If such a module were ever to be made available (and that's a big if)
Would you purchase it.

As most probably know DCS has got the Combined Arms module, its good for what it was designed for.
But as most who have played it know its not a high fidelity armoured simulation Like SB.
Just for the hell of it and with out any endorsement from esim or DCS. I posted this topic in both DCS and SB forums.
To see if there would be support for such a project.
Most are in favour of such a integration but some have expressed concerns about the technical side
Or if its even possible.
I will post links if members would like to contribute to the Discussion.

Well, I'd need to know a few more things before I decided either way:

-Would it be using the current ground environment? It's pretty flat and devoid of life for a ground sim. Wouldn't be that much fun

-Would an enhanced terrain deformation model be included, or would we be driving over green painted concrete?

-How would crew positioning be handled? Would the AI be overhauled and 'smart' enough to handle complex tasks like land navigation?

-Cost? SB is something like $100 isn't it?

Assuming it's a deeply modeled modern battle tank plopped into the current environment (or even EDGE), then no, I probably wouldn't. It would be a fish out of water situation.

Personally, I'd rather see Spin tires terrain deformation mixed with SB. Now simply navigating around your environment can present a challenge. Plus if the idea of going mud-slinging in a front line battle tank doesn't appeal to you, then you have no soul...

I would as long as it wasn't dumbed down to fit into the DCS World.

If the SB devs developed and handled its functioning, yes. The module, AI behaviour and adjustments to make the current terrain suitable for it. Otherwise, nooooooooooooooooo.

Depends on how detailed the terrain mesh would be. At current state in DCS I wouldn't buy but things may change whenever EGDE arrives.

I would 'invest' in a Steal Beasts DCS module that would improved on what Combined Arms has started with. I say 'invest' and mean the same model we have in DCS where we buy into open betas and products arrive a year (or more) later :-)

4) The airspeed you don't have.

I don't think it's ever been mentoined what the terrain mesh resolution will be for NTTR, but from what I can glean from the media ED has released, it seems to be similar to say ArmA2 (as a conservative guess) if not better.

Seems we're in the realms of pure speculation.

I did have one other idea that's a little out side the box..
What if DCS let esim fix /improve CA under some sort of licence agreement or partnership
Whether that Is a feasible concept technically or financially I have no idea

I would buy it if it remodeled the infantry to be like it is in Steel Beasts. As it is now DCS infantry needs an overhaul. With more helicopter modules coming out like the AH-1 I think this will be essential. If it did this I would buy it in a heartbeat. If it was just a high fidelity tank, Im not so sure.

The two new EDGE maps don't even come close to ArmA 2/3 in terms of terrian detail. I am not sure if EDGE can handle it or not, although maps would probably have to be made smaller to see an increase in detail. Armor specific maps would probably come into play. Half the size of a DCS aircraft map, with much more detail. There also needs to be detailed infantry, hopefully with the ability for them to enter buildings.

Personally I am not interested in SB level realism. I wish Combined Arms was more realistic. Perhaps an FC3 level of detail for tanks... but I do want to be able to control the driver and gunner at the same time.
