Or is it going to be one of those things that we saw in the transition from FC2 to DCS and I'm going to have to re-purchase everything?

Most likely 2.0 will be free
though it remains to be seen if we have to "upgrade" our aircraft to make them work in 2.0

That's actually not confirmed. iirc no pricing has been confirmed. So saying that its free at this point is just a guess. I would imagine that core dcs world will remain free however it may be the case that any modules you have purchased may require a pay upgrade for interaction. Until a formal statement is released, do not assume any of it will be free. We can all remember the black shark 2 debacle.

Just to clear the FUD....... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=129630DCS World 2.0 Coming in 2014
The next iteration of DCS World (formerly 1.3.0) is currently in internal testing and will be available as a free download later in 2014. All DCS modules will be fully compatible with DCS World 2.0. As with DCS World 1.0, 2.0 will also include the FREE TF-51D and Su-25T. New features of DCS World 2.0, but subject to change, include: DirectX 11 support Improved game performance New and improved lighting Improved effects New water animations Improved shadows Unified GUI that eliminates the need for separate GUI and simulation .exe while also speeding up mission load times. Later, this will also allow us to integrate simulation elements into the Encyclopaedia and Mission Editor Ability to access new maps that will be sold as separate modules New grass and clutter New clouds Ability to create dedicated server Skeleton animations Depth of field support Improved Oculus VR support
Some of these features may not be included in the initial DCS World 2 release.

I would imagine that core dcs world will remain free however it may be the case that any modules you have purchased may require a pay upgrade for interaction. Until a formal statement is released, do not assume any of it will be free. We can all remember the black shark 2 debacle. It will be free. Everything that have stated so far points to this. And they would not have released modules just weeks before 2.0 if they were going to discontinue the products. Likewise it would be impossible for some of us to get our products we already paid for if they were to discontinue DCS World 1.0. Examples include FC3 (MIG-29 cockpit + flight model confirmed, won't make it before DCS 2.0) and the various beta modules. Unless you are implying they will continue upgrading modules and releasing updates to both DCS 1.0 and 2.0, which doesn't make any sense. Black Shark 2 was porting the game to DCS World much like FC2 was to FC3. They ran off of older engines and separate installs. The point of World is to prevent this issue from arising again (repaying of modules, separate installs). I agree that Black Shark 2's upgrade was too costly as there were essentially zero changes. It should have been a cheap, or even free, port. FC3 is different as they are providing new flight models, cockpits, sounds, ect.

If you are uninformed don't make a statement as if you are informed. ED have made enough statements about DCS 2.0 that we know it's a free update to DCS world same as all other updates to DCS world so far. I have my beefs with ED same as anyone, but that does not mean it's allright to go ahead and spread missinformation just because I'm bitter about it. Well that right there is one of the most silly posts I have read in a while. I certainly am not aware that this was confirmed as free. I have been following and watching and asking if we have to pay previously. Now that Nate has shown the quote above, I can now know what is happening. I have a life and can't nor will not trawl through every post made be an ED fan, tester nor dev. So if I am uninformed then posting here is a good thing to do. I don't post out of spite, nor do I seek to lead people down the wrong path and I simply stated to only go by an official response. So to insinuate I should not post at all is ridiculous because Nate cleared up for me a very important fact I did not know about. And that certainly was worth posting for

Not everyone's soul is worth the same amount, so I can't believe ED would ever move to a soul-based pricing scheme because they could get really shafted by some deals.

Does it have to be my soul, or will any do? I know some people who probably wouldn't even notice if their's was missing.

The terms and conditions are terrible, and you don't own anything when the lease is up. Unless you like having a new soul every 3 years. Then, I think it is a good idea.

And that certainly was worth posting for I can respect the fact that someone doesn't have time to keep up with all the latest developments and anouncements. But we would disagree on what silly is. To me silly is like I said speaking with autority on a subject you are not informed of. In those cases the unsilly statement would be to say "I don't know". But to each his own I supose.

Experience has shown me that those most willing to trade their souls are often those with the least valuable ones. So anyone who thinks their soul is worth an ED module...is probably NOT worth even a sale copy of BS2 upgrade.

Isn't that what I did? I said best to wait for an official response and until then consider it the worst case which would be payware. Certainly wasn't telling people a definite on anything, so go no idea where this figure of authority malarkey comes from Meh, I have lost 2 souls on explanations so someone can get a free upgrade on my behalf
