I liked it, but like the BoS trailers people are going to get super, super pissy about it because it's not 1-1 gameplay footage. Largely a reason I try to hang around SimHQ and dislike your average "gamer" with a deep passion wink

As a commercial it's fine by me.

Well that trailer had a LOT of poetic licence.

To be honest, didn't like it for a number of reasons. IMO there is no need to "stretch" the realms of reality that much


Fighterops...

The only TRUE Stealth crowd funded game.

Devs said there was stuff there, but you just couldn't see it.

WTF? Doesn't Frontier have enough trouble commercializing the game? That commercial is borderline with fake.

There will be some howls of disappointment on the 16th. I think I will stay clear of the E: D forum when the game is launched, what with we want Guilds, we want crafting, we want to pwn noobz etc.

The odd thing is, they could have very easily edited together some real game footage to produce something even more impressive because it's real and equally as exciting. The graphics and sound are great. There is lots of brilliant looking dogfighting action in planetary rings and around capital ships. Even without the benefit of the external views the devs have access to, you could cherry pick from Youtube videos and make an awesome trailer.

I've had my fair share of movie quality action moments during normal play.

Of course even then, focusing on space battles sells the game as a whole short and will appeal to an audience who likely won't like the pacing of the real game. The number of people in the beta who expected a first-person action oriented version of Eve is already disturbingly high.

Because of this, I can perhaps see the publisher's reticence to get behind a space sim over the last 10 years. Very few people under the age of 30 even really know what a space sim is.

Well, in complete honesty the Daedalus trailer was MUCH much better composed. Quite an honest envision of things to come.

The latest (beside the very cool music- me love Royal Blood) is not Elite.

How are the trading and exploration aspects of the game? Can you do it without fighting or is combat a main focus of ED?

You have ratings based on combat, trade, and exploration. Keep in mind that even if you strictly stick to a trading or exploration path you'll still find yourself in situations left and right where you're going to get shot at. The only difference is in a fat old trading ship you'll want to invest in defensive tools that'll help you run away, or find some friends to provide a constant escort.

I'd look on YouTube for recent gameplay videos, I'm not really sure what your tolerance for combat is but it's not like the X games where you can amass a giant trading federation and get shot at maybe once in the whole game.

For exploration, well, that's been dangerous ever since Crom went out to explore that one lake and got eaten by a dinosaur wink

I am tempted to disagree with this - when I was in a trader or kitted for mining, I never had to fire a single shot in anger except against those damn Asteroids, of course.
Things might have changed, esp. with the last update that seems to increase chances for interdictions (but I could always avoid such attempts) and pirates in asteroid clusters.
Even if attacked, with shields and thrusters you should still be able to escape to supercruise.

Right, but I still kinda consider that "combat". There's no pacifist path anywhere in the game where no one will ever boot up weapons against you, your sorry butt is going to get yanked out of supercruise regularly and you're going to have to do something about running into unsavory characters.

It all depends on his perceptions of what's acceptable when it comes to use of force.

Thanks a lot! That made things much clearer. I think it's safe to say that combat is not essential but sometimes necessary:) Will work for me.

Since I started back up in Gamma, interdictions seem more prevalent, to the point of multiple interdiction attempts on a single trip. This is not in anarchy space, mind you, but in Federation controlled systems. It is much easier now to evade an interdiction but if you submit to it and are dropped out of supercruise, it seems much more difficult to escape. The few times I wasn't able to avoid, as soon as I dropped out, the interdictor was right on me and had my shields down within a few seconds versus before when it would take them a few seconds to drop in at a farther distance away.

It also seems longer for the supercruise to charge because of the disruptive mass. All of this, mind you, from a "master" ai sidewinder attacking my Eagle -_-

I was finally able to escape with 6% hull remaining.

Exactly, and the game gives you the option to equip your ship the make the choice between fight or flight.

The latest patch notes mentioned they made a bunch of tuning to interdiction frequency, so I'm hoping it becomes less repetitive and more plausible.

I thought it was a terrific trailer. Some day I will have the time and energy to start playing again and make enough money to actually buy something. I think I'll be waiting for the planetary landings though, I like the sound of that.

When I want to get away, I think I can avoid 90% of the interdictions. As I unfortunatly went into a relative dead area of the Galaxy, I let it happen often lately (throttling back mostly ends in an interdiction) to get some bounties to pay the bills. That said, my ship "Solenopsis II" is a slightly upgraded Cobra, which can compete with many ships, if the opponent is overwhelming, it`s fast enough to escape into SC again. The repair bills aren`t fun then though.

Similar for me, I am in a well-pimped Cobra (worth ~4 million credits, ~160k insurance). I accept all interdictions, scan the opponent with the Kill Warrant Scanner, and usually fight it out. That's how I earn most of my money nowadays - and with Gamma 2.0 this was desperately needed - paid yesterday ~40k to repair 100% wear-and-tear damage, that's ~2/3 of what I earned from exploration in that time. But it is said that they fixed that with 2.01, wear-and-tear accumulating much slower, but I haven't tested that yet.

A trailer that is prefaced with a tiny and brief "Not Actual Game Footage"..that shows gameplay that pretty much isn't what we will expect upon release.

What could possibly go wrong with people who buy it based on the trailer?
