I tried a search but the info was for Beta and seemed off from what I've seen in game.

Are the costs for weapons and equipment "standardized" in the game? For example, will a gimballed C2 laser cost the same as a gimballed C2 multicannon? Is a B3 power plant going to cost the same as a B3 power distributor?

I'm currently in a Viper and I'm surprised how much credits it takes to kit it out. From the initial 142K cost, I think I've added about 300K into it and I'm nowhere near complete yet! With the nearest "pimp my ride" shop about 8 jumps from my system, I'd rather get a guesstimate of how much I need before I take the trip.... I thought I'd be sorted with my 300K but it might be 1M or more credits just to max this ship out.

Don`t think so, it seems every item has its own price-tag, rising somewhat exponentially up through the classes.

I've invested roughly 2.5 Mio Credits into my Cobra. And I'm not finished yet.

I wish there was an option to scavenge parts of ships that you've just killed. Which parts or how many could be created randomly.

I will stay with the Cobra for the time being, so I might as well soup it up accordingly. At least until I can safely afford an ASP Explorer.

I also would like so see a change to how scavenged cargo is being classified. I don't see why any cargo floating around in space is automatically considered contraband.

IMO it would be better if the developers would differentiate more in future patches. Let us smuggle illegal goods that we can buy at the black market, or a mission where we are supposed to deliver illegal cargo from point A to B.

OTOH, make salvaging cargo legal, with the option to sell it on the open market - as long as the cargo is not from a clean merchant vessel we ambushed and killed, but instead either salvage floating in space, or cargo from a wanted commander/ pirate that tried to attack us. That stuff should be fair compensation. Victor's spoils. yep

All I know, following since day zero, is that there are lots of more game mechanics to be implemented in the following months/years.

While I can't see what or at which level, I know there's some serious "souping" up coming soon (tm).

How the hell did you managed to make so much money in such short time? Or you been playing and saving even since alpha or beta?.

@Jayhwak
I agree that the mechanic of salvaging loose cargo is classified as contraband it´s a pain in the a$#, and should be allowed. But, at least, if it stay as illegal, allow to earn more money from it. I cought six tons of some lost cargo from a USS for my first time, and find a black market and went there and sold it, only to earn a little over 1000 credits. Pure crap!.
Now i don´t even bother, it does not worth the risk. Same thing with "Plans", also illegal f you get them from an already destroyed ship.
Not worth the risk of keeping them until you could find some place to sell them.

I've been playing since Premium Beta but I started from scratch on release.

Earning money is IMO quite easy once you understand the basics. I started with a Sidewinder doing transport missions for 2-5k a run. Then bought a Hauler and started trading, doing more transport missions and started mining. Bough a Cobra and started bounty hunting.

Para, what equipment did you put in the two utility mounts of your Cobra? Can't really decide, so far they're empty.

I'm using a kill warrant scanner (essential when bounty hunting) and a chaff launcher to disrupt gimbaled weapons and turrets.

Thanks. I used to have that heat-sink thingy on my previous ships, but never got into a situation where I ever needed to use it.

Was debating (with my imaginary co-pilot) between passive missile defense or the active (turrent) variant.

Yeah, with projectile weapons being so popular at the moment heat isn't usually much or a problem.

NPCs only rarely employ missiles so I've not seen the need for missile defense yet.
