Apparently, Game Developers were not getting the most out of AMD Ray Tracing on 6000 series GPUs. The following may fix that in some cases -- we'll see.

Quote
AMD develops HIP RT Library: Allows developers a simpler but robust ray tracing application for modern development

AMD releases HIP RT (Ray Tracing), adding a new ray-tracing library in the Heterogeneous Interface for Portability, or HIP. HIP RT simplifies writing a ray tracing application in the HIP by utilizing the library and API created to be straightforward and effortless to incorporate into any current HIP applications.

AMD's HIP RT is created to permit developers to utilize the Ray Accelerators' complete advantages for ray tracing in AMD RDNA 2 GPUs. AMD RDNA 2 architecture-based graphics processors support hardware ray tracing acceleration to optimize render times. Before, applications that support HIP had not had access to operating this hardware acceleration.

P.S. Newegg still has two RX6900XT cards at effectively MSRP ($1000 and $1020) -- after rebate. These look like one of the the best current deals for performance/price. I was tempted -- but, the 7000 series may be here in just a few months (3 times as many shaders) smile

AMD Ryzen 5000 Desktop CPU Price Drop Continues: Ryzen 9 5950X 16 Core For As Low As $539 US, Ryzen 9 5900X 12 Core For $394 US

AMD is taking steps to ensure that its AM4 platform can still grow in terms of market share. So far, the red team has launched several mainstream Ryzen 5000 and Ryzen 4000 Desktop CPU options, will soon be introducing its fastest gaming chip yet, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and it looks like retailers have been directed to offer huge discounts on the existing Ryzen 5000 CPUs.

I bought the XFX Ultimate Black Ed. of this card on Newegg before the price-drop, and I don't regret it at all. The thing is a beast, and powers through DCS, IL-2 BoS, Red Dead R2 and all the rest...

I currently have an MSI GamingZ Trio 6900XT in the shop I've been testing with - and recently AMD added Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) in their driver for 5000 and 6000 series GPUs...

I got a huge frame rate boost in RDR2, without any real difference I could notice (of course, I'm blind lol). But with almost everything set at Ultra, at 4k/120Hz FreeSync, I was getting 100+ FPS average and higher max FPS than the monitor's refresh rate.

It's nuts. My son has a 2070 Super, and I'm waiting for him to get back to me on running DLSS with his setup since RDR2 supports it. Obviously it won't do what the 6900XT will, and DLSS is presumably better than RSR - but teh RSR is plenty impressive and doesn't require developers/games to have built-in support.

I'll tell you what, these new scaling technologies are just remarkable. If you haven't tried RSR...you should wink If you do, I'd be very interested to hear how you make out in DCS. I planned to test it myself just didn't get that far yet biggrin biggrin biggrin

The list of games that support DLSS isn't that large at the moment but it grows all the time.

I've just got an RTX3070 machine and I only own a few games that support it but have not run comparisons yet. It seems to make the biggest difference in e-sport titles but they tend to not be too demanding anyway.

The games I own that support it are Death Stranding, BF5, Martha Is Dead and No Man's Sky. The one game I wished supported it is Star Citizen. Hopefully they will add it this century...

Yeah, that's the thing that, IMHO, makes RSR "better" - it (supposedly) works on any title. Mind you, most competent reviews have concluded DLSS is better in terms of quality**, which I wouldn't dispute. And I'm hoping to try more with DLSS, but - as you said - it's limited by title support. (Plus it happens that, while I have quite a few high-end AMD cards in the shop right now, I have no 20 or 30-series Nvidia GPUs, which would be required for DLSS.)

But for me, if RSR looks good enough (and it does, to me), then what I consider "better" is the fact that it can be useful in so many more instances. And what I saw it do for RDR2 was just fantastic...average frame rates went from ~70 to 100...more than 40% improvement eek

(To be accurate, I'd freely admit my own testing of these things is very limited to this point)

**EDIT: These reviews were usually comparing DLSS to AMD FSR, not RSR. AMD even says FSR is preferred over RSR - so by inference, I'm guessing RSR<FSR<DLSS although I haven't seem anything yet that I could distinguish that dissuades me.

NVIDIA says GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards are now in stock, announces “Restocked & Reloaded” campaign

What appeared to be a promotion of individual shops, is actually a global event prepared by NVIDIA.

Graphics cards have been restocked and reloaded. NVIDIA today announced that their RTX 30 graphics cards have been resupplied and should now be available to gamers. Multiple graphics card companies and retailers have informed about new shipments of NVIDIA GPUs. Some cards are available at MSRP, others received a price cut.

Some RTX 3090 Nvidia GPUs seem close to reference card MSRP (or maybe actual MSRP for non-reference models) on Newegg. Presumably, more will be close to MSRP over the next few weeks. We'll see.

Still a gaming AMD RX6900XT for $1000 (reference card MSRP) at Newegg. It originally sold for $1600.

Competition is good smile

I notice MSI Mech Radeon RX 6700 XT for $515 on Newegg. MSRP for a reference RX6700XT is $480. So, this price is close to MSRP for a gaming RX 6700 XT.

For comparison, back when I bought my gaming RX5700XT 50th Anniversary, it cost me $450. Another way to say the better performing RX 6700 XT asking price is virtually within reason.

Prices seem to be coming down as some articles have stated.

Next-Gen flagship GPU rumors: NVIDIA “Ada” GA102 with 21 Gbps memory, AMD’s “RDNA3” Navi 31 with 7 chiplets, Intel “Battlemage” with 20480 cores

[Intel] Battlemage is not launching till 2023/2024, but there is a chance it will become available as RTX 4090 and RX 7900XT are still on the market.

As previously rumored, we're looking at twice the FPS at the highest end of the product lines. Price will be the issue.

The Intel "highest end" will probably be "behind" Nvidia and AMD for another couple years. Being a "wealthy company", Intel can afford to compete well on performance/price -- if not pure performance.

AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards are now ‘only’ 12% over MSRP in Germany and Austria

GPU manufacturers are now expected to introduce next-gen GPUs in 5 to 6 months. AMD is also set to introduce an updated RDNA2 RX 6x50XT series in May. With the current prices successively going down at this pace, there is a very good chance the next report will already show various models at MSRP.

AMD Radeon RX 6400 Launched at $159 US: First RDNA Graphics Card To Come In Low-Profile Flavors, 53W TDP Aimed at Entry-Level PCs

The Radeon RX 6400 is an entry-level solution that offers slightly better GPU performance and capabilities over integrated graphics without requiring lots of power. The card will also come with compact designs, making it the perfect candidate for your HTPC or SFF PCs.

Checking at Newegg and Amazon, the USA prices for AMD 6000 series GPUs is reasonable or close to reasonable for a few cards. Mainly a couple 6900 and a couple 6500 a 6700 and a couple 6400. But, the 7000s are coming soon.

NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU Prices Fall Of A Cliff Overnight In Australia, Global Prices Should Follow

Most of the AMD RX 6000 series GPUs have a couple at Newegg very close to (or at) MSRP. The RX 6800 XTs remain overpriced. Get an RX 6900 XT at nearly MSRP. Or wait for the 7000 series.

I'm not as familiar with Newegg Nvidia GPU prices. But, Nvidia prices still seem high (by my standards) at Newegg. Makes sense as they are more popular with gamers and gamers are willing to pay more for them.

As previously mentioned several times, Nvidia has long advertised that "we're the highest FPS" (price is secondary) -- and, so far, they are. AMD has long said they won't fight the maximum FPS battle -- they're more interested in providing the best Overall-Performance/Price ratio.

I bought another R5 5600G CPU/GPU to update an HTPC (replaces R7 1800X CPU and RX550 GPU). Cost $178 (free shipping) from Amazon. Most AMD 5000 series CPUs prices are well below MSRP now.

AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs & AM5 Platform Will Only Support DDR5 Memory, Comes With EXPO ‘Memory Profile’ Technology

AMD's representatives confirmed that Raphael, codename for Ryzen 7000 CPUs based on Zen 4 core architecture, will be their first DDR5 gaming platform. As such, users running DDR4 memory will have to say goodbye when moving to the new platform.

[Intel] is providing their users with the options to select between both DDR5 and DDR4 choices. AMD might be in a difficult position as they won't have a higher-end option that comes with DDR4 memory support and users will have to pay much higher prices to hop onboard the new standard.

AMD GPU prices still slowly falling -- the very best deals are decent.

Best example I saw today: The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6900 XT GAMING OC is now selling for $950 (after rebate) at Newegg (sale ends April 30). That's $50 less than RX 6900 XT "reference card" MSRP.

In a quick look, the RX 6800 XT is the most overpriced AMD model.

AMD Radeon RX 7000 Graphics Card Launch Schedules Rumored: Navi 31 For Radeon RX 7900 Series In Q4 2022, Navi 32 For Radeon RX 7800 Series in 1H 2023

the AMD Navi 31 and Navi 32 GPUs will utilize an MCM solution but there's a possibility that the Navi 31 GPU could make use of 3D-Stacking while the Navi 32 GPU could make of a standard multi-die approach

Both the Navi 31 and Navi 32 GPUs will be composed of 6nm IO (MCD) and 5nm GPU (GCD) chiplets.

the AMD Navi 31 GPU will appear within the flagship Radeon RX 7900 series by end of Q4 2022. Do note that the Navi 33 GPUs based on 6nm Monolithic dies will be the first to hit shelves. The Navi 32 GPUs for the Radeon RX 7800 series will launch in the first half of 2023.

Thus, according to rumors: RX 7000 series still roughly 7 to 10 months away. The rumored/estimated price for the top RX 7900 XT GPU is in the "up to $2000" range. Its rumored/estimated to be 5 to 6 times the FPS of my RX 5700 XT (the RX 6900 XT is 2 times the FPS of my RX 5700 XT and currently one model is on sale for $950). So, MSRP/actual-cost will remain an issue for top cards. We'll see.

[Rumors/Leaks] AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Release Date, Specifications, Price, and Benchmarks

Ryzen 7000 is expected in 2H of 2022.

New leaks from Chinese forums suggest that the Ryzen 7000s could release earlier than originally thought. Specifically in late July or early August. Another leaker supports this release date (as reported by BollyInside).

The Zen 4 CPUs will be called Ryzen 7000, and they are the final answer to Intel’s Alder Lake.

[Power Draw]
65W – probably the Ryzen 7600/X SKU. It could either be a 6-core or an 8-core, it’s not confirmed.
105W – Ryzen 7900X, 12-core/24-thread SKU.
170W – high end 7950X 16-core/32-thread CPU.

Ryzen 7000 may have an iGPU. And not just any GPU, but an RDNA 2 one.

Recently, we’ve seen the RDNA 2 iGPUs in the mobile Ryzen 6000 perform incredibly well, blowing Intel’s XE iGPUs out of the water. That’s a good sign for Zen 4.

AMD processors on the 5nm process will be moving to a new platform and leaving AM4 behind. That is not a bad thing

Zen 4 won’t have any support for DDR4 memory, it will support DDR5@5200MHz by default. So, when Ryzen 7000 CPUs and 5000+MHz DDR5 kits release, you can just plug and play.

New DRAM is not the only improvement AM5 will bring. PCIe 5.0 and USB 4.0 will also be introduced. This means more PCIe lanes, faster PCIe lanes, and much faster USB.

Leaks suggest that AM5 will upgrade to LGA and 1718 pins.

To further boost gaming performance on Ryzen processors, AMD introduces 3D V-Cache. A method that allows L3 cache to be 3D stacked.

we believe Ryzen 7000 might be cheaper than the 5000 series.

Ryzen 5 7600X – $279
Ryzen 7 7700X – $359
Ryzen 7 7800X – $419
Ryzen 9 7900X – $499
Ryzen 9 7950X – $759

Keep in mind that you should take all of this with a massive pinch of salt. None of the statements above have been confirmed by any official source. All of these performance numbers are currently only estimates, leaks, allegations, etc.

2022 GPU Benchmark and Graphics Card Comparison Chart

All Graphics Cards Compared Chart

Now that GPUs are dropping down to MSRP in price, some folks might be interested in buying one. Hence the link to the long list of GPUs ranked.

The attached picture is only the top of the list. The entire list has virtually all the cards made since 2013. A couple very recent cards are not on the list ( e.g. $2000 MSRP RTX 3090 Ti).

I just grabbed a GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6900 XT GAMING OC Video Card, GV-R69XTGAMING OC-16GD for $950 on special sale for a day or two ($50 under RX 6900 XT reference card MSRP). Today the price is back up to $1350 -- wow, lucky me.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger anticipates the end of the chip shortages by 2024

That’s part of the reason that we believe the overall semiconductor shortage will now drift into 2024, from our earlier estimates in 2023, just because the shortages have now hit equipment and some of those factory ramps will be more challenged.

— Pat Gelsinger, Intel CEO to CNBC

Radeon RX 6900 XT, Ryzen 7 5800X3D Are Available at MSRP

The official AMD online retail pages currently list the Radeon RX 6900 XT and Ryzen 7 5800X3D as available and for sale at their respective MSRPs. They are selling for $999 and $449, respectively.

The AMD RX 6900 XT reference model can be had at the AMD on-line store for MSRP ($999).

https://www.amd.com/en/direct-buy/us

Edit: Reference RX 6900 XT is still there as I write this today. Other GPUs are "out of stock" (as they were yesterday).

R5 5600G APU on sale at both Amazon and Newegg for $180 the last couple days. Based on my tests, the on-board GPU supports light gaming at 1080p. The CPU speed supports very good gaming if one has a very good stand-alone GPU -- so, its a good CPU if one is "on a budget" (the gaming R5-5600X is only $210 today).

So, some bargains continue to show up. I assume that means the new stuff will be with us relatively soon -- so they are moving excess inventory.
