AMD's best CPUs are back in stock at the MSRP, making them unprofitable for resellers

The Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 7 5800X could be spotted at or close to MSRP for most of the year.

both the Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 9 5950X are available at MSRP pretty much anywhere you look.

Availability of the new Ryzen 3 5300G, Ryzen 5 5600G, and Ryzen 7 5700G APUs is a little spottier, but even these fresh-faced parts are available at close to MSRP at most retailers I've checked in on.

Heck, R5 5600X and R7 5800X should only be purchased at under MSRP now. MSRP is currently good for the others in the 5000 series.

I just ordered an R5 5600G APU for one of our HTPCs at MSRP (includes a free $30 game DLC). Presumably, its graphics performance is within 10% of the R7 5700G at a much lower MSRP (good, entry level 1080p gaming). And, its computing ability is close to the R5 5600X for less money (and 5600G includes a GPU). I'll see if all that is true when it gets here.

AMD continues to have a good "Current Status",

AMD's CPU Market Share Hits 14-Year High As Company Breaks Past 20% Overall x86 Share Against Intel

From the numbers provided by Mercury Research, it can be seen that AMD gained +1.8 points over the previous quarter leading to a 22.5% market share this quarter. This brings AMD's current share to a 14-year high against Intel who currently stands at a 77.5% share but has been in a decline ever since AMD launched its Zen CPU architecture.

Best CPUs for Gaming: August 2021

The attached screen capture shows the outcome. In each price range, all the CPUs and APUs listed are close in performance.

Not discussed is power use and cooling required. Those two factors nominally favor AMD for overall costs.

My just purchased (at MSRP) R5 5600G APU is operational in an HDTV -- that in my quick tests can play 1080p games on high settings at relatively low but smooth frame rates using its internal GPU.

Using CPU-Z benchmark, my budget priced R5 5600G APU HDTV single core score is 91 percent as fast as my high end R7 5800X gaming system. With equal add-on GPUs, it would be very hard to "see" a difference in a game.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang expects supply constraints for the vast majority of next year

Despite securing significant long-term supply commitments, Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA is expecting supply constraints through the majority of next year.

During the second quarter 2022 fiscal year earnings call, it was revealed the company scored a record 6.5 billion USD revenue, despite a global shortage of components and substrates.

Assuming both AMD and Nvidia are having similar supply issues, buying GPUs at MSRP may be delayed longer than some expected.

Personally, I was already planning on waiting for up-to-date GPUs at MSRP until Winter 2022.

Rumor/leak/speculation regarding the Future of AMD:

Quote
AMD RDNA4 [GPU] architecture rumored to be build using 3nm and 5nm nodes

AMD RDNA4 [RX8000] series is to continue using MCM [MultiChip] design, at least for some of its SKUs

For NAVI4X MCM chips this means 3nm graphics tiles and 5nm I/O dies. Respectively, RDNA3 MCM GPUs will see 5nm and 6nm processes.

AMD Radeon RX 8000 series are not expected to launch till at least late 2023

MCM means that the inside of a GPU package is no longer a single chip that does it all. Rather, one chip is used for the main graphics work and a different chip is used for other work all in the same GPU package.

Similar future rumors/leaks apply to Intel and Nvidia GPUs. But, AMD does seem to be slightly ahead in Future designs -- and Intel/Nvidia are rumored to be considering changes to match/exceed AMD.

In any case, the GPUs of the near Future should absolutely crush the best current GPUs (that are currently un-affordable) -- maybe twice or three times the graphics power (e,g, 8K gaming becomes practical). So, I'll wait smile

Competition is good smile

Taking a page out of Intel's book. Graphics "built in" to some standard "next generation" AMD CPUs (not just APUs).

AMD to offer integrated on-chip graphics for next-gen Ryzen series

Upcoming Ryzen CPU series based on Zen4 architecture will all offer integrated GPU by design. While this does not mean that literally all CPUs will have iGPUs enabled, it does confirm that the mainstream Zen4 silicon will be paired with graphics for the first time. Thus, the GPU will no longer be exclusive to the Ryzen G-Series APUs.

AMD will also sell Ryzen CPUs with dedicated GPU disabled

Intel Arc gaming graphics cards to offer overclocking through official drivers at launch

Intel is now planning to offer a built-in overclocking tool through the official driver user interface. Intel will therefore be expected to offer similar functionality to AMD’s Radeon Software tools, which allows users to modify clocks, power settings, and even fine-tune fan curves.

Roger Chandler reaffirms Intel’s dedication to fully support the latest DirectX 12 Ultimate API, meaning that gamers should expected hardware acceleration for ray tracing through DXR as well as support for Variable Rate Shading and Mesh Shading. Ray Tracing will also be supported for Vulkan API.

Intel confirms its Arc graphics cards codenamed Alchemist, featuring the DG2 family of GPUs will launch for consumers in the first quarter of next year. What Intel has not yet confirmed is whether this means desktop and mobile launch at the same time.

NVIDIA & AMD GPU Prices Recovery Halts As Graphics Cards Start Getting Expensive Once Again But With Sustained Availability

several analysts and NVIDIA's CEO, Jensen, believes that supply constraints would persist even in 2022

As previously mentioned, a huge performance increase (double or more??) is expected near the end of 2022. Waiting makes sense.

Buying a card now requires a strong reason or lots of extra cash. Polls indicate most gamers will wait.

All AMD Ryzen Zen 3 X-Series CPUs Are in Stock and on Sale

All of AMD's Ryzen 5000 series CPUs (save for the recently released GPU-equipped Cezanne APUs) are finally in stock over at Newegg (and less reliably so at Amazon and other stores)

according to our CPU benchmarks hierarchy, even the 5600X offers higher gaming performance than you can get on plenty of competing Intel chips, including the Intel Core i7-11700K.

Paulson says cryptocurrencies will eventually be ‘worthless’

John Paulson, the hedge fund billionaire.., said in an interview published Sunday that he believes cryptocurrencies will eventually go bust.

"I would describe them as a limited supply of nothing," he said. "So to the extent there’s more demand than the limited supply, the price would go up. But to the extent the demand falls, then the price would go down. There’s no intrinsic value to any of the cryptocurrencies except that there’s a limited amount."

The Bloomberg report pointed out that Paulson is a big believer—and buyer-- of gold despite digital assets outperforming the metal.

Windows 11 will be available October 5, they say.

The W11 automatic upgrade will roll out over a long period into next year. When you'll get it (via automatic means) depends on your system.

However, I'm guessing that one can probably download W11 and install it manually on an AMD 2000, 3000, 4000, or 5000 CPU or APU -- on or near Oct 5.

NVIDIA CMP 170HX cryptomining card spotted, passive design offering 164 MH/s hash rate

NVIDIA CMP 170HX has 4480 CUDA cores, which is only 54% of all cores present in the GA100 silicon. For comparison, the GA100 in A100 features 6912 CUDA cores which are 84% of active cores. In terms of memory size, the CMP 170HX has a massive reduction as well. Instead of 40GB or 80GB present in various A100 models, the 170HX only offers 8GB HBM2e memory,

AMD Ryzen 6000 “Rembrandt” APUs are allegedly in mass producition

Yesterday, Twitter leaker Greymon55, posted a tweet stating that the AMD Rembrandt APUs (Ryzen 6000 series) are already in mass production which means we could see a launch in Q1 2022 or earlier.

Reviews of current 5000G series APUs have shown excellent "entry level" gaming at 720p and 1080p. My own R5 5600G HTPC has shown me that even 1440p is feasible (at low but smooth FPS) for some action games at medium graphics settings (I'm currently testing it on a new 1440p gaming monitor that came Friday).

In these GPU (at MSRP) starved times, hastening the hopefully even more powerful graphics of AMD 6000 APUs makes sense.

Intel CEO says it will respond to AMD with better products and put pressure on NVIDIA graphics

Pat Gelsinger (PG): "We just say about the AMD threat, you know we got to do better products, period! So we gonna build better products .. had a period we haven’t executed well. We’re gonna execute, execute, execute!

And with that, we see that we are coming into a period where we are going to be very competitive. So we were in a period where we were behind.

as we get out to 3 -4 years from now, we see that we will be in sustained leadership again.

we have our GPU architecture where we are gonna start being in a position to really put pressure on NVIDIA for the first time ever."

He admits publicly that Intel currently is "behind" AMD and Nvidia in some ways. That's the "first step" towards "catching up".

Intel Will Invest $95 Billion in EU Chip Manufacturing

Intel has announced it will spend up to €80 billion (approximately $95 billion in USD today) over the next decade on two new foundries in Europe.

Intel wants to see 20 percent of global semiconductors produced in Europe by 2030, up from 9 percent today.

This is also a maneuver to score points off TSMC, which has prominently rejected the idea of building fabs in Europe.

Good! thumbsup

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 12 GB Graphics Card Reportedly Launches In Q1 2022 To Tackle GPU Availability Issues

NVIDIA is reportedly planning to feature 12 GB of GDDR6 memory on the RTX 2060 graphics card which makes sense in the existing gaming market as should act as a decent 1080p gaming option. The first graphics cards are expected to land in January 2022 as said to board partners by NVIDIA itself.

A relaunch of the GeForce RTX 2060 would mean that NVIDIA is not expecting the graphics card market to get any better in 2022.

So many CPUs, GPUs, etc depend on TSMC for their main chips. AMD depends on TSMC. TSMC is on "overload".

TSMC Price Hikes to Result in Higher Retail Pricing For Pretty Much Everything

Chip shortage should last until mid-2023

With the recent hikes of quotes by TSMC and other foundries, the cumulative cost increases for some chips from 2020 to 2022 will be 30%, or higher.

Currently, most foundries operate at a utilization rate that exceeds 100%.

The price increases on chips made using mature nodes will affect the end cost of all devices. In the case of high-end PCs and smartphones, the additional costs will barely affect their recommended prices (if at all). But in the case of mainstream devices, the additional costs may have a drastic effect on MSRP.
