When the campaign starts going your way, the carrier battle group will move, putting them closer toward enemy territory so they can launch sorties against enemy air defences, armor, and bases.
I've noticed that Ospreys can fly from land bases and land on carriers and then take off from carriers on missions.
I would love to see Harriers do the same.
How come Red sides doesn't have any VStol?
Maybe some Yak-36 and Yak-38 and a handful of newer Yak-141?
I haven't changed such things, so it's the same in this test version. jet's flight model is very simple, vertical take off doesn't implemented in the game. and Ospreys flying like helicopters, not planes.
The Harrier and Yaks landing on the carrier may not be doable but how about moving the carrier fleets and have them advance and retreat as necessary just like the ground units?
That should be doable, isn't it?
The algorithm for the ground units to advance and retreats should work for carrier groups too, wouldn't it?
The only difference between ground units and carrier groups is just how the objects are modeled but the ground terrain and the sea terrain are the same thing.
compare carrier with ground unit same as compare FARP with helicopter. only reason why fleet is not moving anywhere - keysites/waypoints systems can't deal with moving air base. also as you noticed - ground vehicles moving only by routes (roads mostly) and has no any freedom. boats should use aircraft's style of movement - waypoints generating in real time. some action on the sea side will be great of course, but a lot of major changes required for that.
If anything, my present problem with the ships is that they appear to move while being static; the wakes they generate are pretty unconvincing, IMO, and if they were removed then it would at least accurately reflect their immobility as Keysites. Having said that, I do agree that it'd be pretty damn cool - just a pain to implement.
