http://www.lazygamer.net/general-news/amd-overhauls-catalyst-introduces-super-sampling/

From what I was told, this driver is completely different from Previous Catalyst's and uses a new Driver Architecture.

It was developed by a Separate/New Driver Team hired specifically to fix the driver problems.

They included features that were originally external programs (ie Super Sampling and stuff from other applications (ie Radeon Pro).

They also dumped the old Video Processing Driver model for a new one (dropping the original one designed to run on Windows XP).

These are the driver's I've been waiting for, supposedly should fix alot of DPMS Off/Sleep mode blue screens when system turns off my screens, as well as Cross fire issues.

Thanks for the inside info.

I read the drivers may be available within a week -- some folks are saying Tuesday (we'll see). The new approach to super sampling may help (if my HD7970 can implement it and it can be activated independently of the game) -- as I am playing a few circa 2000 games now.

Maybe it will fix the issue I have with video corruption when I try to play certain videos with 2 monitors connected. it never happens when I only have 1 monitor. It doesn't make a difference if it's another physical or virtual monitor. I'm at the point where I'm probably going to switch to Nvidia by years end.

My last card, a 6970, had issues with white flashing boxes in DCS When HDR was turned on. This occurred with newer drivers. Now, this issue with the 7970 has pretty much soured me on AMD.

I think the new features require a Hawaii GPU

According to the slides, supersampling is the only feature that requires a 290-285 gpu.

EDIT: Also, Nvidia released DSR first only for 980/970 cards, then for the rest. Who knows, maybe AMD will do the same.

Ahh! I just installed a water-cooled R295 card and looking forward to giving this new driver a try.

IIRC, the last big Features Update/Crossfire/Memory Re-Write was for Hawaii First then GCN 1.0 Cards.

But If I can sell my 7970 Lightnings and get a R9-295x2 w/ 4 Mini DPs I might consider it.

I'm loving my R9-295x2! It's quiter, and cooler than my old 7970 Ghz Edition card. The 4 mini DP connectors are bringing back my sanity also... No more screen tearing on the 3rd monitor! I do have all native-DP monitors.

I really hope the new driver rewrite fixes a lot of small nagging issues AMD seems unable to cure...

Its available. Downloading Catalyst Omega now.

Edit: The "Firestrike" benchmark ran less than 1 percent faster -- possibly normal variation.

Had a problem. Some games worked, some did not load at all. After research, it had something to do with the AMD Driver package.

Solution: Have to manually uninstall the old drivers and reboot -- before installing new driver. Works so far.

Normally, I do not have to do that with any new AMD driver -- though it is recommended.

I'll likely uninstall my current ones anyway as Im sure 1 year of DLL abuse is prolly gonna cause some core issues. I need to package up the DLLs that I inject into specific games just in case. If performance suffers with the new drivers, I'll just re-inject those DLLs back into those games.

So I can keep the new new drivers to run globally, but some games I'll have to use Cat 14.41 and 14.3 DLLs for.

I always do this. Always. Call it a habit from back in the early days of Windows driver management. Plus, AMD has stated that before installing any new driver package, if you're running Beta drivers they HAVE to be uninstalled first.

Hello everyone, I culminated all the questions you had from this thread in regards to Catalyst Omega and sent those questions over to AMD to get you guys answers. I have the responses. A big thank you to Robert Hallock for the answers.

Question: Will there be support of 4K VSR (3840x2160) on Hawaii R9 290X/290 in the future?
RH: We do intend to extend 4K downsampling to all R9 and R7 Series products, 260 and up, with a driver in the Jan/Feb timeframe.

Question: Any updates on a CrossFire profile for Far Cry 4?
RH: We have currently disabled CrossFire support for Far Cry 4, as the developer must make additional client-side updates before mGPU will provide a smooth experience.

Question: Will it be possible in the future to support VSR on 1440p displays at greater than 60Hz? Is this a bandwidth issue, or something that can be supported?
RH: We are exploring additional resolution/refresh combinations beyond what was provided in AMD Catalyst Omega, but we have not determined the complete matrix. However, we do intend to extend 4K downsampling to all R9 and R7 Series products, 260 and up, with a driver in the Jan/Feb timeframe.

Question: In regards to PLP Eyefinity, which GPUs support this, is it only R9 285 and if so, will there be support on other GPUs in the future?
RH: This is a hardware-level capability, and is therefore limited to the R9 285 at this time.

Question: Will VSR work on 21:9 ratio displays? If not now, in the future?
RH: We are exploring additional resolution/refresh combinations beyond what was provided in AMD Catalyst Omega, but we have not determined the complete matrix. However, we do intend to extend 4K downsampling to all R9 and R7 Series products, 260 and up, with a driver in the Jan/Feb timeframe.

Question: Will Catalyst Omega be the only WHQL certified driver once a year, or will you release other subsequent WHQL certified driver releases throughout the year in addition to Omega?
RH: There will be other WHQL releases throughout the year.

Question: Is Windowed gaming CrossFire mode supported? If not, will it be in the future?
RH: Windowed CrossFire is not supported at this time, however we well understand that community desires this feature.

Thank you to Robert Hallock for the answers.

Alot of people want VSR on GCN1.0

I dontcare right now anywya as it doesnt work with 3-5 screens, but when I go Oculus Rift it might be very valuable.

Yes, I did not mention my "first" install -- Black Screen of Death.

Second install seemed to work -- as noted above -- some games did not.

Third time (after uninstall) was the "charm".

Perhaps, its an offshoot of the fact that these are supposed to be drivers based on an entirely "new" code. The system has to really be clean of anything "old". Anyhow, no big deal -- in the end.

OK, I got it now,

Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, AMD Catalyst Install Manager, Express Uninstall (Takes a Bit to complete for me), Reboot, Ensure nothing AMD is in programs list.

Run the Installer as Admin (as I think it doesnt by default which leads to display driver signing issue, then the issue above), renamed the extraction folder (added a -1) to make it a new folder,

Installed using Express Option, NO errors, Reboot,

Gravy so far, now I'm just re-building my main profiles for screen arrangement.

Also, had to re-download Raptr/AMD Gaming Evolved App Detection File, Copy it, modify it to detect non steam versions of some games, save as read only and add manually those games back (DCS World being one of them).

My issue was the installer did not automatically call for an elevation/ run as admin, so it failed to install parts of the driver. Had to force it to run as Admin by right clicking and "Run as Admin".

No improvement in DCS. Sniper Elite 3 benchmark shows a 7 FPS increase, this could also be due to running win 8.1 now and having the game on a new 500GB SSD. But, the biggest issue is the problem with video corruption after I connect a 2nd monitor, either virtual or physical (It doesn't even have to be on) and I try to play certain videos is not fixed.

So, goodbye AMD. I'll be buying an Nvidia video card in the next few weeks, and I'm also going to replace my CPU and MOBO with Intel.

So, goodbye AMD. I'll be buying an Nvidia video card in the next few weeks, and I'm also going to replace my CPU and MOBO with Intel.

I dont get that... I have 5 screens (4 monitors + hdtv) and I can abuse it to where I have like 4 videos on each screen w/ no problems.

Sounds like a codec, ffd, or hardware issue w/ hardware decoding.
