Idle suggestion : How about just adding a pilot scream sound if he gets hit / killed? If your pilot display doesn't show reduced health and / or blood spatter, you can be fairly sure your gunner just "bought it". Poor fellow!

Easily missed in the fracus so we are also aiming for a constant status display (NO PROMISES)...but we have plenty of ideas - just be patient is all.

I flew a few QC and had my gunner track and shoot (killed) an Albatros D.II only when it was on our beam. And I was maneuvering at the time...go figure. So I was hopeful this would carry over into the campaign. But my two deaths were campaign missions.

In June 1917, 11 Sqdn RFC is rated as Good. There are a boat load of Pilot Aces. Checking Franks/Guest/Alegi Above The War Fronts I can find a couple Observer Aces in 11 Sqdn for 1917.

BTW...I really like the way you lag rolled around the 1:00 mark and later in your fight against the French N17 ace. Very pretty! Recognizing the need to lag roll is just like recognizing when you've entered your adversary's turn circle...hard to teach, but once you "see" it, then you just do it. Well done sir!

WM I truly appreciate the effort OBD puts into this most outstanding simulator. I grasp the limiting factors that influence the ability of a gunner to track and hit a target. I'm simply making an observation, not criticizing. There is so much to enjoy with your product!

I also can appreciate that readers may be skeptical that I can fly a stable platform for the gunner. So to see if I might be ham fisted, I fired up RoF putting my BrisFit in front of a bandit. I found no reluctance by a RoF gunner to shoot. Oh the RoF gunners will expend their entire load barely hitting anything, but they shoot. Just an observation...not a complaint.

Are you sure that you weren't just watching a video of the first time I flew RoF? biggrin

I am not sure at the moment, but after some flights attacking 2 seaters I´d say their acuracy is way too high,...Dead or heavily injured every single mission, I know I am a bad pilot, b...well, even a Fe2 can kill my Alb D.V easily now,..

In Workshop, do you have Rear Gunner set to Inaccurate?

I haven't noticed much of a difference between the two settings. Every bit helps, I suppose. yep

Just leave weapons at normal and stay constantly at angles.Just takes practice as I am now shooting down Gotha in a Snipe without getting shot. You need to come at them at an angle and below and then pull nose up under them as you pass and spray. Its hard to do and feels hard but that means the enemy has a hard time firing on you also. biggrin

Now the thing is though....the Snipe is a wonder plane and allows you to easily dictate how you attack or rather what angle.I cant see doing anything but suicide against Gotha's in the slower planes as you just cant get ahead and then come in on angle you choose.I think I will be a very non heroic pilot when I get around to trying a BE2C HD campaign with firing a few shots and then just letting em go as I head for the nurse tent. zombie

Then I tried some DFW C.V's and easily took them down for two attempts.Third attempt I just flew straight at it and was turned to a flaming coffin.

Then I went into two seaters and wow its fun now.Strutters against Albatross D.II's and if you play it right they have a hard time shooting you down now. When at a distance and they are gaining at you just try to present good angles to gunner and keep changing the angle slightly.Just slight changes I noticed seem to wake up the gunner at times when he just seems to stare off into distance. When enemy gets close then just time it right and turn in to avoid being shot.I even just now got away in a Morane L from the pesky Albatross's....thank God for the realistic morale function in WOFF.

Really fun and my Roland C.II career is off to a good start. dizzy ready

The 2-seater pilot puts it into a bank and the gunner will shoot down at a steep angle at you.. with deadly accuracy per usual.

Ideal behavior but the gunner will still hit you in no time. Adjusting heading to get back under the tail for the roller coaster ride doesn't last long until he's shooting down at you again, which should probably be more difficult to aim - with the rear of the gun tilted up so high.

This is all well & good but they seem to be just as good at the longer range and/or areas of very high gun traverse (such as below them) where I'd think their accuracy would suffer compared to normal.

I also seem to be encountering only flights of 5 DFWs at a time, in the campaign in late '17. I would expect to see singles and pairs much of the time, possibly with an escorting flight higher above, considering the historical references.

Thanks guys.

I'm adding a new ssd to my system which I received after turkey day. I'll be transferring all my installed programs from the non-ssd drive which will take a few days to complete.

In the meantime, I've made a video story this time just to experiment.

EDIT: Thanks for the feedback. When I get a chance, I will change the dialogue to about 20 hours flight time and use "France" instead of Europe.

Lovely vid - a Tardis trip back in time. I must say you were very fortunate to log 50 hours before you were posted to France. Very unusual at that stage of the war

Wonderful Vid. That's the things I love. Stories, not necessarily fights and action. The fights will come for sure anyway, so showing the origins etc. Keep em going thumbsup

p.s. as you wrote that he went over to Europe. Great Britain is also Europe, so when they said they are going to war, they said they are going to France salute

ArisFuser, there's nothing wrong with the accuracy it has not changed! You can set it to lower accuracy for your personal preferences.

A Lewis gun is designed to be a lethal weapon obviously. If you have ever been shot at you know how bad that feels.
Especially bad if you are almost a stationary object relative to the craft you will often die. For example flying at 100mph from behind towards him you are just a growing target for him wink

Keep moving stay well below. If a gunner has spotted you and the craft is manoeuvring so they can kill you, guess what might happen? If a guy is firing at you why would you keep flying at him? Gambling with your life? Imagine you had 1 life, and didn't fancy getting a bullet between the eyes.

Wrong thread for this discussion anyway..

When I said stay at angles I meant to say constantly change your angle. While attacking a Gotha I fly level with it until I feel I am a good distance in front of it.I then bank and turn into the Gotha's path.As I am turning the plane towards the Gotha it is catching up to me and as its ready to pass me I am still turning which makes for a harder target to hit.Make the turn wide as they bleed less speed and you don't wanna fly by the plane at slow speeds exposing your side. Its not easy to do and if you feel that you wont line up right as you are about to meet then break off.You should know when you are doing something risky.I chased one Gotha way deep into the English channel before I finally downed it.

And if you are flying towards a 2seater and they bank to get a better shot at you then you should turn away as you are now playing chicken with the enemy and you will both end up dead.

Again though this is with a wonder plane like the Snipe that can control the angles.I salute the men who flew against Gotha's with slow planes. eek2 ~S~

Just wanna add that some things look off when fighting 2seaters and could be improved upon to add moreZZ goodness.First is that as you make passes at the planes you,I presume, whittle away at the pilots health and many times the enemy plane will go into a weird looking stall.Wings banked and trying to lift the nose up and the plane just drops out of the sky unnaturally until it hits the ground.

Second is the way the wings just explode off the planes looks weird.Someone added that to the wish list awhile back so its already in there. One other thing, and this could be just me,is that when you make a planes wings explode off the plane the explosion sound is way too loud.I would think you wouldn't even hear anything. exitstageleft

Robert, that was a cool crash... errr.....sorry about your pilot's death.

I wouldn't know how to attack a Gotha even to save my life. But I read that slashing shots directed at either engine works better then below and low. *shrug*

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.

Yes, you may be correct, I'm rethinking my approach, and the pilot was just a tester.
