FWIW: More of the same as above.

Regarding the competition:

Intel reported 43 Arc GPU drivers issues from one Gamers Nexus review alone

In brief, Intel GPU drivers have many issues that probably will take months to solve. This was expected by some 3'd party reviewers.

On the positive side, Intel admits the issues and lauds the reviewer for finding them. Moreover, Intel frankly admits they are still learning how to make GPU drivers. Good for Intel. thumbsup

Meantime, one might wait until the drivers are fixed and the Intel GPUs are given praise in 3'd party reviews before buying an Intel GPU.

Several "leaked" test results in different articles -- nominally testing Engineering Samples.

We're close to actual launch. So, "leaks and rumors" are less interesting now (versus weeks ago).

AMD & NVIDIA Partners Ready To Offer More Brutal Price Cuts On GPUs In September, Current Cuts Not Moving Inventory As Expected

... the price cuts will far exceed the previous efforts, which can be better to alleviate cost pressures.

there are also some major price cuts expected by the end of this month so don't be shocked if those RTX 3090s drop below $1000 US in a few weeks.

Later today, AMD will presumably make an official "reveal" of some upcoming Next Generation Hardware. CPUs will be the main topic, it is said.

Some of that CPU hardware is expected to be on sale next month -- and some may be released much later this year -- and some in early 2023.

AMD made its presentation on the new Zen 4 CPUs:

Quote
AMD Ryzen 7000 “Zen4” desktop series launch September 27th, Ryzen 9 7950X for 699 USD

According to AMD, the flagship Zen4 desktop CPU with 16 cores and 32-threads will boost up to 5.7 GHz, and it will cost 699 USD. Meanwhile, Ryzen 9 7900X with 12 cores and 24 threads and boost up to 5.6 GHz will retail at 549 USD.

AMD is also unveiling 8-core Ryzen 7 7700X for 399 USD and Ryzen 5 7600X at 299 USD. All four CPUs are to launch on September 27th. These are the only CPUs AMD is announcing today.

the chips will snap into new Socket AM5 motherboards that AMD says it will support until 2025+.

The attached images show the "official" numbers for price/performance. Third party testing will be reported in September.

Missing is the R7 7800X. I assume that will be a special gaming CPU -- I'm only guessing. I'll wait for that one to release before deciding.

AMD shows off Radeon RX 7000 graphics card with RDNA3 architecture

During the live demo, AMD CEO confirmed that a Radeon 7000 is currently running at AMD labs, and its performance looks ‘absolutely wonderful’. She also reaffirms previous claims that upcoming architecture will provide 50% performance per watt uplift over RDNA2.

The company did not reveal the launch date of the new GPU series, but Lisa Su reassured the new architecture will be ready later this year.

AMD announces EXPO technology for DDR5 memory overclocking

AMD Extended Profiles for Overclocking (EXPO) is an alternative technology to Intel XMP 3.0. The EXPO technology will enable one click DDR5 overclocking for AM5 builds and new Ryzen 7000 desktop series. Gamers using this technology should expect up to 11% better performance at 1080p resolution and lower latency to around 63 nanoseconds.

AMD’s 5nm Zen 4 CPUs Including Ryzen 7000 Not To Be Hindered By Supply Constraints, AM5 Socket To Be Supported Through & Beyond 2025

The red team acknowledged that while previous products on the 7nm process node saw supply constraints at launch, that won't be the case with their 5nm products and as such, the Ryzen 7000 CPU lineup will be available plenty.

"We do expect AM4 and AM5 to coexist for quite some time," Lisa Su tells us. "You should expect that, like with AM4, we'll build out the entire AM5 stack, but it will it will take some time to build out and we want to make sure the cost points are right, as always."

As expected, the Zen 4 CPUs will feature an RDNA 2 GPU core featured within the IOD and fabricated on a 6nm process node.

The GPUs inside every Ryzen 7000 will usually be for office-work and very-light gaming. There will also be APUs (like R5-5600G currently) that handle 1080p gaming decently.

As a gamer, this is the rumor I've been waiting for:

Quote
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D & Ryzen 7 7800X3D Zen 4 V-Cache CPUs Rumored To Debut at CES 2023

if AMD goes with the existing 64 MB SRAM (3D V-Cache) stack, we will get up to 104 MB cache on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, up to 140 MB cache on the Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and a whopping 144 MB of cache on the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. That's a 2.6x increase over Ryzen 7 7700X, an 85% increase over the 7900X, and an 80% increase over the Ryzen 9 7950X. More importantly, it looks like AMD reserved the 7800X SKU for the 3D variation.

With 3D V-Cache, we can see an additional 10-15% gain across various [Game] titles on average.

Downside is the 4 months of extra waiting. If true, I'll probably build my system with a "placeholder" CPU -- probably R5 7600X (or G if available).

AMD confirms Ryzen 7000 memory ‘sweet spot’ is DDR5-6000

Robert Hallock, Technical Marketing Manager for AMD, confirmed on official Discord channel what would be the best memory configuration for Ryzen 7000 series.

For Ryzen 7000 series, the best choice for DDR5 memory would be 6000 MT/s. By sweet spot, Hallock understands the best cost, stability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Furthermore, users should look for two module kits because four, although supported, will make it hard for signal routing to reach integrity, compromising the maximum performance.

If Robert’s words are to be considered, users should not modify FCLK and leave it on AUTO. He notes that for Ryzen 7000 series the 1:1:1 ratio for FCLK, UCLK and MCLK are not as important as before. To optimize their systems, users should overclock memory modules and controller in 1:1 mode. Well-performing Ryzen samples may hit 2000 MHz FCLK, but such configurations were not prioritized by AMD.

Intel CEO admits AMD CPUs may be the ones to buy today and into next year -- depends on how one will use their CPU. Of course, he says Intel will win big in the long run. smile

Intel Anticipates Further Market Share Loses To AMD Through 2023, Aims To Re-Establish Growth By 2025

Yesterday at the Evercore ISI TMT conference, Intel's CEO, Pat Gelsinger, stated that Chipzilla is anticipating further market share losses to AMD through 2023.

Talking about how the company sees AMD moving forward, Pat says that the competition has done a good job and while Intel is still on a process node/technology deficit (10nm vs 5nm), the company is getting there with their future products with Emerald Rapids in 2023 and Granite Rapids / Sierra Forest in 2024. The CEO goes on to mention the advantages of Sapphire Rapids & how it is so good at AI. Sapphire Rapids is said to offer better performance and power than the AMD alternative but not in a significant way and Pat's goal is to bring out products fast that are not just better but more than better compared to the competition.

AMD Ryzen 7 7700X performance in CPU-Z and Geekbench has been leaked

Over at CPU-Z validation website, there was a submission from one of the reviewers featuring AMD’s upcoming 8-core CPU known as Ryzen 7 7700X.

the CPU is 21% faster than Ryzen 7 5800X (8-core Zen3) and 20% faster than Ryzen 9 5950X (16-core Zen3) in single-core test. It is also 1% faster than Core i5-12600K (10-core Alder Lake), but it is outperformed by Core i7-12700K (12-core).

In terms of multi-threaded performance, the 7700X scores 1% higher than Core i9-12900K (16-core) and 8% higher than i7-12700K. This new Raphael CPU is also 28% faster than its predecessor (5800X).

Presumably, the R7 7700X is NOT the new AMD gaming CPU. The gaming CPU will be the R7 7800X. So far, we don't know anything "real" about that one -- but, it should be faster than the R7 7700X.

ntel 13th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs & 700-Series Motherboard Prices To See Price Hike In Q4, Up To 20% Increase Expected on Components

If that's the case, then consumers should be expecting to pay quite a bit more than what they did last gen to secure next-gen chips & motherboards.

Intel's CCG business was down 25% year over year and 15% below the original Q2 guidance in the previous financial report. That took a toll on Intel and the company has since decided that they will increase the prices of their components to make up for the losses not only that but the price hike also aligns with the inflation surge

The article says inflation is the highest in 40 years (i.e. since 1982).

That strikes a chord with me. In 1982, I had to buy my wife's half of the house when she divorced me. I had to pay the then-standard 12% interest on the home loan (a legal loan between the two of us).

I paid it off in 2 years. Thus, after living expenses, I had no money left to spend elsewhere. But, I got my money's worth in piece of mind -- saved interest money -- and eventually another wife. smile

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4080 16GB/12GB max TGP and GPU clocks specs have been leaked

As far as the launch timeline is concerned, RTX 4090 is expected in the first half of October, while RTX 4080 series should launch in the first two weeks of November.

Some folks note that the RTX 4080 12GB specifications seem to be commensurate with an RTX 4070 (no RTX 4070 has been announced, yet).

So, the buyer must pay attention to the actual GPU specifications -- and pay less attention to the naming, they say. We'll see when the 3'd party independent tests are published.

More AMD GPU rumor/leak:

AMD Radeon RX 7900XT PCB layout leaks out with Navi 31 GPU and three 8-pin power connectors

The layout confirms that RX 7900XT features AMD Navi 31 GPU with 7 chiplets. The card is powered by three 8-pin power connectors, which means a maximum of 450W power, he notes. This does not rule out that AMD will use 16-pin 12VHPWR connectors, though, but thus far we have not seen any indication of that.

EVGA is reportedly so sick of working with Nvidia that it's going to stop making graphics cards altogether

The majority of EVGA's [sales] revenue comes from sales of its Nvidia graphics cards right now, but Han told Gamers Nexus that the margin is incredibly thin [so profits are incredibly small].

According to Jon Peddie Research, "the relationship between EVGA and Nvidia changed from what EVGA considered a true partnership to [a] customer-seller arrangement whereby EVGA was no longer consulted on new product announcements and briefings, not featured at events, and not informed of price changes." Peddie and Gamers Nexus also say that EVGA was frustrated by Nvidia undercutting its cards with its own Founders Editions.

Articles indicate that most of the Nvidia GPU wholesale-price rise during the "Cryptocurrency boom" was done and "pocketed" by Nvidia (not the card makers).

This is not the first such "breakup" of a partnership.

it's the end of NVIDIA GPUs for EVGA and that makes it just as big of a loss for the green team as when BFG Technologies dropped out of the GPU market or when XFX who also severed their relationship with the green team several years ago.

AMD to launch Radeon RX 7000 [GPU] series on November 3rd

AMD has already confirmed they are on track to deliver at least 50% better performance per watt efficiency with RDNA3. The new GPU series will also be the first to feature advanced packaging technology and multi-chip-module design with graphics and memory chiplets.

The Radeon RX 7000 GPUs codenamed Navi 3X are designed with 5nm process technology and will feature next-generation Infinity Cache, the company confirmed.

High power use has an unexpected high price.

ZOTAC RTX 4090’s PCIe Gen5 power cable adapter service life is up to 30 connection cycles

the problem was reported by NVIDIA as a member of PCI-SIG, who were testing various prototype power cables and supplies. They observed that some cables were prone to showing hotspots or even melting due to severe bending or due to excess connection cycles (about 40).
