Holy $#!# that GT is breathtaking.
I'm glad Assetto Corsa's creators got their Ford license.

Wow, that GT is pretty trick looking. I love the way the rear end/fender treatment is done. Like a cockpit with outboard fendered wheels. LOL Until I saw that, it didn't seem like an improvement on the last GT, but with that...WOW.

Looks awesome, another exciting design from Ford that shows the influence of the original but updates to a modern supercar look.

I know you can do plenty with a good V6, but I have to say, I'd rather the GT came with a small displacement turbo V8.

I know you can do plenty with a good V6, but I have to say, I'd rather the GT came with a small displacement turbo V8. I sort of agree. The torque from Ford's EcoBoost 3.5 V6 seems infinite. It starts low and stays around until you get way up in the revs. I've been driving a '13 Taurus SHO with a lite tune, and it's so damn fast, but the flat torque curve makes it almost too easy to drive, no drama when accelerating (AWD helps with that too). But, I think the new 5.0 V8 feels better, though I would imagine in an identical car the turbo V6 would give you a better lap time.

Wow, the new Mustang Shelby GT350R has lapped the Nordschleife in 7m32s, beating the recent Z/28 time by 5s as well as the Ferrari 458 Italia. Nice to see the new Detroit muscle not just looking great and fast in a straight line, but also having the track day handling to run with supercars Hope they release the onboard video. http://www.autoblog.com/2015/01/26/ford-shelby-gt350r-nurburgring-lap-time-report/

Pretty sweet time. A Zonda would be done and signing autographs by then, but nice to see Ford and GM trying to take some turns.

That's an unconfirmed time, and Ford doesn't release those numbers (at least officially), but I wouldn't be surprised it that's accurate. That's probably a $65K Mustang, and it's keeping up with some Ferraris, so I'd say it's punching above its weight, and same with the Z/28.
I think the GT350 is a much better looking car than the Z/28, but they both provide amazing performance for the money.
When I look at the 2005 Mustang, and compare that to the 2013 Boss 302, and even my 2014 GT, it's obvious that a great deal of development occurred between 2005 and 2013, improving the car dramatically. Same with the Camaro, too, comparing its first year to the current SS 1LE, ZL1 and Z/28. Since the Mustang is a newer platform, I wonder what they will be able to do with it a few years down the road.

It's a little sad they're leaving behind the drag racing crowd that kept the Mustang alive all of these years. Top Gear might not like a solid axle, but that's what you want on a dragstrip. They would be wise to offer a factory lightweight drag pack. I guess the serious crowd will continue to do that kind of mod themselves. Modern suspension is definitely better in general.
