Wow, and I had always thought my EDIROL speakers would be doing a great job with WOFF...

But now they are grinding the floorboards in the flat above mine, and I couldn't hear myself think;
so I picked my ear-covering headphones and flew a mission with those.

And - Wow! - what a sound did I get! I had always thought the machine guns were a bit tickling.
But over headphones they had the real hard, metallic sound!
Everything else appeared much better, stronger, juicier too!

I don't usually like flying under headphones, cause I fear to miss the doorbell or the phone,
or maybe the house is burning and I don't hear the shouting.
But when the working is over, I will use my SENNHEISER headphones - they don't have covering earpieces -
and that should allow to hear the other sounds going on in my place;
and give me these lifesize, "TECHNICOLOR"-sounds!

Good job, Creaghorn!

Olham,
I have been flying with my Bose headphones for about 6 months now and it is fantastic. When Archie goes off near you, one will almost jump out of your seat!

Thank you Olham,

if you consider buying new headphones, I would recommend to buy 5.1 or 7.1 ones.

Normal speakers always have a sort of loss of audibal information. Personally I prefer always headphones over normal speakers. But of course it depends a lot of what kind of speakers you have.

It's a good point, Creaghorn.

I have simple desktop 2.1 speakers at the moment having sold my old Creative 7.1 system, because the stands for the side and rear speakers broke, and I couldn't stand the cables everywhere, and I was thinking about investing in some new speakers.

Purely for PC use and predominantly for WOFF, CloD and BoS (should the SP experience ppick up steam [no pun intended]).

What speakers would people recommend?

I don't like using headphones due to the lack of sensory function that Olham alluded to.

Appreciate any guidance.

R

I meant stereo speakers actually, and I can't imagine they do WOFF justice.

Thank you, Creaghorn, but my SENNHEISER is giving me a brilliant sound quality, and it doesn't cover up my ears.

I have a different experience with WOFF sound. I use the razer megalodon which have 7.1 surround sound (7 channels of sound - Front Center, Right and Left Front, Right and Left Center, Right and Left Rear and Subwoofer).

It seems that WOFF doesn't make use of all the channels. The razer uses an external dial to adjust the volume of each channel separately. Out of 7 channels, WOFF only uses the Right and Left Center and Subwoofer ones. None of the other channels are affected by any amount of adjustments I make. This could mean that WOFF doesn't use surround sound, but only is set up for stereo output, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

I need to mention that my headphones are working fine in control panel and in other games that use 7.1 surround. However, this does not affect my immersion in any way because WOFF taken as a whole sucks me into its world.

WOFF uses all channels and is made to work with surround sound. You can hear where AI is coming from, where the shots are coming from, where the flakburst is etc. Check your windows setting if it is set to 7.1 / 5.1 in the first place. It's not that you plug in 7.1 speakers and everything goes automatically. Windows must be set to 7.1 in your sound configurations. It seems to me it is still set to standart stereo. Then it will only be stereo, no matter what kind of speakers you have.

Thanks for the advice. Here's a snapshot of my setting. I just plugged in the headphones and they were automatically installed with windows as I didn't need to do a thing to set them up.

I always use my Logitech G430 7.1 headphones.
It's a good thing I don't hear the door bell so I'm not bothered by Jehovah's Witnesses or people wanting to sell me something !

I can't use headphones because my brother-in-law is usually seated alongside watching! And so I do have to figure out what you guys have already figured out - how to make my 5.1 Logitech speakers work with WOFF and CFS3. So y'all seem to say there are no settings required in WOFF? As long as Windows is configured to use it, all should be well?

Much thanks...

Any recommendations for speakers, please, chaps?

Please help - Amazon's got loads, but I don't know where to start. I had a Creative SoundBlaster 7.1 (yup, 8 whole speakers, Olham!) before but threw it away. Too many cables running everywhere.

Ideally I'd like a 5.1 system with no cables. My room's not huge, and the walls/ceilings/floor are thin, so I don't need much wattage. It's more for the surround sound, so that I can distinguish from where bullets are coming (usually from behind me!).

Any help gratefully received.

I use headsets, my hounds will alert me if something is going on. Often it just a squirrel or deer coming to a bird feeder.

I'm still wondering if someone can confirm if WOFF sounds emit from all 5 or 7 speakers because I haven't been able to do it.

Confirmed

Do you have any other sound-software which overrides your windows soundsettings maybe?

When you have your windows setting open, did you actually try the speakers you can see by clicking on them? They should play a sound when clicking on it.

Did you plug it in into your subwoofer etc. correctly? Lots of cables with different colours can sometimes be confusing. Correctly plugged into the speaker itself? Do the speakers have each an on and off button?

Ok. Do you recommend a software that will show the individual speakers working while playing a game?

My connection is just a single USB from the headset to the PC. Nothing else to plug in or install. Funny thing is that I can hear each individual speaker in control panel and all speakers work fine while playing ARMA III, RoF, Skyrim, and others. Oh well, it's no biggie to me... I was just curious.
