Soooo, I tried forcing DCS Open Beta to update today. Am I the only one who was "rewarded" with an almost 16 GB "update" that wound up not updating anything, and as of now has hidden itself somewhere on my computer? I'm not even kidding, I can't find where it went, and my hard drive is down by 16 GB. Would I be correct in sensing that the updater may have malfunctioned a tad or two?

A major reason why I do not share my missions for other people/servers is because the miz files are open to anyone who might change the scenario. I work hard on these 'stories' and want them protected against unauthorized changes. So this new feature is welcome. Heck, I might even be able to answer my wife that I made some money for all the time invested...

But, I have to add that many (most) of my missions have AI vehicles that need to get to where they are going for the mission to play out correctly, and sadly, these are broken because the vehicles get stuck on the roads and bridges.

I thought that bug was fixed in 1.2.12

Of course, the flipside is when you release a mission for free, you have no obligations. If a patch in 2 weeks breaks it, oh well.
You sell a mission or campaign, and an update breaks it, you can bet you're on the hook to support it by redoing as many of the triggers and missions as needed to get it working again with the latest version or there will be hell to pay.

There was this changelog entry from December 12th and 1.2.12 --

Quote:
With DCS 1.2.12 we launch DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst for DCS World and bring some major fixes for existent projects.
1.2.12 will be available as Open Beta for a while.

DCS Bf 109 K-4 module added

DCS World
Fixed bug with ground units jumps to the bridge

I play a lot of Combined Arms. When I read the above, I thought it was a fix for when a vehicle is moving nearby, under a bridge, and suddenly it will fly through the air up onto the pavement of the bridge. We are still seeing vehicles stuck on bridges and stacking up, so I do not think that bug is squashed, yet.

And Jedi Master is right about the obligations that would come with a purchased mission. There is a pretty well established idea that with every major update, each mission must be saved under that version, so there is another expectation. And I'm sure there will be plenty of advice and suggestions on how to improve a mission after it is released. Getting paid for a mission is not as important to me as being able to lock it down against unauthorized changes, although beer money would be nice smile

The bridge bug fix was for all of the instances where AI snapped to the top of a bridge that they were driving under or near. As far as I know nothing has changed in terms of getting stuck via the other causes, for example evasive maneuvering and getting to close to the side of the bridge.

Do they get stuck all the time or just when dispersing?

We have been flying The Highway a lot lately, and find stacks of them on the bridges. There is one place about 2/3 down The Highway where a RR bridge passes OVER the road and the convoys have stacked up onto that!

I'd say it was a result of the vehicles driving down the road, not dispersing.

Because of this conversation and the new update, I will pay more attention to this issue...

Yep, and I do have to say the FM for the A-10A is pretty good and enjoyable.

Think they gave the A-10A the same FM the A-10C has.

Dunno, I can pull turns better in the A than in the C in some cases, so okay.

Maybe but I was flying it clean with full load of gun after an aborted attempt to aerial refuel (been years since I've done either US or Russian and the poor KC-135A flew into the mountains) so I took it in the mountains. Kinda like a laden African Swallow versus an European laden Swallow. Overall though I'm not complaining, just like it that's all.
