Hi everyone,

I reisntalled my LOMAC Gold and the starfoce box that said "only these versions of windows."

Does this mean that Lock on is useless and I have to buy it from DCS directly now?

Thanks,
Stefnuts

UPDATE:

Just installed both patches: 1.1a & 1.1b (or however they were named)
Unfortuneately, My version of Lock on is from Evolved Games AND LOMAC w/FC1 is only comptible with
Win 95/98/ME/XP/2000.

Time for DCS World! LOL

Yeah, the old SF DRM just doesn't work with modern OS.

Actually, it didn't work well on the older ones either! smile

To be honest, DCSW with FC3 is much better in every respect. The only thing we don't have (yet) is the Crimean Peninsula, which you can still use with a non-FC Lock On install.

Assuming you have the hardware to run it (you'll want at least a GTX 460 or a DX11 compatible card for the upcoming 2.0 update), there is nothing that will make you go back. Everything except the MiG-29 now has a 6DOF 3D cockpit, and everything except the MiG and Su-33 also has an advanced flight model (AFM+/PFM if you want to be technical) that exceeds the Su-25T.

Combine this with being able to fly multiplayer with the Ka-50, A-10C, and all other DCSW modules, and you have a quantum leap in value.

HomeFries, you're right about all the technical improvements that came with FC2/ FC3, but you have to remember that when it comes to single player missions and campaigns, LOMAC and FC still win hands down- that's the reason why I still have the original Flaming Cliffs installed on my system.

Oh, and a working logbook.

I never really messed with the LOMAC campaigns because I was flying F4AF and IL-2 campaigns at the time. I'll defer to your good judgement on this.

I recently found LOMAC Gold at the thrift store I work at. It was great until I decided to install the Flaming Cliffs part.
I have DCS world with FC3, but I wanted to play the older sims too every so often. The problem came with the Starforce thing. First I tried it on my Win 8 PC, but that didn't work. It said it needed to run on 95-XP. So I did the logical thing and installed XP on a virtual machine. I got the same message. So now I just want to know if I'll be able to play the original FC and if so, how?

I wouldn't even go there with the old Starforce. Even if you do get it running, old Starforce was rootkit. Just keep a vanilla LOMAC on the HDD so you can fly the Crimea, and don't worry about FC1.

Still it is very hard to understand WHY we cannot use something we bought when the compatibility issue is ONLY with the stupid starforce

AFAIK you can use LOMAC without Flaming Cliffs just fine.

I have FC2 still installed and it's so much better than 1.1
