only and only thing I like in DCSW better than in P3D is the updater, I hope LM does something similar, it will make our life much easier.

I hadn't heard about 2.5. Why go through the trouble of uninstalling 2.4 (and ORBX Global) to do a clean install of 2.5? What if ORBX Global doesn't work with 2.5? I hate constant updates, which is what I actually dislike about DCS. Isn't P3D v.2.4 already perfect? What is so dramatically different or critical that anyone would want to do a clean install of 2.5? I won't do it just to have the latest thing. That's why I don't mess with Apple cellphones. Every six months buy THE new one? LOL. No way. My Droid Razer MAXX updates the op system automatically. At least DCS basically does the upgrade for you. Clean install for P3D v.2.5 when 2.4 is so perfect? No way. The reason would have to be huge, gigantic, total game changing. I won't do it for a couple of tweaks to some airport or land mass I never visit anyway.

I installed 2.5 last Thursday, mainly because I wanted to get to the fixes and enhancements to Simdirector. I like the measurement tool, but would still like to see angular measurement. It would be nice to type in an offset, in polar coordinates, to place objects.
Anyway, I installed Global Base and Vector which do work. However, the object flow dll cause the sim to crash -- there is an option when the sim is loading concerning this: a) run once, b) don't run. Select a, and you'll get a crash (at least I did), select b) and it will run without object flow.
I'm also running Opus FSI. Oh, the other thing I like is that I'm not seeing those crazy vertical clouds anymore.
I'm running this on an ACER 28" 4k display with a GTX 980 (at Plainsman's recommendation, thank you) and it's absolutely beautiful.

Anyone know if the A2A B17 and B377 will work with this?

That's tough for me to say. For 2.4, I have a handful of screenshots and many of those are of the Aerosoft F-14A over water or with a carrier. I moved to 2.5 and upgraded my display and graphics card the next day. So, the real dramatic difference was going from 1920x1200 to 3840 x 2160 and moving many of the sliders all the way to the right. One of the things that REALLY got my attention was sitting on the deck of the Eisenhower in stormy weather and seeing the ocean come to life. Incredible. Again, though, this could be because I'm able to drag all those sliders over to the right. I'll do some experimenting tonight. In Simdirector, I noticed the addition of weapons and combat specific AI and several other military objects like BMPs, URALs, T-72, SA-2 launchers, ect. I'm not entirely sure if these objects came from 2.5 or from the Aerosoft F-14 installation. Seems like I would have noticed them before though -- the object catalog looks MUCH larger. There are also hooks for weapons control in the controller setup. I've been wanting to re-create some of the Black Aces missions that I read about in "Black Aces High". The installation I have now seems to make this an attainable goal. Sorry this is such a flaky reply -- I should have taken better note of the differences and what each installer added to the mix.

Wow! How do you sit on the deck of the Eisenhower? Does that come with P3D 2.4? Or is it part of the Aerosoft add-on plane? Search for Javier's Nimitz for FSX. This is one of the best freeware packages I've ever seen. The Aerosoft F-14 comes with the Kitty Hawk, but it's not as good (IMHO) as Javier's work. With the F-14, there are several flights (not missions) that start on the carrier. If you haven't been landing on the carrier, you might not want to start with the F-14. The F-18C or T-45C would be good. http://indiafoxtecho.blogspot.com/2009/06/javier-fernandez-releases-his-nimitz.html I don't know if they're still there or not, but there used to be a few carrier missions with stock FSX:Acceleration. I can upload a couple for 2.5 that I've built.

What kind of framerate do you guys get in P3D 2.5 with REX and Orbx and A2A or RealAir planes?
I've not made the jump from FSX yet because it works well enough for me in DX10Fixer and since with P3D you have to buy a new version whenever it moves to the next major version (i.e. v2.0 owners will need to buy 3.0), so I've been waiting for P3D to develop some features worth upgrading to besides cockpit and cloud shadows...
One thing that would get me off the fence would be framerate, is that much better in P3D with REX + ORBX + deep systems payware aircraft compared to similar FSX?

Didn't you have to do that with FS? FSX just happens to be the last one, so yeah, no more upgrade cost! Gotta tell you though, if you have frame rate problems in FSX, don't move to P3D. Personally I think that yes, P3D is better (and definitely will be a LOT better in the future) but if you're happy with FSX and the awesomeness of DX10Fixer ( ) you can afford to wait. You can always try it out at no cost. There's no rush.
