Indeed it was. I had seen three eindeckers far away, going the opposite direction (i admit, i had dots on but the dot in the video is actually my wingman), when i was heading to meet up with my wingman. In the video you can actually see me get a little stunned before i react and go after the #%&*$#.

My adventures in the Fokker E.I has been a series of disappointments so far but i did record a decent fight in my Pup, before i managed to rip it's wings off in a dive the next day, and today i decided to process the footage:

Some really nice flying there Faap. Nice conservation of ammunition and waiting for the right opportunity. Staying high and waiting for the opportunity and not getting dragged down low! I like the way you didn't concentrate to heavily on one enemy craft but instead focused on damaging as many as possible to slow them down and take their edge off.

It's a rare person that pilots an E.III by choice.

I was actually flying the E.I, not the E.III, if that makes a difference.
My one victory in the E.I was actually uploaded to YouTube today and there will most likely be no more victories, or sorties, with any eindeckers in the foreseeable future.

To be perfectly honest there is not much to this fight, just me showing how well i can stall and spin as well as an observer who clearly did not spend enough time at the shooting range.

Not bad, considering what you're flying. I'm assuming that's a BE.2 out there? Every time I engage with them, I get my butt handed to me. Don't know how they ever got the reputation for being "Fokker Fodder".

I especially like the way the film started in Black & White, then ended the same way. Nice touch.

Faap,

You did a nice ob shredding that BE2. Just work the throttle a little more when you get behind your enemy. You kept it full on, which forced you to pass him and expose yourself to his gunner.

Other than that, great kill! Nice work in a very difficult plane to maneuver with. Congrats!

Good idea, your attack angles - they gave the gunner little chances to fire at you.
But they can still be dangerous - shot me down flying an Albatros D.II - tch!

Nice vids Faap.

Hauks, BE2's are vulnerable from the front and sides and more angled rear attacks in fact most places, the gunner arc is very shallow compared to others due to the struts so don't come in from the direct rear (good advice for any 2 seater anyway) but you can from a much more sharp angle, or the gunner will use that nice bullet firing Lewis gun to shred you. Also early BE2's have the rifle, surely you can handle those ones wink

To be honest i have a hard time understanding how the Fokker Scourge even came to exist. Those eindeckers are painful to fly.

Yeah, that was a B.E.2c i believe but i wouldn't bet my life on it.

The black and white is a bit corny (or is the correct word "cheesy"?) but i kind of like it. The next video will be even more so, using title cards as well.

I am stalling constantly and you want me to not use full throttle? wink

Yeah, those two seaters are awfully strong and if this would have been a "dead is dead" type of situation i wouldn't have engaged to begin with.

Just as a little correction, don't use the throttle but the blipswitch. This engine was an all or nothing thing. Start the engine and throttle up to 100% and never touch the throttle again but blip it down for landing etc.

BE.2's with just a rifle? Now I begin to understand "Fokker Scourge"...Lee-Enfield vs Spandau. I can see why the boyos in the RFC were feeling a bit over-matched. I'll have to give it a go next time I'm feeling bloody-minded.

I was actually quite excited after this battle so i started editing it more or less straight away. The next video will probably be a bit longer than one day.

I recall, a while back, over at Combat Ace, there was a thread on the subject of Eindeckers. Seems the Fokker was slightly preceded by a Pfaltz E.III. The Pfaltz (which looked very much like the Fokker) was so squirrelly that it took everything a good pilot had just to keep it flying straight and level. They were man-killers. The introduction of the Fokker was warmly welcomed.

We look back and shake our head in wonder about how those guys could go up in those fragile rickety string-bags. But to them, it was all new, modern, hot-sh*t, state-of-the-art stuff.

Wow, it's been a while since I've contributed a video. I finally got back around to rebuilding my career guys in WOFF 2.0 with my new hardware. Here's a nice little balloon busting with a dogfight at the end. I have to say I have flown the DH2 way more than any other bird in the game and am probably as sick of it as the real pilots were by 1917...At least I don't embarrass myself in it too much for all that flying!

Nice vid Rick. Seems one of your mates had a bit of target fixation on the balloon!

Nice vid Rick, and very good stable flying! thumbsup

Hmmmm, are you practicing up for a future challenge! biggrin

I don't see you in the DiD campaign, you should give it a try mate, it's a load of fun. One of the neat aspects is following the careers of others. I know you are listed for DiD but I haven't seen your reports.

Hey, Robert, I follow and occasionally comment on the DiD thread and love reading the reports, but I can't realistically squeeze in enough time to fly missions without some form of time compression. The kids have activities almost every night so I am lucky to fit in "the good parts" of flying and fighting when I can... I don't want to jinx you by saying what an impressive run Albert has had so far thumbsup

MFair, yeah, that guy was a little over anxious, eh? rofl , Fortunately, he had his (H)eavy (A)rmor on and was back in the fray the next day!
