A thread to get other people's workshop settings and hardware configurations to "compare notes" on what works and/or looks good. I wanted to make a thread explaining what new DX9 settings are and I think your is a great chance to do it Aircraft Shadow Detail: 0 to 50 turns shadows off, 1-5 controls the quality. 5 is obviously the highest, but 4 will provide comparable result but may work much faster on lower end GPUs. The trick is that at 4 the shadow is still very detailed, but it is not blurred so you may get more jagged edges. However the lack of blurring noticeably improves the performance. Terrain Shadow Detail: 0 to 30 - Off. 1-3 controls the quality. Different quality doesn't directly affect performance much, but it defines how much GPU memory is required. And at 3 the memory use is quite dramatic, so if you have 1GB card and notice that it struggles with the new shaders try reducing the terrain shadow detail. Terrain Bump Map: 0 or 1A simple on/off switch. Cloud Shadow Scale: 0 to 100 - no cloud shadows. 1 to 10 controls the size of clouds on the ground (10% to 100% of their original size). This setting was introduced because the weather is often bad at the Western Front and if someone wants to allow more sun on the ground it may make sense to reduce this setting. Doesn't affect performance (unless you set it to 0 of course). Cloud Shadow Density: 1 to 10The darkness of cloud shadows. 10% to 100%. Again as above it is purely visual preference and doesn't affect performance. VSyncSelf explanatory I hope. Curiously I noticed that enabling VSync (via driver's control panel or via Force On setting) not only prevents screen tearing but also gets rid of some stuttering. External Cam FOV: 20 to 80 (I think) CFS3 was often blamed for fish-eye view in external camera and it took me quite a few hours to find a fix for that. Default setting is 35 which looks quite good without fish-eye distortions, while the stock CFS3 (and WOFF before V2.0) use an equivalent of 60 here.

My workshop is set at 5 3 1 0 10 Anything above 0 on the Cloud Shadow Scale is the Kiss of death . AKA: Crash, black screen and DLLs will not load. Why ? Winding man stated that Radeon ( My Vid card HD 5770) cards may not support Cloud Shadows. I think he may be right. The card is kinda long in the tooth although DX 11 was included ( according to published reports) when it was designed. With that said, the game is drop dead beautiful with out it and I am totally happy with game.

oups ! the graphic card specific setting has to be done on CFS3.exe or WOFF.exe ?

Because your GPU is a bit old....
I have a comparably old 560 Ti and none of this happens to me.

Why not make the Anti Aliansing samples in Catalyst not the same as in WoFF Graphics panel??? Experiments in other games did show me that you should use application controlled or keep the adjustments at the same value. If I understand the question correctly you are asking why WOFF doesn't have options for advanced AA modes? Well, the answer is simple - they require additional work to be implemented Those x2, x4, x8 are standard MSAA modes which DirectX specification makes available for any game. And while drivers may have additional antialiasing options they are not "visible" to the game because they aren't part of the DirectX, but part of the driver. The only thing I think is missing from the workshops is the ability to select "No AA". As a TrackIR5 user [hate tearing], I did some experiments on Vsync in RoF. Using Vsync from D3Doverrider, RadeonPro, Catalyst and Rof. The RoF Vsync did show me the best results. Any experience on these. My guess is that enabling v-sync in workshops should be good enough for most cases. However (just like I explained about the antialiasing) the driver may have more elaborate options for v-sync which are specific for your GPU.

I'm running a pretty old machine but am having very good results that have improved with Version 2. I have everything but shadows maxed out and am pulling 25 FPS at the lowest in major dogfights, I consistently get my lowest readings on airfields but even that stays in the 24 to 39 FPS range. It does drop drastically when to to X8 in time compression, which is low single digits.

I was running WOFF workshop graphics maxed out with my current AMD graphics card with the results smooth as silk. As soon as I hit 8 Aug 1918 in Jasta 12 I watched my FPS drop below 30 and experienced stuttering so bad that combat flight was impossible. I went back to a timeframe well before 8 Aug 1918 and everything was fine again. The solution for me was to drop back the shaders settings in workshop along with some of the others in order to get my FPS back up into the 45 to 60 range. Some significant graphics activities are happening from 8th August onwards. How far onwards I don't know but at least for the 8 consecutive days I tested. It seems my graphics card memory is being taxed. Here are the settings I used to resolve my problem for this time frame onward: And here are the settings in my catalyst control centre:
Case: Cooler Master Storm Trooper PSU: Ultra X3,1000-Watt MB: Asus Maximus VI Extreme Mem: Corsair Vengeance (2x 8GB), PC3-12800, DDR3-1600MHz, Unbuffered CPU: Intel i7-4770K, OC to 4.427Ghz CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 240M Liquid CPU Cooler Vid Card: ASUS GTX 980Ti STRIX 6GB OS and Games on separate: Samsung 840 Series 250GB SSD Monitor: Primary ASUS PG27AQ 4k; Secondary Samsung SyncMaster BX2450L Periphs: MS Sidewinder FFB2 Pro, TrackIR 4
