Haven't seen him in the trailers for anything new, or anything since those two.

Just looked at IMDB and the 2 main things he's done since are "Lone Survivor" and that tv show "True Detective". It seems that Hollywood gave him 2 chances to be a leading man in big budget films and now he's relegated to tv shows and supporting roles in films.

I actually kinda liked Battleship, as a leave-your-brain-at-the-door action movie it wasn't half bad. It was cool to see the USS Missouri get to stretch her legs again smile

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

"Battleship" was essentially Transformers + Iowa class BB. smile

I really liked Battleship. Yes, obviously a fun cheesy actioner but it hit ALL the right fun cheesy action buttons.

Good humour, decent cast chemistry, good effects, fun script.

Liked it way better than others of its ilk.

I saw enough of it to notice the stylistic, editing, pacing and action sequences that were obviously based on the Transformers films. I watched about 40 minutes of it before I stopped. The film was just way too bombastic and idiotic for me.

Conversely, I found Transformers to be unwatchable but Battleship to be quite entertaining. And from such idiosyncrasies the great cinema-going public is formed smile

I finally watched "Interstellar" over the weekend at the IMAX theater. I avoided all reviews and comments about the film before entering the theater.

Interstellar has simply beautiful visual effects hampered by a poor story-telling and too much plot exposition.
I enjoyed watching McConaghay (sp) and the actor who played his daughter. Even with all the problems I had about "Interstellar" I would recommend people watch this film.
imho,ymmv, of course

Which actor that played his daughter? The little girl, the adult woman or the old lady? wink

Just saw it a few days ago. I must say I was very impressed with the visuals and their take on Einstein's Theory of Relativity and black holes.

The background of the story was a little hard to grip at first, and some parts tend to drag a little too long; but overall I would recommend it. It's one of those movies that actually makes you think, which is somewhat rare these days. I also thought it had some very similar vibes as 2001: Space Odyssey; especially the docking sequences; and some things towards the end that I won't spoil.

You mean, they didn't start making this film with today's technology in 1891 !?

I loved it. If they don't get a pile of Oscars, someone needs a swift kick in the nuts.

I saw this over the weekend.. I enjoyed it. It is one of those films where you find yourself going Hmmmmmm well after you leave the theater. Jessica Chastain was a pleasant surprise for me.. I didn't know she was in it. That woman is just .. umph umph umph... There is just something about her...

Agreed. Transformers is almost unwatchable (I tried, I really did), but Battleship was actually entertaining. And who could possibly tire of looking at Brooklyn Decker on screen? I'd take her over that pale, bony actress from Transformers.

As far as Interstellar goes, the main problem with it that can't be excused by saying it is science FICTION (which it is) is the piss poor dialogue. A first year film student couldn't write dialogue as "on the nose" as some of the dialogue in that movie. It just shows that any script can get greenlighted if it contains a salable story, no matter how poor the dialogue.

...and yet, it still is the best science fiction movie of the last years. I mean, we're blasting it for six pages now, I suppose it means that it has some merits after all. wink

The film has its flaws but nonetheless it's a film that makes you wonder and contemplate and in my opinion that's always a great quality for a film to have.
