The skin viewer is nice.. and I like the skinning in BoS better than DCS or WoP.. It is actually closer to IL2.. Very easy to do. Very well implemented.

No not by us this time. The community can do this. I will gladly host them though. You should just need to have the skin in your game directory to be seen on custom MP servers. No special work needed as in ROF to control this. Jason

I went to a Russian English translator and entered "Fighting 99th" and that was what I came up with..

When I first came to UBI in 2002 I was totally floored.. There were so many squadrons.. you had the BlitPigs.. and of course Jason had the 777 AVG squad.. and it was all just so neat to me.. I came from a Redtail squad in CFS.. I looked around and there was no Redtail squad so I started one.. I had no skins though and did did not have a clue as to how to skin. I was looking around and there was a guy named IAFS_Painter who was showing some skins he had just made. Her I wa a total noob to IL2 .. I asked him if he could make me a Redtail skin in the La-5 ad the P-39 which were the planes I preferred to fly at the time.. He said give me a few days... he got back to me in about a week..

Not only did he make me a Redtail skin for each aircraft.. he made 16 of them.. One for each squadron of the 332nd with the Redtail that is typically seen on the P-51Ds with the angled tail ...

but also the older styled Redtail as seen on many of the earlier P-51Cs...

and he did that for each plane.. 16 skins in total..

I was totally floored by that.. Here I was a noob.. and when I first got on the CFS Zone a year prior to that .. I couldn't even get anyone to help me get into a server because that was my very first time even trying to get online in any game and I just had to figure it out, and this guy took his time to do this for me .. a complete stranger.. I was sold on the IL2 comunity from that day on by that one act of kindness..

Since that time I have learned to make my own skins and a bunch of other stuff all because some Russian guy decided to make a WWII sim.. so it is fitting that my first skin in BoS be of an La.

Now I have to do a Yak... wink

I like the skinpack system RoF has because it makes getting all the skins so easy. For a WWII sim there's obvious reasons why the authentic skins can't be from the developer though.

Nice skins Sir.It is nice to see that now there is a way for user made skins to be used in BOS. How do you choose them in SP, Campaign or in MP?? <------ a serious question???

I don't think they can be used in the campaign.. I have used them in QMs so far and in MP they can be used on unranked servers.. which will probably be in the majority once the Dserver and ME are released. See the quote from Jason above as for how it will work. If you want to see a user's skin you will have to have it on your HD.

Nice one Bearcat, one of my favourites from those released so far, along with vonPilsner's red-winged Yak:

Bearcat,

These are really nice skins. Also finding some great skins on the BoS forum. Then I read this...

P.S. You don't have to answer that, its not your doing. Just blows my mind.

That should not be a surprise. Bear in mind that the skins viewer was not finished when the campaign was released. The locked skins in the campaign are based on this thread dated April, 18,2014. I know it sounds to us like a simple enough feature.. but just likle the unlocks we really do not know how long it would take or how many limited resources would have to be diverted from the ME and the DServer in order to make these changes. The campaign has probably been in existence for the last 3 months at least (taking into account testing) even though it was released in October.. we just got the skins viewer a few days ago and it was in Alpha a month ago.. sop there is all kinds of stuff going on behind the scenes that we are not privy to.

BC can you do a Lagg "white hot" But instead of the 29 put a 13 on it? I would but I know nothing about photoshop, gimp, layers or how to do it.I'd show a screenshot but I have yet to unlock it.

I had the same thing happen in DCS, as a total noob, but I wanted a custom skin for the Dora so I just asked this JST guy if he could alter a skin to include the 13 I use and in a half hour he PM'd me the download. I though wow that was nice so if you see this in DCS.. its me.

and yeah thats how you will see me, shot up and crashed! biggrin
