So, how are you guys on the East coast surviving this monster storm? Usually, we in northern Michigan get quite a bit of snow, but it appears it's not our turn. Just wondering how bad it really got, where people here live...... 2-3 feet at a time, is a lot to deal with

Completely disappointed. They were calling for 12-18 inches in southern NJ and we got a dusting. Had to come to work.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

As usual, the weather people are completely worthless idiots. They hype it up when its a slow newsday. Snowmaggedon resulted in less than 5 inches.
I can see these idiots being wrong if the prediction is a few days in advanced...but when they are predicting major snowfall to start at 9 pm and its already 7 pm....how wrong can you be.

But further north is being hammered.
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

On Cape Cod the wind has been blowing a steady 35 to 45 mph for the last 18 hours, with some impressive gusting too. It's hard to judge just how much snow we've gotten. Officially, it's probably about 12 inches so far, but it's hard to judge looking out the window, with all the drifting. Thankfully, we still have power, heat, DSL, food, and beer. No school again tomorrow for my 8 year old son. He's psyched of course. Here the storm is supposed to keep going for another 18 hours. (I hope I don't run outta beer. ) Dave

I never understood why there are three items everyone rushes out to get before a storm event: Milk, Eggs, and Bread.
Did I miss some super disaster preparedness class that determined that French toast is the ultimate survival meal?
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."

Interesting, getting real eye witness reports. Yeah, it might be going further north than they predicted. 5" !!! We get 5 inches once a week, all winter long, usually. This winter has been very easy on us. Unlike last winter. Lucky, cause my snow blower starter motor has just blown it's gear teeth. Not looking forward to replacing it now, when it's this cold, and hate to heat the entire garage (pole barn) just to fix a small part. Takes hours, and a lot of kero. Anything above 6" I can't plow with my small 20hp tractor. And I have a circle drive and parking lot to do. 2-3 feet would about kill me right now.......glad it missed most people. That's a lot of snow at once, for us in the States....I guess you Zanuck's are used to it We're a little 'soft' down here But like Mark said, in another thread, anything is better than 115F, and 98% humidity. Anything. I can't take heat like that. And you can't carry an A/C on your back. I can always put on another layer of warm cloths. But 3' of snow at once, we take that off 10" at a time, with a 8hp snow blower. "with a functional starter motor gear"....lol.....even then, it's hard. It also keeps you in shape Thanks for the reports. I don't think it's over, yet.

Did I miss some super disaster preparedness class that determined that French toast is the ultimate survival meal? Because milk spoils fast, like eggs. Bread is necessary for almost any meal, and it too, spoils in a few days if you don't freeze it. And when the electricity goes out, it's tough to keep it fresh, if it warms up outside. Not sure really. We keep 2 weeks of food on hand all the time, cause the nearest city, major stores, are 50 miles away, and gas is money. We don't shop often, never small 'local' stores, bread is over $4.00 a loaf here, they gouge you. Sad, cause it hurts the people without the money, or ability, to travel. Greed. We don't drink milk, we get eggs from the Amish down the road, and we freeze bread. Not a problem, if you think ahead. We buy in bulk. I fill the back of that Hummer, every time we go.

we just had gusty wind and a dusting of snow here in Asheville, thanks to the Appalachian Mountains in the far western end of North Carolina. Much of that range is over 3,500 feet and is a weather changer.

I always like how they hype up these east coast storms now on the news, just crazy over hyped. And then usually the snowfall is hardly close to what they are predicting. They have even started to do this around by me, but with less national coverage.

I'd say we got over 2 feet at the Jetport in Portland, ME, and a little less where I live about 10-12 miles inland. The drifting was crazy, I had to bust out through a drift quite a bit higher than the good of my truck when leaving for work at 0415 today. Yesterday when I left work around 1330 most of the major roads were bad enough that I was glad I'd put my tire chains on when I got to work at 0300 yesterday. It was still snowing & blowing like crazy when I got home around 1500, I wanted to go snowshoeing so badly but I'd only gotten 2.5 hours sleep the night before so I hit the recliner instead. This afternoon it's shoveling and then snowshoeing.

That's interesting about the 'snowshoeing'.
I've got about 25 acres in back, and it's got some real wide 4-5' trails, we walk the dog every day. Even in winter. I snow blow...or plow, the entire thing, to make it easier.
I wonder if it'd be easier to just 'snowshoe' the trip......avoid the work of plowing and snow blowing. Just thinking.....
Cause once you don't clear the trails, then you can't clear the snow....it gets too deep and freezes on the bottom. And it's very hilly terrain, so plowing or snow blowing up hill is difficult, if the snow is real deep.
"Snowshoeing"....very interesting....

BTW...Hag, if your trying to tell us it doesn't snow in Texas, then you don't live in Texas....lol...
