"It takes forever +/- 2 weeks for the A-10 to get anywhere significant..." Ice
"Ha! If it gets him on the deck its a start!" MigBuster
"What people like and what critics praise are rarely the same thing. 'Critic' is just another one of those unnecessary, overpaid, parasitic jobs that the human race has churned out so that clever slackers won't have to actually get a real job and possibly soil their hands." Sauron
I've been usin' voice recognition software for quite a few years now, and it compliments any controller setup nicely. VoiceAttack itself is excellent, I can't recommend it enough if your in the market. I'm currently usin' it w/ Elite: Dangerous the most, and just like any programmable input device, you can use it w/ anything that accepts keyboard input. The software also allows you to assign audio file playback (i.e. confirmations) to commands a well, which is where you'll find the most utility when comparing it to other options.
"You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with 'til ya understand who's in ruttin' command here."
I use VAC http://www.dwvac.com/download.html It's probably got the worst website on the modern internet, but it all works really well - in Windows 8.1 x64 as well.
I use it to talk to the ATC, instead of hitting the hot keys. But it will work for anything that can accept mouse or keyboard input.
Voice Attack borders on being a must-have for Star Citizen. A number of citizens have shared VA scripts with the community. A.N.N.A. is probably the best one. Monkeh, the author, has even given 'her' an emotional state that varies depending upon how you interact with 'her'.
If you are going to use VA's text-to-speech capabilities to provide voice responses, be aware that there are 3rd party sources for voices that sound much better than what is provided with Windows. IVONA has quite a variety to choose from, though they can be bought for less through other providers. IVONA's UK-Amy voice is what Monkeh used in his A.N.N.A. (although you can use whichever you prefer), and it is excellent.
Here's a demo from several month ago... it's been improved upon since then:
