Hi,

After a long time no flying I came back (Installed 4.12.2 and HSFX 7.0.3) I am using History + Expert mode and while programming my joystick I found something odd, the mixture settings for some fighters are only 100% and 120%. The B-17 can decrease mixture below 100%. I remember the A6M stock could go below 100%. Any advise or explanation?

Thanks.

That happens because that kind of carburetor fitted on that plane does have an automatic mixture control and only for take-off the pilot is allowed to manually enrich mixture above 100%.

More in detail, IL-2 models four kinds of fuel systems as follows:

Inline Suction
Carburetor
Injector
Float carburetor

this, together with provision for a "Mixer Type" which can be:

Generic
Rolls-Royce Automatic
NII Carburetor @ Manifold Pressure Limits

and availability to the pilot of a "command for mixture", allows to model a wide range of fuel systems, combining these various options in the flight model, from full manual control to fully automatic.

So the old model where you need to adjust mixture manually according to altitude was wrong?

Thanks Greybeard.

Not wrong. Just not always needed. Many of the Soviet planes continued to require manual mixture control while flying. Most however didn't use it, the planes had automatic mixture control. Even the early Merlins had it. Some only required "full rich" for engine start and takeoff, after that it was hands-off. Some planes in the game still feature manual mixture control, such as the Brewster Buffalo.
