I remember watching the game and being numb after the announcement. Not a huge fan but the suddenness of it combined with the notoriety of the man involved really hit hard.

I was 8 years old at the time and I'm pretty sure I heard about Lennon's death from my dad who was watching the tv.

Getting ready to be born in less than a month! But my parents were big Beatle fans and we lived in Brooklyn at the time so imagine it was shocking news to say the least.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

A little over a month into my new job after getting out of the Navy.

I didn't like seeing him being taken out by violence like that, but I can't say it touched me deeply.

34 years ago (December 9th 1980) I was a Sgt. in the Marines stationed at MCAS El Toro in VMFA 531. Earlier that same year I launched the alert 5 for Operation Eagle Claw.

A little over 12 years old, probably angry at one of my favorite TV shows being pre-empted by stupid Rudolph or Frosty.

I have no idea. I do remember thinking "Meh, one less rich hippy," though. The Beatles were long gone are over (and thankfully so; they split up before they started to really suck) by the time he was killed.

The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events.

I was working working in my home town at the time. I thought it was very unfortunate but it didn't affect me any more than when Hendrix or Jim Morrison died. It was just a news item to me.

1980 kinda sucked for losing actors. Steve McQueen, Peter Sellers, etc... Alfred Hitchcock, Dorothy Stratton, Jay Silverheels, "Buckwheat", Jimmy Durante.

Started to realize, we were starting to lose my childhood celebs. So Lennon was just added to the list at the time. Also the start of the sidewalk assassination shootings and attempts. frown

Dorothy Stratton was one of your childhood celebs?? confused

I remember my mom telling me it happened, I knew the Beatles' music but none of John's solo work at the time. I don't remember thinking much other than "I guess there will be no reunion now".

I wasn't born yet. It wasn't until I started listening to music that I became a fan of the Beatles. Peter Brown co-wrote a book called: "The Love You Make" and in it there is a paragraph that has stuck with me:

"She (Yoko Ono) was back at the Dakota shortly after midnight. Alone. She called three people that night. She called Julian, who had lost the father he'd never known; she called Aunt Mimi, who lost the little boy she once pretended was her own; and she called Paul, who lost the chance to redeem part of his soul."

I don't know, Paul said the two of them were at peace and they visited often. They just couldn't talk about the 60s more or less. Anything before the Beatles, sure. Anything after the split, sure. Apple? ARGH!!

Of course, Peter Brown called to say you can make it ok you can get married in Gibraltar near Spain.

Not even alive. Watching the video I do find it really odd that they mentioned his death right in the middle of the game, I can't imagine the announcers for a Packers game taking time from the event to let me know someone like (for example) Ozzie Osbourne had been shot. Kinda odd, but then I wasn't around for the Beatles mania so I guess I don't know.

I was in grade 8. Recall hearing "watching the wheels" a lot over the course of Christmas vacation.

Woman, as well.

I was a different time though, only three network stations and a public broadcasting station (US). So any breaking news you got was from TV or radio.

EDIT: And no channel surfing those 3 stations (the public doesn't count), who had remote control in 1980?

Two suns in the sunset, hmph
