A while back I was contacted by a team of guys that wanted to help (more like convince) Damon Slye to remake RB3D into something... but without revamping the whole graphics engine, and campaign manager, it was going nowhere fast. It was great for it's time, a lot of fun and added depth for what it could be. No doubt a well paved road to help get us here. But at this point, with all the massive advancements in WOFF and the absolutely lovely and breathtaking scenery, I wouldn't dare go back to it but for only a smile from the memories. and now... back to your regular scheduled thread.. LOL! OvS PS... yes Olham, I will be reworking the OAW very soon. I'm waiting on some improvements I've asked Pol to make to the model. No timeline from him or me. It's a play as we go kinda thing. 2 more weeks..

Great shots Olham, specially the second!
WOFF to me, well, is like being in the right place at the right moment. I have very happy memories of some flight sims, specially some Lucasarts and Microprose ones (you possibly remember and love too), but for a guy in his late thirties like me, like Sinnead O´Connor sang in the 80s,...Nothing compares to you. And as OvStachel said, we are living it, enjoying it, right here right now. We will remember this some time in the future with nostalgia.

High over the Front
|
Early afternoon patrol with J11 April 25, 1917. The weather has been very nice after a crappy first half of the month. Near the front we run into a group of Fee's from 20 squadron trying to get home. Afraid they will be at least one short as he falls in flames shedding parts as he goes. However, in a bit of classic stupidity in my haste to get back in the action I hoick a turn IN FRONT of the Fee's instead of diving thru their formation, and his fellow observers quickly shoot me up. Yes my prop is not moving...hmmm. That is him going down in the background. In a salute to the Damage Model I guess I can see why the engine is not working with the British added lead. Yes I am wounded too. Note the bullet holes around my cockpit. Ouch it hurts. The war continues.

Hey, good you survived that glide show, Duke! And some hospital time in this gray weather isn't all too bad, if you have no pain. I hope all essential parts are still intact, mein Herr - we need you over the lines as soon as possible.

With engine damage, it might be a good idea to shut it off. You never know what is all hit, and if the fuel pipe should be leaking, you may just be quick enough doing so, to prevent a fire.
The great MvR himself had a fuel leak - strong enough to cause a white vapour trail behind his diving Albatros - and he expected the well-known "Voump!" noice, when the stuff ignites. We would have never heard too much of him then. He would have burnt. But he managed to shut the engine off quickly, and lived.

The 3 Albatros with the long shadows and sun behind picture is super Olham, a high res one would be a good desktop background Thank you, Pol - that is exactly what I did with it.

Least my nurse is cute. I could tell you about my first sponge bath but this is a family friendly forum!
Ah, I'm reminded of when Dorothea Dix started the Army Nursing Service during the US Civil War. She advertised for female candidates "past 30 years of age, healthy, plain almost to repulsion in dress and devoid of personal attractions." Sound like things are better in the Vaterland!

Gene Dimarco (sp?) flying in a replica. Fire breaks out just below the back of the port mg iirc. Pretty scary stuff. I wonder what fire extinguishers were like in those days, small enough to fit in a cockpit? RS

Never seen that video, Sid - do you have a link? Are you sure it wasn't a "stunt fire" for an airshow?
Back in the Great War, they didn't have fire extinguishers - they would have burned or jumped to their death.

I've seen one video with Gene deMarco, where a part of his Camel's engine cowling was coming off, and got stuck in the wing struts. He made a safe landing with it.
