Love it when they get busted!!

"A Granbury man who allegedly portrayed himself as a wounded Navy SEAL has been accused of theft and faking his military record.

The Parker County Sheriff's Office on Monday announced the arrest of 29-year-old Carlos Felipe Luna-Gonzalez.

Authorities say Luna-Gonzalez pretended to be an officer, said he served in Africa and had been shot.

A gun shop owner cooperated in the undercover case and on Saturday gave Luna-Gonzalez, who wore a dress uniform and medals, a $2,300 assault rifle. Luna-Gonzalez was arrested after accepting the weapon.

Police sources told FOX4 the responding officers made Luna-Gonzalez take the uniform off after his arrest and was taken to jail wearing only his underwear.

He's charged with theft, tampering with a government document and presenting a fraudulent or fictitious military record.

No publicly listed phone number could immediately be located for Luna-Gonzalez, who's free on $18,500 bond.

Records show Luna-Gonzalez formerly was a Navy seaman apprentice.

"This idiot was fool enough to come to Parker County Texas and try to pull this nonsense?" said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler, who's a U.S. Navy veteran himself.

Luna-Gonzalez even had a crudely-made military ID card. He appears to have cut and pasted a new expiration date on the top of the card, and his rank on the card is a full 9 stations higher than the rank he was as a seaman apprentice.
"

Great!

I'm curious though: is this only an US problem? How many guys in UK claim to be SAS?

I'll admit to watching more than a few Don Shipley videos on YT. Love what he does.

As for the situation in the UK,I have no idea.

Certainly not a problem unique to the US.

During the U.S. Civil War there were several Union officers who PAID for their Congressional MOH medals.

This unfortunate trend has been going on for a long time.

You can always spot the SF Walts on the internet because they broadcast their SF service. The real articles don't.

I've come across UK SF blokes on my travels and if I didn't know beforehand they were SF I wouldn't even have given them a second look. They looked totally unremarkable and a long way from the Hollywood image.

Happens everywhere I think. Here's the list of "Walts" on the ARRSE page. Some doozies:

Son of a b****!!! I walked RIGHT by this guy yesterday, and remember alarm bells going off because his uniform was incomplete, and because the headdress is unique to my old Battalion, and I didn't recognize him.

Most vets I've met in life will only talk about their service when asked. My former boss was an Vietnam Veteran, Navy Seal who told me some stories when I was packing his office up and came across his war photo albums. Those were the war stories that make you grow hair on your chest!

I don't understand folks who lie about their service record or fake being in the service at all. My Aunts neighbor claimed he was Vietnam vet but he's not even old enough......

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

People do it because they want to feel the respect and admiration that is directed towards veterans. That's all there is to it.

Really I get that, I was just raised to be an honest person. Lying is one thing but being a pathological liar is another!

What colour is the boathouse at Hereford?

wink

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Back in the early eighties I was on the area management team of a well-known chain stores group, and Hereford was one of my stores. The company (and also Marks & Spencer next door) had a preferential policy to employ forces wives part time, so I presume there were number in this store. I must of seen there husbands or partners at company social events I suppose, but no-one really stood out from other gentlemen present.
The only time I had a indication that someone might of been SAS was at a Christmas Party when the sad-overweight middle age git running the mobile disco thought it would be a grand idea to entertain us with an unwelcome strip-tease to 'Do ya think I'm Sexy?' by Rod Stewart. On being politely asked to refrain he got a bit lairy and was quickly ejected from the premises with what seemed to be more efficient force than you would expect from an average citizen attending such an event.

It's even more tragic when people pretend to have been management of a retail chain just to invent anecdotes of imaginary DJs being thrown out of Christmas parties.
