I managed to get a copy of the Advanced version of this game with the 27 chapter book and cadet guide & map, etc.

Now, I need help installing BMS!

I noticed that the "in game" software settings are 800 x 640 for Falcon 4.0 by Microprose.

Hopefully BMS improves upon that.

Installation is pretty "simple" once you know what you're doing.

The process goes like this:

- You extract the installation files. Do not install yet.
- Then you extract the update files into the installation folder you just created ("data" folder).
- Do this for each update.
- Here it's a good time to do a backup of this installation folder for the future.
- Run the installation. It should detect that you have update 1 to 7 available to install.

Key aspect is your graphics card driver. Not all versions work the same and some don't even work.

How do I check the hashes please?

A quick way of doing it, use a program like this one: http://getmd5checker.com/download (no install required which is a good thing)

Edit > Add/Open and it will show you the MD5 checksum there.

Remember that the checksum is for the actual "Falcon_BMS_4.32_Update_X.exe" file, no .zip or any other file.

EDIT: BTW, you don't need to install Falcon 4.0. The BMS installation will ask for the disk.

BUT

Updates 1-6.....BIG problems:

All 3 non-torrent links are showing the DirectX June 2010 redistr. as being a virus!

I'm on the BMS forums with Blu3wolf and he told me what to do but
I don't see applications for Updates 1,2,3,4,5,6

Did someone hack into the site?

I've spent HOURS trying to download that part of BMS unsuccessfully man.

You might want to notify the site owner or moderator........I can't believe all this wasted time.

Just because some software said it was a virus, doesn't mean it was a virus. You should be careful, but false positives do happen. The mirrors listed in the thread have not been hacked. They are the correct file. Check the hashes on the zip if you want, but it's going to match.

Don't download updates 1-6. You don't need them. Get the 4.32 installer with U1-U6 already applied instead. Why would you deliberately get an old version and have to update it 7 times? It makes no sense.

You need two files:
Falcon_BMS_4.32_Setup_plus_U1-U6.zip (875 MB)
Falcon_BMS_4.32_Update_7.exe (24.9 MB)

Unzip the first file into a folder. If you run the contents of this folder it installs BMS version 4.32U6. You can do this and update the installed software later but it's not the most straightforward way. For a first time install it makes the most sense to upgrade the installation package first to the latest version and then install that latest version the firs t time.

So you run the Falcon_BMS_4.32_Update_7.exe and look for the folder you unzipped Falcon_BMS_4.32_Setup_plus_U1-U6.zip to. It replaces and adds some files to that folder. Now when you install the game it installs the 4.32U7 version.

If however you already had installed 4.32U6 and wanted to patch to 4.32U7, what you have to do is upgrade the installer like the above paragraph and then run the installer again. The installer then becomes a patcher and patches the existing installation.

If you think you've lost time, just wait until you get the bugger installed and finally play it.
