I don't know, I would guess that with the 2nd game being such a direct descendant of the first that it wouldn't but maybe the conflict is with one of the newer elements.

I have BOB1 but don't have W8 so can't say.

It also occurs to me that if the issues are 3D related you may be able to play the game purely as a strategy game, thats actually how I played BOB1 when I first got it.

This is the A2A thread for BOB2 first few posts seem to point to 3D being the problem.

If you play it strictly as a strategy game you may as well play Gary Grigsby's air strategy games "Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich".

"You'll never take me alive" said he,

You've actually found it for sale? I see here it seems
to be offered as a free download (haven't tried it)
http://www.old-games.com/download/6503/rowan-s-battle-of-britain

Rowan (developer) and Empire (published) are both defunct,
and it's been years since I've seen it offered in an old
sim bundle...

But I see here it seems to be for sale on amazon UK:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rowans-Battle-of-Britain-PC/dp/B000050FV1
seems improbably expensive.

Well, I can tell you this much: BoB1 out of the box had serious
problems. It is best run with the last bdg patch, v0.99,
if you can find it out there somewhere.

BoB1 was a DX8 game. BoB2 is DX9, and in Win8, it crashes
with an error in d3dx9.dll, which obviously is part of DX9.
So, it is perhaps possible that the old DX8 game would run
in Win8, but I have no idea. I'm avoiding win8 because BoB2
won't work under it.

Hi PV1,

Are the .98 & .99 patches original patches or someone's making?

Thanks,
Stefnus

By the way BOB1 DOES work on Windows 8.1

Old games are not free....You still have to pay!

Click on the "Download" link & you'll see!

Stefnuts, the .98 & .99 patches were made by the BDG; the Battle of Britains Developers Group, another band of few who did so much for so many, an unofficial modders group dedicated to assembling and offering the very best of patches for the original BoB.

Download 0.99

Ah, that's most interesting.

Well, it appears you can d/l one file slowly,
for free, and perhaps BoB1 is one file. Or, you
pay to access as many files as you want to get
during the time interval paid for, $9 for a month.

Hi everyone,

I'm getting an "English text stopped working" error.

I initially installed the game & then updated using the 0.99 patch.

Now this error is happening!

Can someone assist me please?

Thanks
Stefnuts

P.S. I have a Win 8.1 pc 64 bits

All and any errors associated with the BoB.exe program
for either BoB1 or BoB2 will be identified by the
phrase "english text" which is an internal identifier
for the program.

I can't remember whether we had diagnostic outputs
(crashlog.txt) written for BoB1 error events.
