So I just soften the overlapping edges with that.

Yup, that the way I do it too. Good ol' Photoshop.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.

Wow, this close-up shot shows well, how good the revamped DH.2 really looks now!
Sooner or later I will fly another British carreer, and start in No. 24 Sqdn RFC.
I somehow like that craft and it's look, and the great forward vision.

hi Olham, yes i like the dh2 alot as well! very scenic to fly 'up front' smile

i like the earlier planes and have been having great battles in it against some eiiis and also the halb d.iiis too

likely my flying ... but when in the halb d.iii i can just barely handle the dh2 ... the dh2 'late' model hands it to me pretty quickly LOL!

cheers, Ron

They are dancing like butterflies and the aces know, what they have to do, surely.
But with the Halberstadt D.II and D.III you can get them - at least in OFF I could.
I recommend: watch the good DH.2 pilots fighting, and try to do, what they do.
They use a lot of vertical elliptical fighting - rushing down for gaining speed (= energy)
and then rushing up and around again, until it bleeds off, and they repeat the proceedure.
With the Halberstadt I used "hit and run" tactic against them; it seemed to me
that the Halberstadt was faster.

still working on my halb d.iii skinning 'learning / exercise' ... coming along slowly - now have the 'mapping' mostly to my liking in photoshop and starting to work on the details and high res work next

from another break and 'check flight' this series just admiring the range of colors in sky and smoke - as we know, great contrast and atmosphere!!

Olham, you have inspired me with your last comment ... 'they are darting like butterflies and the aces know, what they have to do, surely'

so ... I have dubbed my halb d.iii as the 'schmetterling' or butterfly in german smile thanks! an appropriate target for the angry sparrows smile

the base skin will range from a number of 'historical' types and variants respectful of the period and eventually some (hopefully) more vibrant and beautiful for this elegant creature too!

regards, Ron

Finally in the game... not the best pic. I'm still learning and fiddling about.

Hey, Rickity!!! Great to see you back over Flanders fields!
As for the learning process: it often feels like a Moebius-loop to me -
never ending! Don't give up; good luck!

Did you shop some Austrian fabric, manitouguy? Nice little crate - is that your E.IV?

I like that Fokker E. IV skin, there are no ace skins for it in game currently.
Any skinners have some to d/l anywhere?

hi olham, mudwasp

thanks for the compliments - i am just learning and practising some skinning methods

my first attempts were on an e.iii and the e.iV

i had posted pics and some comments elsewhere as well - i was inspired by some beautiful hexagonal lozenge patterns on some austrian aviatik bergs in the game First Eagles 2 and so did my own creative take on it here for the eindeckers

they are still works in progress - i have a green, brown and lt blue versions for the e.iii and purple, red and linen versions of the e.iv with blacked out cowls too

i may work on them a bit more but don't mind sharing them in near future ... i might have to email them to someone else and they can post a link to make them available to others too?

they certainly are pretty when flying around in and look great under the various lighting conditions when you are chasing them around

cheers, Ron

Let me know where to find them.
Last I knew Combat Ace website had a section for such files, Olham has skins uploaded there.

High over the Front
Patrolling the front with J11 on April 22, 1917.
Ran into a group of French Strutters and the furball began. One, apparently confused, flew in a straight line about 4 seconds too long and became my 6th victory in a fiery funeral.
Above my plane you can see Kurt Wolff trying to shake a Strutter off his tail. I went to help but a group of Spad VII's - who were escorting some BE's, blundered into the action and poked their noses into the scrap. But that's a story for another time. Busy day at the front.
When I get my 5th victory I assign myself an ace skin as a reward. Since my painting skills are poor I borrow one from the Skins folder as long as the paint job reflects my current squadrons motif in some fashion. That's a bit of a hint - who wants to try to name my skin?
